(Don't make this too weird, goons.) Relationship question: What is the longest time you've gone between meeting someone, and becoming involved with them? (We can kind of leave it open what we consider both what counts as a meeting, and what counts being involved) For me, I had a more than a dozen year gap. Some time ago, I met a girl online (on Livejournal, no less), and we started talking and found out we were originally from the small town, and that her grandfather owned the store we shopped at. And then I remembered seeing her, because she was one of the few non-white people in our small town. I had originally seen her when we were maybe in middle school, and then we ended up meeting and dating in our early to mid 20s. Do other people have stories of meeting people, and then becoming involved with them after a long gap? I think stories like this are kind of cute, although maybe they are weird?

I want goons to answer with beautiful, romantic stories about meeting their true love while studying art in Paris, only to be separated by time, and then to find each other again when their rafts crashed into each other in the Grand Canyon. (but instead I got the above replies)

The longest I've ever gone is about 2 hours because generally if a girl gets to know me as a person before I've gotten into her pants I'm probably not going to get into her pants.

As a young child, if I thought a girl was cute, I asked her to be my girlfriend. As an adolescent, I asked them to the movies. As a young adult, I invited them to a party the coming weekend. This was all within minutes or sometimes hours of meeting them. Literally the only time I ever hesitated was an exceptionally beautiful lady at the Moes by my old place of business. At this point I was looking for a wife, so as to not rush things, I would eat there 2-3 times a week just to flirt with her. After about a year of that she mentioned that she graduated from nursing school and was going to be leaving soon. It was then that I asked for her number, got it, and started to date her. A year later we were married. Two years later (now) she has an ultrasound on wednesday.

I met the girl of my dreams about two weeks after I married my first wife (who I had stupidly married a month after first meeting her). Like a good boy I just thought "Oh well, I guess I missed the boat" and moved along. About five years and one divorce later I was playing a show somewhere in Virginia, and that same girl had just happened to come to see us without knowing that it was my band. She remembered me and we exchanged numbers and began the best relationship of my life. Then three years later she became my second ex-wife, and she remains so to this day. Omelettes and eggs.

My current partner I knew from high school but our circles of friends were kind of tangential. Anyways many years after that I decide out of the blue to contact her on facebook and suggest hanging out because she seemed cool and I guess facebook is a place to bear your soul or something. She said yeah sure and we had a "date" or two where we hang out, go to a museum, watch some movies, nothing happens because at that point I was recently out of a relationship and things were still strange, and I had "ideas" about relationships, and we shared our ideas about relationships. She was cool and I guess she thought I was cool. THat was over the summer, and we continued correspondence via facebook and texting and we really hit it off, and eventually over the fall, she confessed the innermost feelings of her heart to me and I to her. Then uh, over a few breaks from school we got hot and heavy and we've been together since. I guess it's romantic in the sense that we both knew of each other for a long time but never had much interest and then BOOM wow I really like you. Out of a nerdy and lame as gently caress facebook message. "Hi i dont know how to make a facebook message out of the blue seem not weird or lame so I wont try: would you like to hang out at osme point in the future" was the start of our relationship.

When I was nine, our family was friends with a mid-teens girl. We stayed friends and in occasional contact till I was 25, when we fell in love and got married. So, 16 years? She went nuts a year ago and now life is kind of a disaster.

Not saying I am like super smooth, but when a girl is attracted, it seems to be a simmering thing.

Met a girl I thought was super attractive sophomore year of undergrad. We chatted and kept in touch over the years casually until one day we were both grousing about being single and how hard it was to meet people in med school/grad school and I asked if she'd like to fly down and bang a bunch for valentine's day weekend. She did, much fun was had, and we parted ways afterwards with a "hey if you are are eve single again, call me". It was about 7 years between "hi" and "balls deep"? Happily for both of us, each of our next relationships ended up in marriage, so it seemed that we did a good job busting each others slump.
