Here's a nice visual of the Belgian EL groups

If the clubs consistently play at their top level they should honestly all go through. However, they won't, and so I reckon Anderlecht & Genk are the only ones to go through. (Gent might if Braga are as poo poo as they were when we had them, Standard are hosed)

Well no one is going home happy in this case, except Jankovic and his agents for their chance at getting Rouche paychecks.

I'm secretly hoping Club tap Ferrera up, he's worked alongside Preud'homme before. In any case, any club that doesn't try to tap him up is incredibly stupid.

e: also lmao at Jankovic going "I've had the privilege of working in a real positive atmosphere for two years" when headed to what's probably the most toxic atmosphere in Belgium football atm

me when The Club do another win

Seeing as there's Eurofoot next week and there's definitely not any embarrassing losses to discuss today, it's time to see who exactly these group stage teams are:

Scrub Club Brugge are the only team in the CL group stages this year, coming out in Group G

Other teams in this group are:

Leicester CIty Football Club aka The Foxes (the Foxes) aka the Blues aka City

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They were champions in England last year? That can't be right. But it is. They've won the League Cup three times as well

Trainer: Claudio Ranieri (ITA)
Main league rivals: Nottingham Forest, Derby County
You've maybe heard of: Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater
Players with a Belgian past: Marcin Wasilewski (Anderlecht 2007-2013)
Have we met?: No, this is only Leicester's 4th foray into Eurofoot. They never had to play Club in the previous three.
Founded: 1884 (as Leicester Fosse FC)

As champions of England, Leicester got a direct ticket to the group stages.

Futebol Clube do Porto aka Dragões (Dragons) aka Azuis e brancos (Blue-and-whites)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

The second most decorated team in Portugal if you count total amount of trophies, Porto are one of the (in)famous Portuguese Big Three that have been wrecking the Primeira Liga since forever. They've got 74 trophies among which a Joan Gamper trophy (whatever that is)

Trainer: Nuno Espirito Santo (POR)
Main league rivals: Benfica, Sporting Clube de Portugal
You've maybe heard of: Iker Casillas, Hector Herrera
Players with a Belgian past: Laurent Depoitre (various clubs; most recent Gent 2014-2016)
Have we met?: Yes, once, back when Salazar was still in charge Porto beat Club 5-3 on aggregate in the 1972 UEFA Cup
Founded: 1893

Porto beat Roma to qualify for the group stages

Football Club København aka Byens Hold (The Team of the City) aka Løverne (The Lions) aka "Byens Drenge" (The Boys of the City)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

In 24 years Copenhagen have managed to become the most succesful club in Denmark, with 11 league wins, 7 cup wins and 1 league cup win.

Trainer: Stale Solbakken (NOR)
Main league rivals: Brondby
You've maybe heard of: William Kvist, Andreas Cornelius
Players with a Belgian past: Tom Hogli (Club 2011-2014)
Have we met?: This will be the fourth time Club and Copenhagen face off against eachother. Copenhagen won the first encounter in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup Group Stages and the second encounter in the qualifiers for the 2012-13 Champions League. In the group stages of the 2014-2015 Europa League Club were finally able to get the upper hand.
Founded: 1992 (as a fusion of Kjobenhavns Boldklub and Boldklubben 1903)

COpenhagen had to beat the Northern Irish Crusaders, the Romanian Astra Giurgiu and the Cypriots of APOEL to qualify for the group stages

There's four Belgian teams in the Europa League! Wowzers

Anderlecht are the top seed in Group C. Let's see who they're up against:

Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne Loire aka Les Verts (The Greens) aka Sainté ASSE

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won a whole lot of poo poo but sadly this was before football was born. Since then they've won the League Cup once.

Trainer: Christophe Galtier (FRA)
Main league rivals: Lyon
You've maybe heard of: Loïc Perrin, Jérémy Clément
Players with a Belgian past: Il n'y a aucun.
Have we met?: Non
Founded: 1919

Pour se qualifier, l'ASSE a battu AEK Athene et Beitar Jerusalem

1. Fußball- und Sport-Verein Mainz 05 e.V. aka Die Nullfünfer (the O-Fives) aka Karnevalsverein (Carnival club)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Absolutely gently caress all!

Trainer: Martin Schmidt (SUI)
Main league rivals: Eintracht Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern
You've maybe heard of: Jhon Cordoba, Levin Oztunali
Players with a Belgian past: No one here
Have we met?: No, Mainz have done less in Europe than Leicester
Founded: 1905

Mainz had an automatic ticket to the Europa League group stages as cup winner Bayern qualified for the Champions League and Mainz were the highest placed team on the table without already having a European ticket

Qəbələ İdman Klubu aka Dağ canavarı (The Mountain Wolf)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Absolutely gently caress all! Then again they're literally younger than everyone on this forum, except Pissflaps

Trainer: Roman Hryhorchuk (UKR)
Main league rivals: Being legal
You've maybe heard of: lol
Players with a Belgian past: None
Have we met?: No
Founded: 2005

Gabala beat Georgians Samtredia, the Hungarians of MTK, they beat Lille!!! and the Slovenian Maribor

Time for Group F and Genk!

Athletic Club aka Los Leones / Lehoiak (The Lions) aka Rojiblancos / Zuri-gorriak (Red-Whites)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

Their only trophy since football started was the 2015 Spanish Supercup

Trainer: Ernesto Valverde (ESP)
Main league rivals: Real Sociedad, Spanish one-nation nationalism
You've maybe heard of: Raul Garcia, Beñat
Players with a Belgian past: Belgians aren't Basque
Have we met?: No
Founded: 1898

Qualified automatically as 5th placed team in Spain

Sportklub Rapid Wien aka Die Grün-Weißen (The Green-Whites) aka Hütteldorfer

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won the Austrian title 32 times, so they're like Anderlecht in Austria really. They won the Intertoto Cup a few times too.

Trainer: Mike Büskens (GER)
Main league rivals: Austria Wien
You've maybe heard of: Steffen Hofmann, Arnór Ingvi Traustason
Players with a Belgian past: no
Have we met?: Genk and Rapid met in the 2012-13 Europa League group stages, which had two matches ending in draws.
Founded: 1899

Rapid Wien qualified by beating a Belarussian Torpedo and the Slovakian Trencin

Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio Srl aka I Neroverdi (The Black and Greens)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won a trophy called Tim.

Trainer: Eusebio Di Francesco (ITA)
Main league rivals: Relegation
You've maybe heard of: Alessandro Matri, Paolo Cannavaro
Players with a Belgian past: no
Have we met?: No, this is Sassuolo's very first European campaign
Founded: 1922

They beat the Swiss Luzern and the Serbs of Red Star Belgrade to qualify.

Group G means Standard de Liège!

Amsterdamsche Football Club Ajax aka de Godenzonen (Sons of the Gods) aka de Joden (the Jews) aka I Lancieri (The Lancers) aka Lucky Ajax

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won all the titles in the Netherlands and are a bit like the Anderlecht or the Rapid of Amsterdam

Trainer: Peter Bosz (NED)
Main league rivals: PSV, Feyenoord
You've maybe heard of: Tim Krul, Lasse Schöne
Players with a Belgian past: Nee geen enkele
Have we met?: Surprisingly enough no! Standard and Ajax have never met in international club competition.
Founded: 1900

Ajax were picked up from the losers in the Champions League qualifiers to qualify for the Europa League.

Real Club Celta de Vigo, S.A.D. aka Os Célticos (The Celts/Celtics) aka Os Celestes (The Sky Blues) aka O Celtiña (The Little Celta)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They 'won' an Intertoto Cup

Trainer: Eduardo Berizzo (ARG)
Main league rivals: Super Depor
You've maybe heard of: Giuseppe Rossi, Iago Aspas
Players with a Belgian past: Theo Bongonda (Waregem 2013-2015)
Have we met?: Celta beat the poo poo out of Standard in the 2006-07 UEFA Cup
Founded: 1923

Celta qualified automatically for the EL group stage as both Sevilla and Barcelona qualified for the CL.

Παναθηναϊκός Αθλητικός Όμιλος aka To Trifylli (the Trifolium) aka Oi Prasinoi (the Greens)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won a lot of poo poo in Greece, so there's that.

Trainer: Andrea Stramaccioni (ITA)
Main league rivals: Olympiacos
You've maybe heard of: Paul-Jose M'poku, Christopher Samba
Players with a Belgian past: Paul-Jose M'poku (Standard 2011-2015); Nuno Reis (Cercle 2010-2012; 2014)
Have we met?: This will be the third time Panathinaikos will meet Standard, Standard won both previous face-offs.
Founded: 1908

Panathinaikos beat two Scandinavian teams, the Swedish AIK and the Danish Brondby to qualify for the EL

But wait, there's more! Gent in Group H

Football Club Shakhtar aka Hirnyky (The Miners) aka Kroty (The Moles)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They won the very last UEFA Cup and are the second biggest club of Ukraine.

Trainer: Paulo Fonseca (POR)
Main league rivals: Dynamo Kyiv
You've maybe heard of: Darijo Srna, Eduardo da Silva
Players with a Belgian past: Nyet
Have we met?: No
Founded: 1936

Shakthar got brought in the competition as loser in the CL qualifiers and beat some Turks to qualify proper.

Sporting Clube de Braga aka Os Arcebispos (The Archbishops) aka Os Arsenalistas (The Arsenal fans) aka Os Minhotos (Those from Minho) aka Os Guerreiros do Minho (The Minho Warriors)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

They are the current cup holder in Portugal!

Trainer: José Peseiro (POR)
Main league rivals: Vitoria de Guimaraes
You've maybe heard of: Alan, Andre Pinto
Players with a Belgian past: No
Have we met?: No
Founded: 1921

Atiker Konyaspor Kulübü aka Anadolu Kartalı (Anatolian Eagle) aka Yeşil Beyaz (The Green & Whites)

What did these scrubs accomplish?

gently caress all!

Trainer: Aykut Kocaman (TUR)
Main league rivals: They fused with their rival so this is moot.
You've maybe heard of: Barry Douglas, Alban Meha
Players with a Belgian past: Deni Milosevic (Standard 2013-2015; Waasland 2015-2016)
Have we met?: No
Founded: 1922

Qualified directly as cup winner Galatasaray was forbidden entry.

Your new Westerlo manager for the four weeks before he's sacked is Jacky Mathijssen.

As it is certain some low-league idiot is getting sacked I've decided to help these clubs out by just making this wheel with the usual suspects: no need for manager scouts now

It's pretty obvious that Waasland-Beveren only fired Henkinet because they have an abundance of keepers at the moment. I'm sure that if Köteles didn't join them, Henkinet would only be suspended and ordered to pay a fine by the club or w/e.
But I'm curious what will happen to Deschacht. His defense is pretty stupid (why wouldn't his brother open his own betting account??) and betting on a loss for Anderlecht... Yeah, that might be the end of his career. Even though I think there's no-one in the world that bet on an Anderlecht win against PSG :)
