Seven years ago, Twitter began its rise to prominence by billing itself as a space where people could speak freely because nobody was censored. The company's rules enshrined this ideal, promising "we do not actively monitor and will not censor user content, except in limited circumstances." But in 2015 all of that changed.

...

In March(2015), the company banned revenge porn. In April(2015), they banned any speech that could incite terrorism, or violence against people "on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, or disability."

Twitter's blue tick is used by some to weed out tweets from trolls and abusive accounts. However, it's not always a successful tactic as Twitter’s decision to ban Breibart tech editor Milo Yiannopoulos shows. Up until January, Yiannopoulos’ account @nero was verified. Twitter stripped him of his blue tick status following consistent trolling. On Tuesday, it altogether barred him after Ghostbusters' actor Leslie Jones complained of harassment on the site.

December 2015
Outspoken Azealia Banks' Twitter account has been suspended following her hate-filled attack on singer Zayn Malik on Wednesday.

The rapper took aim at the former One Direction star after he appeared to respond to her comments about the similarities between his new video and her Yung Rapunzel promo.
Her angry rant featured ill-advised racist jibes about Zayn's Asian roots.

She then turned on teenage Disney star Skai Jackson when the 14-year-old urged her to chill out following her attack on Zayn.
A war of words continued throughout Wednesday, with Banks offering up inappropriate, sex-themed tweets and unprovoked attacks on Jackson's mum. The tweets were later deleted.

Banks was subsequently removed from a headlining set at London's Born & Bred Festival after organisers stated they would not tolerate her language, and now it looks like the rapper's Twitter account has been suspended.
The rapper found an alternative way of briefly tweeting fans on Thursday, writing: "So @twitter suspended me? I'll be back you can't keep a black K**T down".

from reddit posted:

Banks started a twitter rant by suggesting Zayn Malik's new video was influenced by her work. Banks then went on to call Zayn a "curry scented bitch" and went on to say "Imma start calling you punjab you dirty bitch". She then went on further, calling him a "human being".
People then started defending Zayn, labeling Banks as "disgusting". A lot of people then were asking to have her account removed after her racist and homophobic comments. Banks also began an argument with 14 year old Disney star Skai Jackson. Skai told Banks to “simmer down” and “go find a career”. Banks retaliated by calling her a “little black bitch”.

Ya know sometimes when people say someone is a bigot, it's because they're a bigot

I'm sure thats true, but more often its probably because two people look at a situation, and one says, "I think this series of events is about 'A' and thats the relevant issue." and the other one says, "This is all because of 'B' and thats what we should think of it."

Every issue is multi-layered, and some people get so caught up in the one layer that they can't even fathom that other people would see anything else.

I remember it said that it was Piaget that did the experiment where he asked children to draw what the vase looked like from their friend's perspective on the other side of the table, and it wasn't until a certain age that they were able to do it.

Australian ABC? Is that the same as our ABC? posted:

Not only has the council come down on him but Lushsux’s Instagram account was also temporarily deleted for a few days after he posted the image.

Due the timing - it was deleted as Clinton was officially nominated at the Democratic National Convention - Lushsux is suspicious.

“Maybe they’re trying to get rid of accounts that make jokes and parody what she does. That’s my conspiracy theory.”

He reckons the pearl-clutching attitude towards the Clinton swimsuit piece is a double standard, arguing it’s no worse than a raunchy deodorant ad or anything else on Instagram.
