The pawsting business is tough work.
I've wanted to play in a game of this for over a decade, when I first stumbled onto the boggling mess that was 2e. Here's hoping!

Character: My favorite character I've played actually happened here, when I ran Sharon, the lab-grown pop star, in Ettin's Nyarthalotech game. She was a massively irresponsible idiot, which was pretty fun in and of itself, but I think all the characters in that game excelled because at some level we were all trying to outdo each other with ridiculousness. Pushing for that kind of over the top behavior is probably the key to any good roleplaying experience, especially when you have to fight against the distant nature of PbP games.

Final Fantasy: I've played all the mainline FF games except 11, and a goodly number of the spinoffs, including stuff like Explorers and Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon. FFIX and FFT:A are my favorites in the series, mostly down to the characters and aesthetics over the gameplay, and if selected I plan to steal liberally from both for character fodder and portraits.
