I was running in track mode which uses the stiff suspension setting, turns traction control off, and sets the ESC to sport. Not sure how to turn it completely off or if I should do that yet.

Yeah however much speed it might gain you I don't think "turn em off" is the best idea in a car this capable after one autocross meet.

That looks so stinking fun. I'm gonna work on finding something like that near Charlotte NC.

Having never owned a Ford until recently, I'm really impressed with the brand.

E: Heading to the track and racing thread for some more info on this junk.

Yeah all the club sites in the southeast seem to be the same kinda crappy. At least there's a schedule. Might be trying this next month!

Holy poo poo what a great car. Spending the day at Monticello with Ford and oh boy is it a lot of fun.

Getting pulled over on the drive up here in one was less good.

A review and video will be going up on Ars in the next few weeks.

Apologies if I keep killing this thread, but Matt Farah's latest piece on his RS is an interesting read: http://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/4843/the-ford-focus-rs-is-the-worlds-finest-hot-hatch

His complaint is also one of the main reasons I've not been trying to persuade the wife that we should buy one; I work at home, she takes public transport to work, and there's often an interesting press car available if a fun drive is in order. An RS would sit outside getting covered in bird poo poo and road grime and maybe get get driven once a week, which doesn't really seem worth taking on a car payment to do. And if I bought one it would have to be Nitrous Blue which stands out like a sore thumb to the cops as I found out to my detriment.

Still, you are a lucky man, KidDynamite.

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around what he expected by buying a nearly turn-key race car and using it as a commuter in a major metro area.

is the whole idea of a hot hatch to be a practical, decent car for daily duties but also a good car for the track?

it sounds like Hes upset that its both of those things and he only has time to experience the former.

Historically, hot hatches (at least in the UK) were basically souped up versions of boring cars because throwing more power at something that weighs as much as a bean tin leads to hilarious results. It's a 'normal' car with more power, he's whining about traffic and that the car doesn't feel special enough to sit in traffic in. It's a great car but he doesn't feel cool sat in it not getting attention from people...

Maybe don't live in the middle of LA if you expect to drive anything anywhere at any speed? He mentions driving at an average 12mph? Dude should be riding a moped.

Was Farrah honestly surprised? I've daily driven sports cars for years in Houston and always have the identical experience. Unless you wake up early as gently caress and get the hell out of the city, you could accomplish everything with a 125cc flyscooter in this city. It's why I love my lovely automatic impreza, I'm going just as fast on average as the dude in the Ferarri LaFerrari in traffic.

Everything Farah says is like "um, yeah what did you think was going to happen?"

Thinking about signing up for Auto-X school on the 24th 180(non-member since it's late in the season to sign up and actually get savings) bucks and you get 20 runs with an instructor... bit steep imo. Track day at NJMP is 175. I think more experience before the track day is necessary though.

They'll probably have a novice group at the track day where you have an instructor ride along with you, if that helps.

The RS looks awesome. This and the fist, and the new mustang are the first fast fords to excite me since the Escort Cosworth. Although I always had a soft spot for the old Focus ST170, especially in super rare estate form.

He actually has one to ride around LA, and I think the focus was for when the moped wasn't practical. He said on the podcast he is replacing the RS with a diesel Jag F-Pace (the SUV one) for the same lease payment, which makes sense in the context of why he was selling the RS.

I would wait for the tire rack starting line weekend thing tbh. $180 for 20 runs is lol. Our autocrosses are around 5-6 runs for $40 usually and you can let people ride along for instruction.

what is your problem with him? Im not defending the guy but I find his one takes of peoples cars interesting, if a little heavy on internet memes at times (like that kids RX7 he reviewed that one time)

If he bought the focus with the expectation that it would change LA from a gridlocked shithole to a never ending canyon run, then yeah hes an idiot. Seems like he thought the ride would be a little softer and the car not as performance based as it is (though no concessions made for buying a stick shift and then complaining about it in traffic - you know what you're getting yourself into with that)

Check engine light came on, took it to the dealer, it's misfiring but not badly or on the same cylinder, had to leave the car at the dealership until they can contact Ford on Monday, and now I'm home with a Focus sedan loaner feeling sad. :negative:

Are you running 93 in your car? With the Mustangs depending on tune, bad gas or too hot of plugs can cause misfires. Pretty much everyone runs 1 step colder plugs regardless.

I've been running 93 from the same gas station(quickchek) the entire time I've had the car. I'll look into plugs when I get the car back. Should only need these correct?

Just received a call from the dealership saying that the car threw a code for an aftermarket tune... car is bone loving stock. I told them that no there's no tune on it and asked for the case number since they said they had opened a case with Ford, when I did I was given an excuse and told I'll be called back in 10 minutes with the number. I contacted Ford through their Ford Service page on Facebook I'm not dealing with this bullshit.

I have my concerns logged with a Ford customer service manager so I think I should be ok. Especially since they said a code told them it was a tune (P164C which is Internal control module start/stop performance) and now I know that you can tell if a car is tuned by the flash count and not a code. They still have no diagnosis and no timeline for when I should get my car back.

Driving the Focus SE is depressing and I miss a manual gearbox after only a few months.

Phone was going to work on that this weekend but I think it's not looking likely. First thing I noticed was the hands.

That really sucks man. Hyundai has been pretty bad with veloster turbo people. Voiding warranties for oil catch can or intake type thing. If they can only detect reflash could you not buy a second ecu and flash your existing firmware onto that to tune with? That is what people in the hyundai area do. Might see if it can go to another dealer with it.

Man that is some BS. Don't sell the ST models and try to void warranties or rip people off. I think this is all dealer related not corporate Ford.
