More X-Men should have dumb names, since they choose that themselves. I liked Hellion naming himself after the team to suck up. We need more Negasonic Teenage Warheads.

It did lead to a kind of clever moment in a stupidly funny way where alternate universe Prof. X had people on stand by to slaughter the rest of her living family if she ever needed a power boost on the fly.

Should have gone with "Armoire" imo, because she has a metaphorical closet of ancestor-energies that can dress her up in fancy psychic power clothes.

Something like Vic Alvarez's history-channeling thing but it gives you like cool psychic clothes over your normal outfit and you get the skills of whoever you're channeling. Like you get a psyhcic labcoat if you're summoning Marie Curie or something.

I mentioned to my uncle last week that I had started to look into comics again, and he said that I should come pick up his old stuff. Cue me going over to his place tonight and picking up seven long boxes and a stack of TPBs. The only cost was a promise not to sell the books, and not to return them. I'm still going through everything (the comics were 4 to a bag mostly and not boarded), but early indications are that this is going to knock out most of my collecting for the foreseeable future. And certainly my reading. I've boarded just over 450 books: Suicide squad, Doom Patrol, the Giffin 1987 JLE / JLI / JLA runs, Hellblazer from about 25 to whenever Ennis stopped, and a bunch of assorted Moore and Morrison stuff, and there are four more long boxes that are pretty jammed still to go. There are also roughly 100 trade paperbacks, mostly focused on Vertigo stuff. The cool thing is that he mostly collected DC and Vertigo from the late 80s / early 90s. I don't care about sale value, just what it would have cost me to acquire it, and with no DC unlimited I haven't read most of this stuff. There will end up being both a cost and a time commitment to bag and board everything and store it in new and cleaner long boxes, but it still beats the hell out of buying the comics even on the resale market. I'm pretty stoked about this.

WickedHate posted:I didn't get Jubes until someone pointed it out to me, but Armor is just ridiculous. Ancestor powered anime robots? And she has a storyline where she dishonors her family or whatever and they fight a giant monster? Ugh. Sunfire is the most balls out extreme, having an entire Japanese flag costume(beat that Katana!) and having powers because his mom was pregnant with him at Hiroshima. Katana is a funny character. On paper she should be one dimensional and awful. But while her power set isn't anything amazing there is a decent character there which even the Suicide Squad movie taped into. (Ideally she should be a housewive who turned herself into a living weapon against crime to get vengeance on the people who killed her family. Basically Batman who is even closer to the edge of the Abyss.) And while her costume is a bit nationalistic (or stereotypical depending on your point of view.) it does let her stand out. That being said, I did crack up at the comment made by Japanese/America Porn Star Asa Akira when she played Katana in the porn parody of Suicide Squad. https://twitter.com/AsaAkira/status/755549484772319232

Just looking up what you could watch instead, there's a new Mel Gibson action movie I hadn't heard of that's at 93%. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/blood_father/ I'd see that. e: I'd see Sausage Party too. If I was in America I'd make a weekend with those and Hell or High Water and Pete's Dragon. I mean, fair point, but currently it's reviewing really, really well, like we're talkin' 86% fresh on RT after 70 reviews counted. 88% if you just count Top Critics. Dunno, still split but it's hard to argue against reviews that solid.

I think there's plenty of material to mine in the movie's gimmick in general, but I wouldn't go without some reassurance from trusted reviewers (see: similar tastes) that the premise doesn't wear paper-thin after the first few minutes. The whole "I'm a DICK" "and I'm a VAGINA" schtick was old to me by the end of the trailer.
