ten years ago we had Steve Jobs, Bob Hope, and Johnny Cash. now The Learning Channel shows amish drug addicts and obese six year old bastards.

is there a female version of the word "bastard"? i feel like there ought to be.

Probably not, because the title bastard was to distinguish male offspring of a male heir in such a way as to disqualify them from succession

I've been reading about Bloody Mary and while Anne Boleyn was queen Mary was referred to as a bastard, just like Henry Fitzroy Again, removing her from the succession and placing Elizabeth in her place 1500s England was hosed up lmao

Historically, illegitimate daughters weren't nearly as significant as illegitimate sons simply because daughters couldn't inherit anyhow. "Bastard" was used to signify a son who couldn't inherit because he wasn't born out of his father's marriage, even though he was his father's son. Being illegitimate markedly affected his life. Illegitimate daughters could still be married off, or sent to a convent, or employed as a servant, etc. Other than not being as marriageable, being illegitimate didn't greatly affect their fate. Thus, there was no particular designation for an illegitimate daughter.
