Whatever. Someone else downvoted my good thread, so I'm bumping this.

Possible questions you can ask:

* Are you on medication?
* What medications are you on?
* How long have you been on medication/how does it make you feel?
* What mental illnesses do you have?
* What is it like having x mental illness.
* Tell us more about your stupid dragon thoughts
* Tell us more about your stupid magick thoughts
* What are your thoughts on [dragon/magick] thing?
* Have you produced anything substantial which we could make fun of?
* What is the stupidest thing you have done during an episode?

Again, not my fault this thread is boring currently.

In modern fiction? They're gigantic Mary-Sues, generally arbitrarily given a mixture of human and animal (usually cat) properties, or else made into Gods.

the only dragons that anyone normal has seen lately are the ones in "how to train your dragon", the dragons from game of thrones and maybe Smaug from the hobbit

the how to train your dragon ones are pokemons, the GoT ones don't do hardly anything and Smaug is a huge greedy shitpiece who gets taken out behind the woodshed by some nobody with a bow and arrow

aside from those examples dragons don't rate outside groups of internet weirdos and furry conventions.

But it greatly displeased Jonah and he became angry. He prayed to the LORD and said, “Please LORD, was not this what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore in order to forestall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity. “Therefore now, O LORD, please take my life from me, for death is better to me than life.” The LORD said, “Do you have good reason to be angry?”
Then Jonah went out from the city and sat east of it. There he made a shelter for himself and sat under it in the shade until he could see what would happen in the city. So the LORD God appointed a plant and it grew up over Jonah to be a shade over his head to deliver him from his discomfort. And Jonah was extremely happy about the plant. But God appointed a worm when dawn came the next day and it attacked the plant and it withered. When the sun came up God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he became faint and begged with all his soul to die, saying, “Death is better to me than life.”

Then God said to Jonah, “Do you have good reason to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “I have good reason to be angry, even to death.” Then the LORD said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. “Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?”

I don't think that argument was implicit in my response. The question was "How come dragons are so stupid and lame?" There's nothing in the question or answer about public perception, just about dragons, which consequently must be weighted equally in every media appearance. Since dragons appear disproportionately often in fantasy novels, roleplaying games, and so forth, my answer is appropriate. It applies to the broad character of dragons in media, rather than the specific character of popular dragons in media.

when i was a kid i played dungeons and dragons and there was always lots of dragon related art in the books but dragons were either way underpowered or way over powered and in the end it was much more fun fighting orcs and stuff than trying to work a good dragon into the game

also wizards only got 1d4 hit points and couldn't really use weapons but gandalf used a loving sword so that that made no sense and kinda nerved the whole wizard thing

thats my 2 cents

Also if your characters are strong enough to take down a powerful dragon they shouldn't even be adventuring on the prime material plane anymore, they should be off turning the tide of the blood war or becoming factols in sigil.

Dragons have special meaning to me. But explaining it is complicated, so I'll just summarize as stupidly as possible by enumerating different interpretations of them.

1. Dragons are "abberations of nature". Dragons are creatures set outside the universal, monstrosities that come from nature but are somehow unnatural. This garners my empathy.

2. Dragons are satanic symbols. Satan is commonly held to have given Adam and Eve knowledge of good and evil, and in many counterculture interpretations thus a life affirming entity.

3. Dragons are powerful, aesthetically beautiful (in modern incarnations), and in general have a great many desirable attributes.

4. Dragons in eastern culture are inscrutable forces of nature that can be either good or evil, but are generally good. They are great and powerful because they have incredible depths of character.

5. Dragons featured heavily in a series of dreams I had that I turned into a (lousy) story. Prior to this I had no obsession with dragons.

6. An entity (or psychological abberation if you like) who speaks to me on occasion has the form of a red dragon. She has been immensely helpful and loving, though often in a drill sergeant sort of way.

There is more, infinitely more, so that I continue to fill a journal with my reflections on this and other subjects, but none of it would mean anything to you anyway, so I have given you the facile and easy version.

No, and that man seems deeply troubled (Also please quote this for ironic effect on my Encyclopedia Dramatica page if I ever become famous)

All exercise breaks down muscle to some extent, though cardio does it a little bit more. However, the muscle subsequently builds back up following the exercise, so it's overall a stupid myth. It's more like there's no such thing as a free gain.

It's pragmatic. Especially during episodes. I don't want to hurt anyone (even though I think about it constantly), and least of all total strangers who are doing a valid job. But let's say I have a couple anecdotes.

Sane: I once accidentally broke a gate in a hotel during an attack of social anxiety, fleeing a crowd, and a cop chased after me. He yelled at me to stop. I kept walking. He kept yelling, so I finally, stopped, and turned around with such conviction in my movement that he kept a few paces away from me. On my hip beneath my clothing was a gun. He said "You broke that gate. That's vandalism." I said "No." He said "You're a criminal. You're coming with me." I repeated, "No. I'm not going anywhere." He said "I'm a police officer." I said, "I don't care." He glanced at me nervously, with a mixture of worry and exasperation on his face, and said "Would you at least come talk to the hotel manager about it?" Which I did. And then nothing happened, as I was homeless at the time, and attested to as much, and they took pity on me after I explained myself in tears.

Insane: I attempted a magical ritual in a private room on the college campus during finals. It required cutting myself, and I was bleeding all over everything when someone discovered me and called the cops. I had locked the door to the room, but emergency room workers were banging on the door. I quickly ended the ritual by the correct measures, removed my mask, placed my knife and athame out of reach, extinguished the candles and incense, and went and opened the door, knowing that they would otherwise tear it down. I complied with every instruction, to the point that it was even thought off-putting somehow.

I don't think an authority figure has any special claim to righteousness, but I do recognize that they exist in a certain role, and that can't be wished away. The truth is, I am a much worse person while sane than while insane. All of my spirituality, all of my sense of meaning; of something higher that I can cling to when all else is taken away from me; it comes from my madness. As a consequence, I have clung to my madness even through dire consequences, doing things that appear insane out of the desire to be insane rather than actual insanity. It is hard to explain. I also gain a certain credulity and suggestibility when I am insane which makes me more manageable.

But anyway, I don't hate or disrespect cops, despite having run ins with a few bad apples, but on a bad day, armed with a sense of righteousness, a cop is just a really aggressive person to me.

Thanks. The long and short of it is that I'll respond to an unjust threat of lethal force with lethal force, but otherwise won't escalate out of moral principle and common sense. The one exception might be if I'm trying to get them to kill me, which could happen if I was especially unfond of my life right then and facing something completely unacceptable. And I realize all of this is unhealthy, but I think having a good handle on my dispositions and airing things out are helpful, even if they upset people. People say "just change your attitude" or whatever, but it's hard to do for more than a few hours at a time with all the environmental and inner pressure to return to my original ways of thinking. So I'd rather just draw a line that I know I can live within and focus my efforts on doing so.
