Im a special snowflake
It's a David Lynch movie, you're not supposed to be able to fully follow what's happening

Pros:

- Fat guy that can fly
- Sting in a thong
- Kyle MacLachlan
- Patrick Stewart
- Patrick Stewart yelling "ATOMICS!!!"
- Brad Dourif. Love this creepy motherfucker
- Dean Stockwell
- The floating needle device
- All the whispering
- Being able to quote "Fear is the mind killer" to get a chuckle
- Big worms
- Creepy aliens

Cons:

- It's a movie so it's long

The story is incredibly dumb and disjointed, feeling like some sperg's nanowrimo story complete with gary stu chosen one protagonist and numerous characters who don't feel like people at all but exist to explain the narrative and directly state their supposed feelings in an emotionless tone (depicted lazily through an abundance of inner dialog). But the costumes and sets are cool as gently caress. so its an accurate adaption of dune in that it is lovely l.ron hubbard tier pulp scifi but with splashes of stuff that is cool by virtue of being a weird thing you don't see in other examples of the genre.

Once you realize it's just a medieval story in space it's not that weird.

Also you should watch the full television mini series after Lynch's movie because then you can enjoy the same story told no better but this time through the garish design and lenses of that era that made everything look like cut scenes from a Westwood game.

If you watch it and don't know anything about Dune it's like watching an alien's attempt to emulate a movie.

It's good.

- Brad Dourif. Love this creepy motherfucker

By the time I started seeing this guy pop up in other poo poo, like when he was on Deadwood and then I went and watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I had forgotten that he had appeared on-screen as Charles Lee Ray in Child's Play. So I looked up his imdb page and I was like "What? This fucker is the voice of Chucky?!" Then I went back and rewatched Child's Play and sure enough there he was, creeping around looking like Tommy Wiseau.

trust me, I'm a cat.

It's a good in a bombastic b-movie kind of way, if you don't know the book you won't like it one bit tho

the series is also good, I watched it for the first time 3 yrs ago and it was strangely nostalgic. bad cgi, lot of talking and simple, Dr. Whoish settings and decor

David Lynch rules and this is the best possible Dune movie. It's weird and fun.

Definitely DO NOT watch the extended cut. That version is directed by Alan Smithee for a very good reason.

The setpeices alone make it worthwhile, OP. Also being a cult classic, every line is a meme so it's got that going for it. In terms of storyline and acting it's kind of meh.
