Eh, you can work around that a bit with city planning and district settings, given the biggest offenders are the trucks going from and to the industrial districts. Height is another underutilized tool. Still, I think the emphasis on traffic is this game's biggest problem.

IIRC, you either import goods (general industry) or make them (specialized), then they go to commercial, where folks buy them. It's good to keep this in mind when you're planning your city - putting a residential district between industrial and commercial won't be fun. Another problem is that some buildings require imported goods to function - the coal power plant, for example, will need a constant supply of trucks.
