I remember mentioning this in the last Shovel Knight LP, but I'm very sure that The Troupple King is a shout-out to Link's Awakening.

Specifically two NPCs from that game: Manbo the Sunfish, who is a fish with a lengthy dance sequence and Crazy Tracey, who grants you healing potions whenever you visit her. Coincidentally, Manbo teaches you a song that allows you to warp to Tracey's house.

I read somewhere that there's a walking NPC that very rarely shows up in the armor outpost who has Shovel Knight's body but the head of a fish. I've never seen him though.

I've only backed 2 things on Kickstarter, Yooka-Laylee and Bloodstained, and it was well after Shovel Knight was released and became successful (but before the severe issues plagued Mighty No.9).

I doubt I'll back anything else for a while though.
