Dude, you are a good human. I'm really happy to hear that there is the capacity for genuine charity for the weak inside your average goon.

Op I once helped an injured stray cat and I paid $2600 to get him help and I didn't really have that kind of spare money but like you I did it without hesitation and it was the best thing I ever did and I don't regret it one bit. A friend of mine ended up adopting him and he's a healthy 9 years old now. Anyway good job op, you're a good person. Animals need people like you to intervene so they can survive sometimes. Edit: you should find the pitbull owners and tell them to pay for half the bill. They might tell you to go gently caress yourself but depending on local laws they might legally have to. For real though I am taking my vet tech licensure exam in a couple of months after I finish my internship and it is the hardest thing in the world to watch an animal die an avoidable brutal death because nobody cares enough to take care of it - even just to bring it into the clinic and drop it off. I wish there were more people like you in the world op. You're a good guy and should feel good.

Good job OP. What happened to the pits though? Did they just run off? And I wonder what the owner thinks when they come home covered in blood. Does he just shrug and say "welp, looks like my dogs had a fun day!!"

Hopefully the dog makes it through ok, he looks pretty chill. This story actually reminds me of one of those murder shows I saw once where some guy let his dogs kill some lady. Also it is one of the reasons I don't give my dogs those toys that look like other animals.. I actually think you should file some kind of report that the guys dogs did that though, especially if you have any other evidence it was those dogs. This all just makes me want to take my dogs out for a special day today since one has surgery scheduled this week.

An update: Little dude is patched up. They also shaved off his dreads so they could make sure there weren't more injuries. He's high as a kite on pain medication and still won't eat or drink but we're thinking he's going to be OK. He's got meds, stitches, etc., so I'm pretty stoked. Here's a pic post haircut: https://imgur.com/a/oAgzS He's really nice and friendly considering everything.

Good on you, OP. You might want to check with the local shelters and charities to see if they can help out on costs since it isn't your dog. They might also be able to help you find the owner if it isn't a stray or abandoned pet.

My grandpa had dogs like that, they're fuzzy old people dogs and generally pretty nice and good. So good for you for taking care of him. I'd call the police and report the pit bulls and their owner. Tell the cops he's your dog and not a stray. Edit: if he's friendly, he probably belonged to someone and either got lost or got dumped at some point.

nooneofconsequence posted:drat emergency vets aren't cheap. I also don't think they operate in such a way where if you bring in a sick or injured animal that you don't own, will immediately saddle you with a bill for the entirety of the bill. What kind of business model would that be? "Hey I found this injured dog can you help?" "Yea but if you don't want to accept full financial responsibility we'll let it die."
