The Blue Jays are in trouble, after the bullpen barfed a fart in two of the last three. They're now effectively even with Detroit, except Detroit is playing Atlanta while Toronto is playing Boston.

Detroit-Cleveland is unnecessary, so Michael Fulmer finishes short of the innings threshhold, which means that Aaron Sanchez is your 2016 AL ERA champion.

Toronto generally has a lot of built up frustration. From sports, from political culture, whatever. Sports becomes an outlet for that. I like the general idea of the fans being rowdy, but that should probably not extended to braining Baltimore's left fielder. gently caress turning that guy in to the police, though. Nobody deserves the TPS.

Douglas Cardinal has filed a claim to the Ontario supreme court and human rights tribunal asking for an injunction against both Cleveland's team name and the Chief Wahoo logo. The claim is that name and logo are slurs, and so should be banned from use in Ontario. It is very unlikely that he'll win his claim (which is being heard Monday), but if he did, what would MLB do? Do Cleveland have kits that use neither "Indians" nor Wahoo? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/architect-douglas-cardinal-files-human-rights-complaint-against-use-of-cleveland-s-name-logo-1.3806662

Jays losing like a team having its lack of lineup depth exposed. It's disappointing to see them go out like this, but you can only go into the ALCS batting Ezequiel Carrera leadoff and expect so much. Really sucks, though, that this is against the lovely slur team.

The Berzerker posted:I will miss basically all of the Jays who are UFAs since I assume the office isn't going to pay to keep any of them. I think that they will likely get outbid for Encarnacion, but also that it is conceivable that Bautista is back on a reasonable contract that sticks him at DH. This would rely on Bautista being seen as a mix of old and sort of toxic to other teams.

LonesomeCrowdedWest posted:I think Bautista can put up a few more decent seasons if he stays healthy but yeah gotta be as a DH. His play in right is only getting worse. I would much rather have Edwin back though Edwin is better and younger at this point, and certain Boston teams have giant honking holes at DH and lots of money to slosh around, which is why I think he likely gets a bigger contract elsewhere. I would probably actively not want Bautista back if the plan was to play him in right field. He's actively very bad there, now, and that is even before considering that he has to DH to not get injured. Other than the DH/RF holes, if they want to contend they also have to do something about left field and first base. Carrera/Upton/Smoak are not tolerable as a LF/1B combination.

So everybody talking about curses this year, but nobody talking about the Blue Jays Blessing. The Jays have now lost in the ALCS (and playoffs generally, I guess) five times. The previous four times, the team defeating them has gone on to win the World Series. KC '85 Oakland '89 Minnesota '91 KC '15 Good news for Cleveland, although maybe being a slur team negates that.

bad boy in the boy band posted:With 3 young kids at home I haven't had much time to follow any other team except for the Cubs. How good is Cleveland? What is the thing Cubs fans should be most afraid of on their team? Their lineup is very deep and even. They have no great peaks, but also no great valleys. Their pitching has been very good, but seems like it could fall apart at any second. Against Toronto they started Kluber twice, Tomlin once, and then basically had two bullpen days. Kluber is Kluber, but Tomlin pitching out of his mind seems like the sort of thing that could reasonably stop at any moment. Their bullpen has been excellent throughout, with emphasis on two innings of Andrew Miller every time they have the lead.
