I keep having to remind myself that this show does the exact opposite of all the other boring romance shows I've grown apathetic towards. It's so good.

It's probably just me, but I get the feeling he cares a lot more about being her friend first (which is probably most of what you're talking about), and is just along with these others because they're ridiculously easy to mess with to hilarious results.
