I just really don't think it occupy's the same real estate in people's mind that Jordan's shot does. This is not me saying "nothing incredible" ever happened, it's just that nothing will ever be as iconic in the media and our minds as the Jordan shot. It's what I imagine most people reflexively think about when they hear the words clutch gene. It is omnipresent. Every other legendary play requires some kind of prompting, it's not the platonic ideal of the game itself.

KD played well last night and he's really good on defense and I wish he was on my team even if I don't like him very much
He gets out of position a lot and then has to use his length to recover. The Spurs abused him with two bigs last night and perfectly exposed a lot of his weaknesses.

David Lee loving grabbed a jump ball rebound over him which should never happen. So that matters if you're in the rebounding = defense crowd (last night was a pretty good case for that).

He is generally pretty good though and there's few teams that will put him in the annoying positions that the Spurs did. If he has to keep guarding centers/pfs off the bench, though, this could become more of an issue.

I'm more interested right now in seeing what Kerr does with his rotations. Putting Ian Clark in that early in the game was not a recipe for success
Leander Barbosa was a ridiculously good fit for them. McCaw looks like he'll be more useful than Clark.

David West is not a good fit for this team and probably not that good in general.

Pachulia was in mid-season form (not the first half where he pretends to be good)

Javale might actually be their best traditional big from a fit standpoint but he got baptized last night and will almost certainly get injured.

I always hate the "contested Rebound" stat. Durant has rebounded well his entire career. If you think it's complete luck that he has always gotten around 7-8 boards a game from the 3 position, I am not sure what to say but at some point I think you have to admit he is good at getting in position and not needing to contest his boards.
You get a lot of rebounds as a forward by playing 35 min a game and being tall. I dont think Griffin is particularly good on the dboards. The underlying rebounding statistics are very useful in telling who actually wins rebounds which becomes considerably more important if you're a poor rebounding/small team

This is a weird way to spin it.

I recorded these statistics last season and it's pretty clear that there's a good correlation between being qualitatively good at rebounding and pulling down contested rebounds. It's not like the best guys get less contested boards. The stats and the eye test match up pretty darn well.

All of the other good guys grab a lot. Giannis and MKG were the best SFs last season. Rudy Gay and LeBron shortly after. The best SG was PJ Tucker by a mile.

So I guess what is your explanation as to why he consistently rebounds near the top of his position? Luck, there are rebounds other players don't care about? I can see pointing to those stats over a short amount of time to say someone is just having the ball bounce his way, but at some point it stops becoming luck.
I'm on mobile so this is going to be a bad example, but is Russell Westbrook better at rebounding than Blake Griffin? They grab roughly the same number per game, but Griffin grabs two times as many contested boards. Rebounds are not all created equal. Empty rebounding for stars has been a thing forever.

I mean I think Adams and Ibaka's numbers really suffered last season because they were doing a lot of the dirty work for RWB and Durant to grab the ball and start the break (which makes sense) but I didn't watch enough Thunder to know if that's accurate.
