 I cannot run this at all in windows 7, Followed the instructions in the OP but when i try to run it it loads for a few seconds then nothing. windowed mode doesn't do anything.

EDIT: Bizarrely, taking off the compatibility option let it run.

I had the same problem, don't use compatibility settings on Win7.
