Oh no, am I going to get suckered into playing this 16 year old game again? I've been trying to resist it but I had too much fun the last few times. Hopefully I'll get sick of the low level slog and burn out and not waste the next month or so playing again...

That sounds strange, what level are you? The lowest level unique jewel requires at least item level 45, so if your character is not at least level 45 you probably can't roll any unique jewels.

The last time I tried I couldn't, but I didn't experiment exhaustively. OS is open socket, you can't get six sockets without the jeweler's affix, so you have to get it in a drop or shopbotted. Can only runeword non-magical items, so you're just sticking jewels in these.
