I don't think my painting skills would be up to snuff with all these resin figures, I need a cheaper entry level set of tit-minis.

I think the point of the first Kickstarter was to start using plastic and afaik they mostly are now. Malifaux is a slightly cheaper starting point for practicing your boob shading.

Yeah I think I'd be super down if this were more in the spirit with Monster Hunter and the tone was Scrappy instead of Bleak but yeah, there's so much gross stuff in there with the things I like. It's not even like you can excise those elements from the game since it's so pervasive.

Are the other games beside this and Sentinels that use a card deck for enemy behavior?

The rules aren't really overly complex.

There are a lot of components but nearly everything in kdm boils down to 'roll a d10, add your modifier, and try to beat a target number. The stuff that doesn't follow that mold is roll percentiles and get hosed by the random event, match colored squares together, write down rules off of this card, or roll 2d10 and pick what you want.

Kdm doesn't have even a fraction of the complexity of even a pretty simple rpg like pathfinder. It just has a lot of charts.
Most actions eventually boil down to roll a d10, but you're looking at like 30 different game phases, a bunch of different decks of cards, and having to constantly cross reference stuff in the book.

Some of the models are ruined, RUINED by just random poo poo hanging there. This is one of them as the arms hanging by the belly do absolutely nothing for me but act as a distraction.

Also, for the people who say the pinups don't add anything to the game, you know the only way to get certain cards and items is to buy the pinups.

A lot of the busier models look better once they're painted and your brain isn't struggling to figure out those bits and can just tell at a glance they're human arms/hands.

I dunno a game where your best weapon can randomly break every 100 steps would be kinda horseshit. A system can encourage you to diversify and hedge your bets without being random and unfair. Games with weapon degredation usually have it occur at a steady rate so you can plan around that and adapt, not just having poo poo randomly snap it in two.

It's no more character, than these 3 wood I lost to a monopoly card from Settlers of Catan.

Treating survivors as a fungible commodity is incredibly at odds with a game that prides itself on the detail of its models, gives you alternates with visible progression and gear upgrades, and expects you to lovingly paint every one.

If you could get a 50-75 dollar version of the game with just cardboard tokens instead of models I'm sure we would see a lot more people modifying the game into something better.

Representing survivors with cardboard tokens would also be more thematically appropriate :D

I backed the KD for some add-on figures. KD is a cool game archetype and now that it's the biggest game Kickstarter, I hope the wave of copycats yield a game with less frustrating mechanics and less creepy flavor.

Yeah. I'd love a Glorantha-based clan managing game, a Forgotten Realms village simulator or something like that.

Or any world by Fantasy Flight Games that uses their sweet app-based dungeon mastering.

Adapting something like Fighting Fantasy/Lone Wolf into a tabletop game of this type would be great.

Just re listened to a podcast on King of Dragon pass and giving players agency within those events and still randomize a little in those outcomes would be great.

Afaik King of Dragon pass is the only Glorantha pc game. Also the Elder Scrolls (Morrowind aside) makes Greyhawk look compelling.

I think it's important to note that if a group is going to get this game, they are going to really need to get into it. It seems like so much of the damage mitigation of bad rolls requires encyclopedic knowledge of the game requiring you to either research ahead of time or fail so many times you figure out the solution. It definitely requires the time and effort investment of an RPG campaing, sans DM, rather than a modern board game you can just pull off the shelf when someone comes over.

Seriously though, all the pearl-clutching from goatse central is a little much. Does nudity have to have nuance in a game? Does horror have to be tasteful? And if so, how much? What level?

Most of the actual nudity is contained to the rulebook depicting starting survivors, and is where most of the edge-lordiness comes in. Optional creatures like the tentacle demon are about 5% of the entire game, from what I've experienced so far, which has mostly been slaughtering/being slaughtered by monster lions and dudes that love lanterns a bit too much. You can get about the same eyeful on a casual scroll through of xvideos -> anime. If you already own Warhams elves, this poo poo is like one step higher in lasciviousness. Like someone else said, the style is pretty much a Heavy Metal cover.

While I don't like most of the 2d art, the vast majority of the minis are unique as hell, and I appreciate the commitment to the weird theme of hands/lanterns/masks everywhere.

The RNG-fuckyouness of the game is either lovely/amusing on how you like to play your games (to completion of a win condition or as a way to kill an evening regardless of outcome), and probably the biggest detriment to the game.

(was catching up on the thread in a background tab)

Why can't you admit pornographic pinups and dick monsters are the public face of this game?

Most of the expansions and lots of the non pin-up figures have breasts out models experiencing varying levels of sexual menace, and lots of dick flopping monsters. The core rulebook is basically pornographic.

The game is mechanically bad and full of problematic pornography. Why are you defending like it's something normal people would ever want to engage with at an LGS?

mango sentinel

That's why I used the term problematic and not immoral. Liking tentacle rape doesn't make someone a bad person. Refusing to critically examine that kink, calling people prudes when they do, and then insisting it's appropriate for general consumption makes someone a bad person.

There are a couple of scantily clad men currently extant and two more male pinups coming with exposed rear end as some peek at base+shaft. To their credit they are trying to branch into a broader spectrum of pervert.
