He made that loving terrible Robocop reboot but he did some good movies in Brazil before!

Bus 174 - His first movie, this is a documentary about the infamous Bus 174 hostage situation, where a former homeless child held several people hostage at gunpoint and was later killed by police. This movie gives most people a good look at the brutal treatment that the poor of Brazil endure by society and most of all by the violent police forces.

Tropa De Elite - His breakout film, this action movie shows the reality of Brazil's special police squad, the BOPE, by the points of view of two recruits who endure hellish training and must adapt to the squad's harsh ethos and conditions and their hard yet incorruptible commander. An excellent movie with unforgettable lines and music.

Tropa De Elite 2 - This movie was kind of a reaction by Padilha to the unfortunate acceptance by Brazilian society of Captain Nascimento's brutality and willingness to torture suspects, and has Nascimento team up with a Human Rights attorney to expose and defeat a militia made of corrupt cops and the crooked politicians behind them. I found it an inferior sequel but worth watching anyway.
