The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the 16th game in the Zelda series, barring the infamous CD-i titles and other spin-offs. Released in 2011, game was a celebration of the series' 25th anniversary, and holds a special place at the very first game in the official Zelda timeline. Whether it lived up to such an important landmark is up for debate, but the importance the game has to the lore can't be denied. Long, long before Hyrule, the humans lived on floating islands above the clouds. Link, with his best friend Zelda, enjoy a peaceful life in Skyloft, the main sky island of the game. Alas, dark forces are at work, and soon enough Link finds himself on a journey to save his best friend and the world. With less-than-reliable motion controls and a sidekick that never shuts the Hell up, Link has quite the journey ahead of him.

Why this game?

The Legend of Zelda is a series I hold close to my heart, one of the first video game franchises I was introduced to along with the likes of Mario and Sonic, to a lesser extent. So, why not start with a franchise I love so much? Why Skyward Sword specifically is that I plan on doing virtually the entire franchise barring one or two games (mainly the Four Swords games). But really, I just want to have fun, and enjoy the aspect of talking over a game that I somewhat enjoy. Granted, this isn't my favorite Zelda title. Far from it, as it's probably my least favorite game I've played in the franchise. That being said, I manage to get some enjoyment out of it, if only to maybe laugh at some of the stuff I find ridiculous.

About the LP:

This LP is non-live. I've already recorded the entire playthrough, from start to finish. All I have to do now is add my commentary to it, and I've actually gotten about halfway through with that. I was going to wait until I had the whole thing done and release the episodes periodically over a month or so, but I got antsy and decided to start a thread for it now. One important thing I should mention is that I didn't 100% the game, and had no intentions to. In my opinion, it's not worth it. You get nothing special at the end for doing so, so why bother, right? That being said, I do manage to get almost every Heart Piece in the game, and do go out of my way to get every last Goddess Cube/Chest and Gratitude Crystal. It had been roughly five years since I last played the game before I started to record gameplay several weeks ago. So, in a way, it's a half-blind LP. I didn't remember every single plot point, and even forgot a twist or two as I played along, so I found myself almost experiencing a lot of material for the first time. I try to go for a semi-serious commentary, where I forgo explaining game mechanics to poking fun at the game, which I find reasonable considering how much the game tends to, arguably, over-explain things.

As a warning, since it came up in the Sandcastle thread, I WILL be talking during cutscenes, just so people know if that kind of thing bothers them.

Schedule:

No particular schedule in mind, really. No specific days of the week for uploading. I do want to have at least two or three videos uploaded a day, but that might always be the case.

Spoilers?:

Any spoilers are fine here.

Eighteen videos in six days? Jesus, dude, the game's not going anywhere.

TheLoneStar

I dunno, is it really that bad? I'm mainly dumping these first thirty so fast because they're already recorded and have commentary. After video thirty things will slow down a bit, probably.

Eh, it's better to pace out, since a) backlogs are your friend and b) you scare off potential viewers because all of a sudden they've got to watch hours of your LP instead of a throwaway 20 minutes every week. Plus it kills the thread because there's nothing to really focus in on and talk about.

e: your style of focusing on the video and offering commentary doesn't quite work, maybe snag a co-commentator or talk more about the dungeon or game as a whole or how you're doing instead of a blow-by-blow commentary, especially since it's post-commentary and the reactions come across as forced. It's charming in a live commentary but just sort of hollow post-commentary. Honestly I would recommend popping this over to the sandcastle: you're not bad but you're very clearly new at this and are making a lot of rookie mistakes, this feels more like a first draft than a final product.

I did post the first few videos in the Sandcastle and still got a pass, so I thought it'd be okay to keep going, that's all. Should I still pop over there again?

From the amount of replies this thread has gotten so far, I think you can safely assume nobody is really watching your videos. I mean, there aren't many viewers who want to keep up with a pace like that. Which would also be the reason why you aren't getting much feedback, which is useful if you want to improve.

I'm honestly incredibly surprised that the mods haven't jumped in yet to give some friendly advice, because this thread is so close to an (against-the-rules) youtube dump.

---

You know, while I'm here, let me type some more words.

I haven't watched your LP except for some quick skipping through it in the sandcastle to say that at first glimpse it doesn't look terrible. The reason I haven't watched it is twofold:
- I do not want (and often don't have time) to watch three Skyward Sword videos a day.
- There have already been several Skyward Sword letsplays on this forum. I'm not gonna watch another one unless it has something special going for it (a letsplayer or group of letsplayers I really enjoy listening to, a glitch showoff such as Doctor Kill did for Ocarina of Time, etc).

I'd much rather spend my time on watching LPs of hidden gems that nobody has letsplayed before.

I'm also not one for jumping into an LP halfway. So let's be honest here, even if you use this feedback to improve a lot, I'm sorry, but even then I'm not going to invest time in this Zelda LP.

However, as I indicated in the Sandcastle, I do think you have potential, so if you start another LP, take it slowly, and ask the thread for feedback so you can hone your skills, and well, it's a game I like to watch, there's a good chance I will jump in.

I don't think this thread breaks the rules, though I do think this approach is not a very good idea, for reasons already elaborated upon.

I will say, however;

This is not a very helpful observation to make. Discouraging people from doing games just because they've already been done is basically the opposite of what we want. There are issues with this LP, I agree, but the choice of game is not one of them.

I dunno if I want to quit an LP just because it's not doing too well. I already spent my time beating the game and working on editing and the like. I may as well see it through.

Personally, I found my schedule gave more than enough time for any kind of conversation to start. I mean at this point it's probably too late, but I might as well switch it up so I update every other day, or is that too fast too?
