Bifauxnen posted:previously on peraMYST: .---- ...-- ..... -... Verus had chosen the riskiest of 3 options, trying to get both himself and Daniels out of there alive. He’d avoided the pressure plate trap, but once he unchained Daniels, the bomb began counting down. Verus chucked the bomb back down the hallway, hoping it would be far enough. But it was just as likely that they’d both end up dead. Luckily, they survived. Verus had done it. He’d saved Captain Daniels and lived to tell the tale. Daniels himself wasn’t exactly too thrilled with that outcome… but Corn declared Verus a hero of both Myst and Sa. Seeing this “lowlife” risk himself to save Daniels made Corn feel suddenly ashamed. He’d arrogantly assumed all along that he was more noble than the others on the expedition, that he was the natural leader. But instead, Chell had claimed that title after leading them safely through Channelwood, and now Verus had completely shown him up with his courage. He no longer felt he deserved the title of “The Honourable” Corn Crowell. But he could brood more about it later – for now, they had to get back to Myst. Turns out there had been a linking book in Daniels’ room all along. He’d just lied about it so they wouldn’t blow themselves up. Daniels was unconscious and would need time to recover. The new workshop seemed like a safe place for him to rest, and Corn stood guard over him. Now that Stoneship was scouted out, the Carter sisters got to take another quick whirlwind tour of an Age before zooming right back to Myst. They spotted a source of Nickel and got to work trying to figure out a new alloy. Too bad they still didn’t have that delivery of spare Channelwood armor, though. Schelene came back totally empty-handed! What was her problem! Was she just too busy murdering Kemet? Yes. Literally everybody figured she must’ve killed Kemet and literally nobody even cared. If anything they were relieved, and it woulda been self-defense, right? He was some creepy cult guy taking advantage of her faith, right? It was okay, she could just come out with it and everyone would understand, right? But it sure was a mystery. Schelene had no idea what had happened to Kemet! With Kemet dead though, Schelene had to make a deep personal choice. Was she going to still try and follow The Way? Would she step up to fill the void left by him and Sara Friedricks, and become its new prophet? Or would she finally turn her back on The Way, abandon everything she thought she knew, and give up the pacifist preaching? …yeah, she could do that.

Previously on peraMYST: IT COMES Selenitic and Stoneship had both been explored, but how were things going in Rime? As soon as Chell and Harsha landed, they found a Myst linking book just lying right out in the open. It smelled like an obvious trap, so they didn’t try using it yet. But they grabbed it and brought it inside since it was loving cold out there. Once inside, they looked through the rooms of Atrus and sons, and found that Achenar had a worrying interest in Sa astrology. There was also a new journal in Atrus’ room about an Age called Everdunes. It was the biggest journal yet, so it must be pretty important. Chell found a cryptic clue in the journal, about separating three dates with “00” in between… but what could those dates be? As soon as Chell mentioned it in their channel, the Carter sisters were freaking out. They knew all too well what those three dates were, cause they’d been banging their heads on the dimensional imager for days now trying to get it to work. Putting “00” between them so it didn’t screw up the sequence was the last bit they needed. Finally, all the reading and deductions and trial and error had paid off, and they were rewarded with… No, THE Everdunes book. Like, the ORIGINAL one. This thing was freaking huge. Not that they were about to test it out yet. Annie was keeping it under lock and key. Everyone was still scattered around, and they needed to regroup before moving on to such an ominous-sounding place. They could craft up some more armor too, to keep people safe. With the nickel from Stoneship and titanium from Selenitic, they’d made a new alloy called Invar, and now they were making some truly amazing equipment. Schelene went off to Channelwood again to maybe finally bring some more of that armor back, but Annie wasn’t gonna wait up. They could just make some new steel armor to upgrade instead. It took a bit longer to start from scratch, but once it got all these new alloys on it, it’d be even better than the Channelwood stuff! Meanwhile, Chell and Harsha still had plenty do to in Rime. They found another Myst book, so the expedition finally had another spare copy. And after a ton of puzzling, they finally brought the towers into alignment. This activated a device that Atrus’ journals had tantalizingly hinted about – a remote viewer to look into other Ages. The puzzle didn’t seem totally solved yet – a note suggested it needed more crystals in different colors? And they didn’t really know how to use it. But once it turned on, they saw some kind of pre-recorded message from Atrus. The message said that while Atrus couldn’t respond in real time, the answers they gave would be transmitted through to him. Something smelled fishy. Was Atrus really on the other end of this thing? Chell mentioned wanting to bring Sirrus and Achenar “to justice”, and shortly afterwards everyone’s best mate Charles reported that Sirrus was taunting him on the communication device using those exact words. Charles also said Sirrus was laughing about him running out of time. But why hadn’t anyone found Charles yet?! Especially if he wasn’t really Atrus, at least then it woulda made sense for him to hide away until some endgame plotpoint?! HEY LOOK, CHELL AND HARSHA FOUND THE LAST RED AND BLUE PAGES TOO, LET’S GO CHECK OUT THE HAVEN AND SPIRE BOOKS, AND WHAT ABOUT THAT EVERDUNES HEY Bifauxnen fucked around with this message at 08:34 on Nov 2, 2017 |

Previously on peraMyst: HEY LOOK ANOTHER DISTRACTION Soon, everyone was gathered back in Myst again… except Schelene, who was on her second run over to Channelwood. She was totally going to go get that armor now! Seriously! Turns out she was telling the truth this time, but first she had some second thoughts about leaving that mess behind. Everyone else wondered what all they should do with the rest of their day. They did want to get all armored up before trying out any of these new books. Maybe they could help out in the workshop? Under the sisters’ direction, everyone else pitching in gave them a lot of extra output capacity. Lea taught people what to do while Annie worked out the overall production queue, and Harsha beatboxed to improve morale. Schelene belatedly showed up in the middle of everything with the Channelwood armor, which was mostly ignored. While everyone was busy with their work, Captain Daniels finally regained consciousness. He saw all the surviving members of the Second Expedition united and working together… and wondered why one face in particular wasn’t there. Just who was in command here? He obviously wasn’t getting answers anytime soon, so Verus helped him back to the library where he could write his report in peace. At least, until Annie showed up. She obnoxiously paced around the library, muttering to herself about some last material she needed. She’d organised everything to upgrade as far as they could go, and Lea had things running smoothly enough that she could leave her to finish things up. But this wasn’t the best they could do. Annie knew that her dream armor design was still out there, and after working with these new alloys, she was starting to see how it could all come together. The last type of material that would fit to make the final alloy… from what she’d read in the journals, they were most likely to find it in Spire. But whoah, there was Daniels, who was looking annoyed and- wait, what had he been saying in the workshop before he headed out? He’d been hard to hear in there but it had sounded kind of like Anastasia Johnson?! Ohhhhh poo poo. The next morning, The Second Expedition was pretty drat buffed up and ready to take on anything. But before they split up again to explore all the new books, they wanted to hear what the long-lost Captain Daniels had to say. He sounded like kind of an rear end in a top hat, actually. But the guy had loving been through a lot, hey? Getting tortured and then finding out practically everyone he cared about was already dead, maybe they should cut him some slack. But after telling off pretty much everyone, especially Verus and Corn for keeping him alive, Daniels made the mistake of making a crack about Chell’s mom. Daniels suddenly became more agreeable. He answered as many questions as he could about the first expedition, and deduced that Agent Anastasia Johnson must have been compromised. Other than that though, he had no special insights about who was behind everything, and couldn’t do much else to help in his traumatised condition. Corn escorted Daniels back to Stoneship, to help him search for Zulea’s body. So what next? Harsha reminded Chell that she had the last red and blue pages now, they could put those in the books to complete them… But she had to finish reading the big Everdunes journal first. And also double check some other journals first. And then catch up on all the latest chitchat first. Then look back at her communicator’s channel history first…

I think I may have said it in a confessional (I don't know, I haven't read them so I can't remember my own) that it was absolutely a conscious choice to keep the pages as a power move. As soon as I saw that we didn't get any information from partially complete Spire/Haven books there was no way I was giving up the leverage I had.

Previously on peraMYST – The United Expedition It was time to get back to exploring. Corn was helping Daniels in Stoneship, but the others had 3 new books to choose from now and only 1 spare Myst book to link back with. People started putting their hands up to go scout ahead alone, while the rest of the team held onto the Myst book back at home base. Chell went to Everdunes. She was especially interested in that Age after reading that huge journal about it. But even though she hadn’t taken a linking book with her, she somehow showed up back in Myst fairly quickly. She just had one thing to say: “DON’T GO TO EVERDUNES.” Harsha went to Haven. It was a dangerous jungle full of savage beasts, but Harsha miraculously managed to kill one. She should have been slaughtered facing that kind of thing alone, but maybe she had some mysterious plot armor? Anyway, the monster’s bones made fantastic weapons, rivalling even the very best work ever done by the Carters. As for Spire… that was where Annie suspected they could find the last material they needed. But Lea said she wanted to go. Annie was nervous, and would be staying put on Myst yet again, but didn’t argue. Usually Lea always said she’d just go along with whatever Annie’s plan was, or she’d sit there looking uncomfortable whenever she disagreed. If Lea really wanted to go do this by herself, she had to be pretty drat determined. Spire was full of an interesting crystalline material. Lea set up the harvester for it, and named this material “Spireglass.” It was indeed the last piece of the puzzle to create the ultimate alloy, which she named “Carterium.” But while Annie had always had her heart set on creating the ultimate armor, Lea was curious about the other possible applications of Carterium. It had some unusual properties that could maybe interact with the communicators. Lea wondered if it was worth going back to Selenitic, to get a more proper look at that device. She’d have no problem getting back, since there were a whopping three linking books in Spire: One going to Selenitic, one going to Rime, and another going to M̢̲̼̞͈̫̫̯͚̫͉̕͜͟e̷̸̳̻̮͎͉̘̮̞͎̠̥̫͖̩͖͈̝͔̦̕͞͞c̶̡̤͓̰̖͙͔̫͕͇̺̻͇͎̝̼̳̕͢ḩ̴̨̺͖ͅa̸̧̹͖͖̰̥̝̦̤̯̯̳͓͎̫͡ͅn̤̟͇̪̳̰̲̻̖̜͘͞ì̶̶̛͉͕͉̤̥̲͓̦̘̩̰̀ć̩̣̟͔͇͖̫̞́͢ͅa̸̙̱̙͔̦͜͟͠l͏̥̝̳̬̥̞̰̤̭͈̩̤̫́ͅ.̸̝͙̼̹̖̜̞̖͎̠͎͔̝̀ Okay, make that two linking books. Lea chucked the Mechanical book out into the void, since it was now useless. She took the spare Selenitic book with her, and linked out to Rime. Now that she’d gathered some Spireglass crystals in different colours, she should be able to finish the last puzzle in there that Chell and Harsha couldn’t solve before. Lea tried talking to the dodgy Atrus recording to let him know she came in peace, but it still couldn’t talk back to her. So she moved on to the crystal puzzle. With the correct crystals in place, Lea got a remote view of an Age she didn’t recognize. A secret compartment opened to give her a new linking book, to… D’ni? It was probably best to check in now before continuing the solo adventure. Bifauxnen fucked around with this message at 08:37 on Nov 2, 2017 |
