reddit is a terrible website both because of it's fundamental design and the people that have over time populated its wretched halls. you can argue that some subreddits are okay but that doesn't matter, the entire voting system is designed to give much greater weight to popular opinions and silence unpopular opinions. which is okay in theory but there is no central moderation and individual communities are entirely at the whim of self-appointed moderators. it has bred a culture of voting everything up for any reason at all and voting things down you disagree with. it is a gurantee the top rated comment in a thread will never be correct, or funny, ever. like some sort of hosed up mold that has been sitting in the back of your fridge over the years the community that has evolved in it's tightly sealed vaccuum is almost entirely made out of people that are too fragile to leave its protective shell, willingly forgoeing the knowledge that there is more to the world than the small tupperware container they are contained in because they are too concerned about what other people might think it is a website that is almost perfectly designed to amplify echo chambers to a level that if measured in decibels would likely be fatal. its so good at it i have to wonder if it was specifically designed in that manner
