good idea for a thread op im diggin whats been posted so far except that track of merrys rly needs the bradification so it wont raise my blood pressure lol eliane radigue is a french composer who worked with boulez and schaeffer before falling in love with the arp 2500, a really amazing modular synthesizer that you patch without any cables! she makes really meditative drone music -- after playing synthesizer for about a decade she got into tibetan buddhism, which drastically changed her music up by adding sounds reminiscent of meditation bells occasionally in a few pieces. she has remarked on how little meditation changed her, as it felt like what she was working towards her whole life, which is a sentiment id be lying if i said i didnt relate to her trilogie de la mort trilogy of death i find quite soothing, this is the first piece, kyema https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_ShWnkv2lo

Sham bam bamina! posted:this reminds me of wendy carlos's masterpiece sonic seasonings, which apparently is not on youtube (not that youtube's audio quality would have remotely done it justice) hahahahhaahhahahahahahahahhahahahhahahaah yeah wendy carlos is v unchill about youtube her longtime partner (wife now? idk) is a letter happy lawyer other folks synthesizer performances of bach pieces have been taken down over nonsense dmca notices where this lawyer is claming on carlos' behalf that her copyrights are being infringed, as if she copywrote toccata and fugue in d minor or trademarked the circuitboard of a model d somebody did a really silly ode to joy cover with a basic synopsis of carlos life as one of the very first synthesists and i think it gets taken down to just for mentioning her name its a real shame too cuz the best bass i have ever heard in my life is cranking up switched-on bach -- not only the technical achievement of the multitracking but just her patching is mind-boggling esp considering it was the first synth album ever byob historian fucked around with this message at 02:49 on May 29, 2017

Sham bam bamina! posted:your idea of a "middle ground" between the past and the present is artificial. it's a completely arbitrary distinction unless you're talking about music made the exact instant you're thinking about it (i.e. unless you're a jazz performer). everything today will be 50 years old five decades from now, everything already made once had yet to exist. i think of music older than my parents as old and then i miss my copy of my favorite things this performance was after they were born though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-CjA4jJpOY coltrane is from nc |
