Wait so the main story just ended and the game is now a bunch of side stories about all the warlords, right?

So we went through the entire main story with our protagonists pokemon only evolving right before the very end of the story and his sidekick literally having a jigglypuff the entire freaking story?

This game is STINGY with evolution.

No no you see, that was the tutorial campaign, now we need to complete all the side stories before we unlock the final campaign.

There are 33 side stories.

I will be showing off the scenarios that are required for something, all of the Wifi exclusive stories, as well as show off all the different kinds of scenarios there are, but in order to get to the final scenario after that I'll be skipping around a lot and you guys will be voting on which ones I don't completely skip over, as well as a couple optional ones that don't do anything for us.

Nah. That'd mean they have variation.

They only have a few painful mechanics, repeated several times so they become even more tedious than they already were normally.

Just a gee-whiz, but Nobunaga's Rayquaza got a wi-fi give away (in japan...) for BW1 and a promotional card.
Oddly his Zekrom got nothing and neither did the Arceus, but I guess they wanted the shiny to take center stage

Part 10: Hanbei and Kanbei

Main Theme

Heyyyyyy... welcome back to Pokemon Conquest... I guessssss. My lack of motivation should tell you how the game's gonna be from now on. We've beaten the main story, so this is technically the postgame, but it's a bit different to the usual postgames we're used to.

If you're familiar with Samurai Warriors and the like, then you know that a good chunk of the game consists of different scenarios from all the playable characters of the game. And it's exactly the same here. EVERY SINGLE WARLORD in this game has a "unique" scenario from their perspective and if you want to play as the main character again, we'll have to go through quite a few of these. Let's start with Hideyoshi's story so we can see what it consists of.

While not every story has a unique win condition, there is a bit of variety depending on the Warlord featured. We'll be going into all these later, but Hideyoshi's story is a good starting point, as is Ieyasu's.

Episode Opening

Known for the constant battles that raged across its 17 kingdoms. In the kingdom of Ignis, situated in the corner of this land...

But it's only some people--Warriors--that can communicate with Pokemon. Don't you think it'd be great if everyone could make friends with Pokemon? What a happy world that would be! It's the kind of world I've always dreamed of! It's the kind of world I've always dreamed of!

Yeah... I'll show ya! And they also say that the one who captures all 17 castles gets to see this Pokemon, right?

You're not...

Yeah! I am! I'm gonna summon the legendary Pokemon, and together we're gonna change this world!

Ransei

...and just like that, we have our goal for the entire scenario. So yeah, after 9 pretty lengthy updates, we conquered the entirety of Ransei after a bit of a struggle and an alright story. Now the game is wanting us to do the same AGAIN. 12 stories expect us to do this and it's pretty rough. But at the same time, how long will it be until we conquer Ransei again in this story? End of next update. So let's see what's new in the postgame.[/i]

All 17 kingdoms are available from the outset and ruled by their main Warlord we met during the story. Everyone takes their turn in a random order each month, with our turn also in a random place, so a fair few of the kingdoms will take their turn before us, though right now they're not doing much. Their turns also go by so quickly it's difficult to get a good screenshot, so ignore anything that looks weird.

Alright, let's see who we're starting with.

Hideyoshi is basically the same as when we first encountered him in Ignis and we've talked about him enough that there's nothing much to really go over!

It's his companions that we're interested in. Hanbei and Kanbei are the only postgame Warlords, so that means we've met all 37 of them! Takenaka Shigeharu was a samurai and strategist under Hideyoshi. While originally serving the Saitō clan, he plotted an uprising and took over the clan's castle at Mount Inaba and then directed the defense against the forces of Nobunaga during the Siege of Inabayama Castle. Hideyoshi was so impressed by him that he invited Hanbei to join his forces. He had a son, Takenaka Shigekado, who would later fight for Ieyasu at the Battle of Sekigahara and secure his family's holdings in Bodaisan. Hanbei died of illness while Hideyoshi was attacking the Mōri clan.

Kuroda Yoshitaka was a daimyo and strategist of Hideyoshi, as well as the head of the Kuroda family, near Himeji Castle. After the defeat of the Saitō clan, Kanbei pledged his loyalty to Nobunaga and served under Hideyoshi, with Hanbei. When Itami Castle's lord Murashige Araki planned a revolt against Oda, Kanbei went to convince him not to defect. Araki imprisoned Kanbei and was eventually defeated in the Siege of Itami, freeing Kanbei. Due to his long imprisonment, Kanbei lost use of one leg and one eye, though he still served as Hideyoshi's strategist. During this time, Hideyoshi became more and more wary of Kanbei, as he had become so powerful only with his help and believed Kanbei wanted to overthrow him, especially due to his deep friendship with Rikyu. Regardless, Kanbei eventually retired after a mostly unsuccessful attempt to conquer the Kyūshū region for Ieyasu.

Oichi is the Warlord of Aurora, instead of Azai... oh yeah, we haven't talked about those two, have we? Oichi was the sister of Nobunaga and sister-in-law of Nōhime and wife of Azai Nagamasa, later marrying Shibata Katsuie. Her marriage to Nagamasa was political to cement their clan's alliance after Nobunaga conquered Mino. When Nagamasa betrayed the alliance to declare war on Nobunaga on behalf of the Asukura family, Oichi remained with him throughout the three year conflict, even after Hideyoshi began besieging the castle. When the castle was surrounded, Nobunaga requested that Oichi and her three daughters were to be saved, which Nagamasa agreed to as he committed seppuku soon after. Oichi was cared for by the Oda clan until Nobunaga was killed by Mitsuhide and Oichi married Katsuie so he stayed loyal to the Oda clan and fought against Hideyoshi. When he was defeated, Katsuie and Oichi retreated to Kitanosho Castle, with Hideyoshi following close behind. This time, Oichi remained behind with her husband and sent her daughters to be cared for by Hideyoshi, while she and Katsuie were killed in the siege.

All the Warlords that have a domain are here, though...

Nobunaga looks a bit different. Guess he was evolved in the main story.

We also have this new building in Ignis. Let's check it out.

"worth visiting!"

By the way, I recommend that you invest your gold very wisely. Make smart choices, and you'll see the rewards! Now then, please choose the location you wish to invest in.

The Bank is a postgame building that lets you upgrade a kingdom's facilities. You may have noticed a small level indicator in the top right when viewing facilities, by investing enough gold with enough Warriors with high enough Wisdom, they'll level up and become very useful. This is the big money sink you'll be using, but best to do it in one big go in a story, since location upgrades don't transfer, as well as your gold. So spend spend spend! Oh yeah, hardly any items transfer between stories, making them even more annoying to use, so don't bother upgrading shops and Ponigiri shops, but do focus on Gold Mines, they're extra good now.

We've got stuff to do in our first month. After all, we've only got an army of 3 right now, so we need to build it back up again. Oh joy.

Let's recruit some peeps!

Hope you don't like big numbers, cause we're super weak again. But we should get pretty strong by the time we conquer the entire region...

And of course we're nowhere done with our historical overviews, did you see how many Warriors we met last time? Nowhere near enough. Naka was Hideyoshi's mother, known as Ōmandokoro. Since Hideyoshi started off as a sandal bearer, his family wasn't particularly important, his father was a foot soldier. So not much is known about her as Hideyoshi left home in search of adventure and he very rarely talked about his past.

We've already met Hideaki. Maa was the daughter of Maeda Toshiie, one of the leading generals of Nobunaga. She became one of Hideyoshi's concubines.

Since we've used Hideaki before, all the Pokemon he linked with are still his, meaning we can use his Whirlipede right out the gate. So even if you see one of your favourites using a Pokemon you never gave them, don't fret, they have everything still, which makes life a lot easier as we recruit more and more people.

Hmm, we need to start beating people up so we can get some link, otherwise it's gonna be a long road.

Terumoto is here and he's got Petilil as a Perfect Link. Let's not bother with him and instead with our Fire and Poison types, go and kick Motonari's rear end. The list function is very useful to see who's lurking in kingdom locations so you can decide if you want to recruit them again. The list is your friend.

VS Greenleaf

And just like that, we're in battle. There's no story cutscenes, no preamble, just go straight in. And this does seem familiar...

Ah yeah, I remember that vine bridge. I hope there weren't any maps in this game you disliked cause, uh, there's only one battlefield map for each kingdom. But since we know how they all work, it should be pretty easy now.

Especially since super effective damage is king. There's no story caveats, you can recruit any and all Warriors as soon as you meet them. If you fulfil the recruitment criteria, that is.

We're not going to have any trouble facing these guys down, so this should end quickly.

Still need to claim all the banners, but it was a quick and easy battle.

Gonna be investing in the Ignis Cave whenever I can, we'll need it at max level.

VS Fontaine

Let's beat up water dude.

I think we'll be fine.

If you thought some maps were straightforward before, you ain't seen nothing yet.

This is why you don't bother with the waterways.

With that, we have 3 kingdoms under our control already and we're not even a third of the way through the update yet. We also don't need to recruit literally everyone we come across, since we don't have the need for some Warriors we've already got their Perfect Link with and we don't have a huge amount of space right out of the gate.

When you reach certain milestones such as recruiting enough Warriors, or Pokemon, one of your army will comment about it and increase everyone's Energy. Told you we don't need to micromanage it, it sorts itself out.

VS Aurora

It's Oichi time. We'll go over this kingdom properly since this is the first time we're invading it.

It's a pretty simple kingdom and you may have noticed how strong we are compared to our enemies. They're not really doing much each month, which is fine by me!

We haven't seen too many maps with logs. If you attack them, then they'll move one space in the direction of the attack. Any Pokemon that gets knocked down by one will take damage. The logs also open and close paths and are a fine obstacle, if not particularly exciting.

Ohatsu was the second of Oichi and Nagamasa's three daughters and was a prominent figure due to being a liaison between the Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans. She married her cousin, Kyōgoku Takatsugu, who was a daimyō of the Ōmi Province, under the Toyotomi. He transferred to the Tokugawa and along with Ohatsu, lived an opulent life. When he passed, Ohatsu joined the Jōkō-ji temple and stayed there until she died.

Kōsokabe Chikayasu was Motochika's younger brother and has a jp wiki and fr wiki entries, but not English. I mean, sure.

Slightly annoying, but that'll become our asset soon enough.

Lady Chacha was the eldest daughter of Oichi and Nagamasa and became concubine and second wife to Hideyoshi after she entered his care after Oichi's death. She became mother to Hideyori, who became Hideyoshi's successor and after Hideyoshi's death, she retreated to Osaka Castle and helped Hideyori plot the restoration of the Toyotomi clan. When Ieyasu broke through and attacked Osaka Castle, both she and Hideyori committed seppuku.

Ransei

Welcome to Hideyoshi's army... cutie. Next month!

But it's about time that I thought about retiring. Before I do that, I thought I'd better share some of what I've learned with you young Warriors. If there's anything you want to ask about, youngster, go ahead. This old man has plenty of time on his hands.

Bit late for tutorials, eh? Ah well, let's hear what you've got to say.

Finally, improving a Pokemon's Speed makes it easier for their moves to hit the enemy while also making it easier for them to avoid enemy moves. Got all that?

To increase a move rank to its maximum level, you will need to achieve a 100% link with your Pokemon. Moves whose move ranks are at their maximum level are super powerful, so be sure to work hard and strengthen your link, all right?

Professor tutorial man will appear on May, Year 1 on every scenario. Nice if it's been a while since you've played and want to remember how some things work. But it would've been nice to know about this earlier.

I'll still be going for Perfect Links and all that, but I'm going to be focusing on Warlords a lot more. As a cheeky aside, you should get to using all the Ghost and Poison type Pokemon in this game. WINK WINK.

VS Violight

We've now got enough Warriors to take on TWO kingdoms a month, which will speed things up significantly. You don't need Hideyoshi, Hanbei and Kanbei for all of them, thank god.

A cool change is Muneshige is using an Emolga, though he still has Staravia from the main story. Let's recruit both him and Ginchiyo.[/i]

It will be a bit annoying though, Emolga has Volt Switch which moves it back one space after it attacks, making it annoying to catch up to. This battlefield also makes using Chimchar's Ember tough.

Remember to defeat Warlords with other Warlords, or you'll be quite sad.[/i]

Ah goddammit, guess we'll get Muneshige later. Not that we really have a time limit to get all the Warlords and that, it just makes things easier. Oh well.

Ransei

Hey, Monferno... I feel an even greater strength than I did before... You feel it too, right? Hey, Monferno! We're still a team, right!

Using Hideyoshi in basically every invasion means Chimchar levelled up quickly. Like the main story, using your Warlords in literally every battle gives them a real nice Link boost.

VS Pugilis

Time for Oichi to take centre stage!

Now that we're recruiting old peeps, we've got some real strong Pokemon on our side, like the Gyarados we got at the end of the main story. Oh we will have fun.

I love Samurott. Especially cause I gave it Conqueror. See how I've been preparing for all this?

Tsunokuma Sekisō was a tactician for Ōtomo Sōrin and taught his craft to Dōsetsu Tachibana. He disagreed with Sōrin about attacking the city of Hyūga, but still participated in the siege. He died during the battle.

Man this would seem almost unfair... if I gave a poo poo. Next month!

Hey, remember swarming Pokemon? Well what if you didn't want to get any cause you didn't have the right Pokeball? Yeah, natural swarming Pokemon suck since they don't happen very often and you might not have the right Warrior to link with them. So we'll be using passwords instead of this bullshit, though I will try and remember to pick them up if I can, to make filling out the Gallery a little easier.

Nice one. It took a little bit since our Warriors have been needed elsewhere and we've been a bit low on cash, but it's all worth it.

"it be...?!"

I have no idea what you're talking about...

Getting a kingdom's main battling locale to level 2 makes another one appear, giving you a lot of different Pokemon. Levelling up the facilities are always useful, but getting the second area appear is always useful if you're looking for a specific Pokemon. Also levelling up one area makes some new Pokemon appear, now Charmeleon, Pignite and Darumaka have a chance of appearing in the Cave.

Surprise surprise the goth guy has a Perfect Link with the Litwick line. Instead of waiting until we conquer Spectra (ugggggggh), they can thankfully be found on the Floating Rock, as well as Chimchar. So getting these new areas is pretty worth it.

VS Chrysalia

Chrysalia is still as fun as always, definitely wanna get Yoshimoto, cause the game just isn't complete without him.

Ah good, I haven't missed this.

Still don't have much a problem here.

Sanada Masayuki was the daimyō of the Sanada clan and father of Yukimura. He originally served under Takeda Shingen as a political hostage, but when that clan faltered, he took control and established himself during the Toyotomi regime amongst the Tokugawa, Hojō and Uesugi clans. With Nobunaga's lands relatively free after his death, Masayuki switched between the Uesugi and Hojō clans and then betrayed Ujinao to help Yoda Nobushige, under the Tokugawa clan. Seeing the shift in power, Ujinao offered peace and Masayuki became prominent as Ieyasu's vassal. But soon after when Ieyasu wanted Masayuki to abdicate Numata Castle, Masayuki resisted and cut ties with Ieyasu, instead opting to join under Hideyoshi. After Hideyoshi's death, Masayuki then joined Mitsunari against Ieyasu and sent his son to the Battle of Sekigahara. He faced Hidetada's forces and prevented him from joining Ieyasu to potentially sway the battle. Masayuki was exiled and died due to illness.

Oh look, I got paralyzed 3 turns in a row.

I don't wanna play this map for a while now.

Perfect Link aside it's now Terrera's turn! Cause gently caress Illusio...

VS Terrera

I won't be going for the quick win since I want to recruit people, so let's see how this map plays normally.

Oh, I wonder what will happen?

Seems about right.

Chop that baby. Imagawa Ujizane was a daimyō of the Imagawa clan and the eldest son of Yoshimoto. He married the daughter of Hōjō Ujiyasu as part of an alliance, but after Yoshimoto passed away, Ujizane was attacked by Shingen and Ieyasu. At the Siege of Kakegawa, Ujizane allied himself with Ieyasu in order to recover territory in Suruga and he later went after the Takeda clan with a salt embargo. This was ineffective as Kenshin went around his embargo and with their power faltering, Ujizane accepted the offer by Ieyasu for the Imagawa clan to become Tokugawa retainers.

Mmm that's some good strategy. Always kill the trees.

Ow, Dragon Rage is dangerous again. Maybe this time we can get Kunoichi's Perfect Link.

Up and down the lifts. Make sure you get one of the flags and keep the lift guarded, so the enemy doesn't surprise you, since you can't follow them up the same turn they go up.

I dunno when we'll see this guy again, so Honjō Saneyori was one of Kenshin's teachers in military strategy and played a large role in his growth to adulthood. He was one of his most trusted advisors when Kenshin became head of the clan and followed his master in death when he passed due to illness.

It's not difficult to get the flags after the enemy gets ahold of them, since they get blown off. So we're waiting to take them down.

Easy enough, so gotta clean up the banners.

Would be nice if we could conquer the whole region by the end of the year. Ah, it'll probably be by the second year.

Ransei

Another Energy boost, everyone's doing alright, so off to the next month!

Everyone's been a bit quiet so far. Boy, I wonder what Masamune's up to?

I'm not surprised at that.

Now that's just embarrassing, you just got a boost from beating back birds, brah!

Finally Pichu appeared, now Hanbei can get his Perfect Link. What a couple of handsome boys.

Gotta test out Litwick, of course. Gamō Ujisato was a retainer to Nobunaga after he took over the Rokkaku clan and Ujisato was taken as a political hostage, so Ujisato's father could pledge his loyalty to Nobunaga. He grew into a fine young man and in his first battle sieging Kizukuri Castle, he impressed Nobunaga so much that he gave his daughter Fuyuhime in marriage to Ujisato and was affectionally referred to by Nobunaga as "my little son-in-law." They had two children, one daughter, one son. When Nagamasa betrayed Nobunaga, Ujisato helped his master escape by taking him to Hino Castle and arranging his escape to Gifu. For this feat, Nobunaga posted him under Katsuie with his father and then eventually under his personal command at Hino Castle. When Nobunaga was killed, Ujisato sheltered his wife and children and then submitted to Hideyoshi and was rewarded with Aizu for the pacification of Ōshū, where his family stayed for years.

Rhyperior status: still good. Tanegashima Tokitaka was the man who introduced muskets to Japan, changing warfare forever. When a Chinese ship with Portuguese adventurers were shipwrecked on the island of Tanegashima, Tokitaka purchased two matchlock muskets from them and enlisted a smith, Yaita, to replicate them. He did so easily enough, aside from a tricky screwing technique that didn't exist in Japan in time, so they enlisted a Portuguese blacksmith to solve the problem. Within 10 years, 300,000 Tanegashima firearms had been manufactured. The use of serial firing allowed Shingen and Nobunaga to change Japanese warfare forever and they both heavily invested in firearms.

Ryūzōji Takanobu was a daimyō of the Ryūzōji clan on the island of Kyushu and became the 19th head of the clan after his father, Ryūzōji Chikaie. He expanded the clan's holdings, taking land from the Shōni clan, but when his retainer Arima Harunobu split, several local clans took the opportunity to start an uprising. He led an army to quell them, but was defeated by Shimazu Iehisa, whose clan had allied with the locals. Takanobu was killed by Kawakami Tadakata, a Shimazu retainer.

VS Illusio

...alright it's Illusio time.

More banner fun, let's send over Gyarados to deal with one side.

Kanetsugu took the banner this time, though thankfully there's no Gallade running around. Hōjō Gen'an was a monk, son of Hōjō Sōun and uncle to Ujiyasu, who inherited the clan after Gen'an's brother and Ujiyasu's father, Ujitsuna, passed.

Ow

Let's smack some sense into this lot. Due to turn timers, we'll only be recruiting Kanetsugu and Aya (and Gen'an), but it's not a huge deal.

Since we're here, Murakami Yoshikiyo was a samurai and retainer of Kenshin, participating in many conflicts against Takeda Nobutora and his son, Shingen. Shingen severely disliked him due to Yoshikiyo's high kill count, though before he joined Kenshin, he and Shingen were on good terms. He fought many bitter battles against Shingen, with both of them enjoying their share of victories as one outwitted the other. Yoshikiyo killed a fair number of Shingen's generals and after abandoning the village of Shinano, Yoshikiyo went to Kenshin for aid. He fought under Kenshin during the Battle of Kawanakajima, where he is credited for killing Shingen's brother, Nobushige, though Kenshin is also credited with this. He was able to recover Shinano and later died in the town.

We now have over half of Ransei under our command. What a wild ride this story has been so far... oh wait, there hasn't been a cutscene since the very beginning.

VS Yaksha

Next up is Yaksha, I guess and did you just leave him on 1HP??? Ugggggggh, the projected number was 62, but I guess I got the lowest roll.

Well that's neat.

I get ya, Motonari, seeing a new Pokemon for the first time is always a joy.

Nice, finally got scary claw man.

Well that was, uh, fun? Let's not battle in Yaksha anytime soon. Least we've seen all these ninja before, but now we're in the old Nobunaga territory, so everyone we recruit should be brand new in our Gallery.

Ransei

But I think that should do us, we've conquered a lot of Ransei and to be honest, it's been pretty easy and kinda boring. Still, at least we'll get through this story with little trouble.[/i]

Yeah! We're supporting you! You've got to show them what you're made of!

...You're right. We must not wallow in self-pity.

The heck is going on here?

Wait a minute did you just increase your strength by 700 in one turn?

Well that's cool, at least, it's shaking things up on the map. This power boost could be pretty interesti-

And here we start the awful part of this game. This postgame is bad, bad, bad. You can see three of the reasons why it is bad right off the bat: it's repetitive, it resets your levels (though not your Pokemon, thankfully) and the loving Gabite guy. He can ruin runs and you'll never see him coming.

Let me repeat one point of the update:

quote:

Since we've used Hideaki before, all the Pokemon he linked with are still his, meaning we can use his Whirlipede right out the gate. So even if you see one of your favourites using a Pokemon you never gave them, don't fret, they have everything still, which makes life a lot easier as we recruit more and more people.

This is a gigantic deal for reasons Crosspeice has not mentioned and I, for obvious reasons, will not mention either. But this is the one thing the game is being nice to the player with and it makes several scenarios (well, all, but some specifically) much, much easier. Or at least, much faster, which considering the sheer tedium of this postgame, it's a big deal.

Beyond that, uhh...

quote:

Lady Chacha was the eldest daughter of Oichi and Nagamasa and became concubine and second husband to Hideyoshi

Is there anything you're not telling us about her here? And...

quote:

When a Chinese ship with Portuguese adventures were shipwrecked on the island of Tanegashima

While I'm sure they had their fair share of adventures, these are probably adventurers.

I'm actually gonna go ahead and defend the post game, to a certain extent. Personally I feel like the structure of it works very well as a handheld game, particularly a DS game: You play a few turns/battles, you close the DS, you open it back up when you got some free time. It's the type of game where it requires just enough focus to be interesting, but not enough to be taxing on your mental fortitude. Makes for a nice relaxing game to play while listening to podcasts and the like.

Gaining back your linked Pokemon may be one of the few things that carry over from scenario to scenario, but by no means should you discount it, being able to use fully evolved mons from the word go is a huge benefit, and it makes recruiting in the early game way easier since you can rely on quick kills or one-shot kills rather than super effective damage. It also encourages you to fully upgrade even your generic warlords since depending on how things pan out, anyone can be an early game shitkicker in the next scenario.

On the negative side there's really no defending certain maps, Spectra is always the one that jumps out at me as the "aw gently caress I gotta go there?" area of the game.

I dunno, it's not amazing but it worked really well for my tastes, well enough that I almost completed my pokedex and warriordex in this game, and I never do that.

In theory, I don't really mind that the postgame is more of a generic version of story mode? But I imagine it all tends to become the same once you own half of PokeJapan.

Just pokemon total war but you have to win from every start location?

You aren't reading it right. The conditions for clearing each story vary (not on each story though, there's very few options that get repeated for several characters). Conquering all is one, there's others which we'll see in time, I'm sure.

Part 11: Tolerable Postgame

VS Yaksha

Welcome back. When we last left off, our nearby enemies trained all day yesterday and are now a threat. You're right, it sucks.

Like seriously, what the gently caress is this?

Super effective damage is the only way to get out of this, since our opponents are slightly stronger than us. We also have to deal with this bullshit map and the slight burn out that occurs from JUST fighting in this map.

That's very funny though. I don't think the AI realises how awful Flame Burst's splash damage is.

See, we're getting out hit here, which is never a good thing for a simple battle game like this.

Still, we should be alright, Pansear is the most dangerous opponent (I know, right?) since we can't chunk it really hard, but I have a plan.

Since it has a 2 range move, we can trap it like this and make it unable to attack while we slowly kill it. I'm a genius!

I'm a fool, goddammit Yaksha!

Oh yeah, cause our enemies are stronger and have higher stats, hit rates also go down, which is just what you want. God what a dumb mechanic.

Alright, we Poisoned it, now it can actually die.

I think in a straight up fight we would've lost since we couldn't hit it that hard, but I dunno for sure.

Actually, yeah, we would've totally lost.

Uh, yeah, sure, keikaku and all that.

Ransei

Alright, let's never do anything like that again. Unfortunately, we still have to beat up all the strong guys, but they didn't become impossible to beat, just annoying. Anyway, is it our turn yet?

"and Lord Kanetsugu!"

...the gently caress is this?

Lord Motoharu is hereby appointed the Guardian of Power!

I shall continue to wield my strength to the best of my ability!

Lord Shingen is hereby appointed the Guardian of Wisdom!

I still have a long way to go on that count...

Lady Oichi is hereby appointed the Guardian of Charisma!

I just can't believe it! Thank you so much!

Lord Kanetsugu is hereby appointed the Guardian of Capacity!

Never has there been a happier day! Kirlia shares my gratitude!

Hey, guys! Let's join forces and give this army everything we've got!

Alright, the Four Guardians event, uh... *rustles nonexistant papers* ...only occurs after conquering over half the available kingdoms. Out of the four stats, Warriors or Warlords that have the highest in that category are appointed as a Guardian and will never leave the army. Uh, that's it, I am going to completely forget this ever happened. There's a fair few random events that can happen, but whether we see them or not is up the chance.

ANYWAY, we can see that Ujiyasu and friends have gotten real strong, so we should crush these rebels before they become La Resistance. This shouldn't encourage you to spread out your army so you don't trigger the Gabite guy, you'll easily overtake the enemy without trying, so get as strong as possible so you can destroy the new nuisances as soon as possible. There is a limit to this power boost, they won't jump like 3000 power in one go to catch up to you.

Muneshige get.

VS Cragspur

I guess I'll properly go over a battle now that we have some actual competence on the opponent's side.

Only Conkeldurr and Samurott will actually be fighting in this battle, everyone else is here so they can stop being fuckin useless already.

Gah Sturdy, gah Dragon Rage.

Gah Dragon Rage, ooh Aqua Tail.

Even with Superpower lowering stats, Conkeldurr is still a wrecking ball, especially when it gets statused.

Ow. We absolutely want to recruit Kai, she's great.

Oh, wasn't I gonna show off that battle properly? Well, that was me doing so, since as the updates go on I'll be skipping around and over a lot of things, otherwise there's gonna be a LOT of repetiton.

Ransei

Alright, only Nene and Masamune are strong, because of course we've gotta deal with a strong Hanzo and Spiritomb again, sigh.

These notifications will be useful later, but for now it's a nice little boost to Energy. I haven't used a Ponigiri once.

Also, levelling up that cave in Ignis continues to be useful as we can get Kai's Perfect Link. Ohohohohohohohohohoho. Do continue levelling the cave up to 3.

VS Viperia

Alright, Viperia time, I guess. It's gonna be super similar to our first fight here, even more so than Cragspur.

The AI is still dumb, let me show you something you cool.

Every turn Ekans is gonna come out from that passage. Gyarados will just knock it right back to where it was and Ekans is go back through the passage every turn until it's knocked out. If you can get an enemy like this then it is hilarious.

Seems to be going alright. Gotta place Rhyperior somewhere it can hit Golbat, but it's a speedy little fella and can't stop moving to all these awkward places.

Ah gently caress Interference. These are numbers you never want to see, what is this, Fire Emblem?

Oh. drat. Nice one Roggenrola.

Alright, let's wrap this up. It took a while but we've actually encountered someone new! Hattori Yasunaga was an Iga ninja and father of Hattori Hanzō and due to Hanzō's popularity, there's very little info about Yasunaga. Oh well.

After smacking the ghost for like 10 minutes it goes down and we are victorious.

Ransei

Ooh very nice, rock ear did some work in that battle.

Some Pokemon and Warlords are less expressive than others, not everyone has like 5 different emotion portraits, some have 2 or 3, like can you see the difference in those Boldore images? They are there, trust me. There are some amazing portraits we'll hopefully see later on.

VS Avia

Last strong guy is Masamune, but annoyingly he's conquered Spectra. This does mean we can just walk over his divided forces in Avia, but he'll still be strong in Spectra. Ugh.

Only worries are Masamune with Scyther and Magoichi with Carnivine.

Tsuruhime was the seventh daughter of Oda Nobunaga (he had like 23 kids, not a big deal) and was married to Nakagawa Hidemasa, son of Nakagawa Kiyohide, who served Nobunaga. She doesn't seem to have done anything notable and Hidemasa died at a young age at the Battle of Bunroku. Since Nō never had children, Tsuruhime is not her daughter.

Yeah yeah, see you soon.

Easy enough, so we'll chase them north soon enough. But let's do other things first!

Ransei

Like get lots of cash and then...?

Get even more cash! Sometimes while mining you'll have the option to use an item to increase the amount you get, though it can fail and you'll get nothing. The Hammer is the best, giving you 3x the amount, so if you consistently use Gold Mines throughout a story, you should have a good chunk of gold, which you'll want no matter the story. With Meowth, you'll never need to upgrade mines through banks, just focus on the various caves and locations instead.

Oh? Is Masamune becoming even more annoying to wipe out?

...huh? Well it's not as surprising as you think. The AI only sends enough army to just beat out the opponent in Strength, so he probably sent like 3 guys? Wouldn't want the strong AIs to just roll out of control, that's only for us!

VS Valora

Ugh Valora, Ieyasu will be easy to take down thankfully, so let's just get this awkward map over with.

Want me to show the cameras moving every turn? No? Good, gently caress Valora.

Let's do something fun instead, like spinning on gears and nearly hitting the damage cap.

Yeah I think we'll be fine.

That was pretty dumb since Lairon is now Burned and we need Samurott to recruit it. Hopefully it lasts!

Phew, barely. That about wraps things up. Now I just need to catch up to Quagsire once it stops getting caught by cameras every turn.

Ashikaga Yoshiteru was the 13th Shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate, the elder brother of the 15th Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiaki, who was installed by Oda Nobunaga in the power vacuum. Yoshiteru became a puppet shogun like his father at the age of 11 after his father, the 12th Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiharu, was forced to retire after a political struggle with a local daimyo, Hosokawa Harumoto. While his father made peace with Harumoto so the family could return to Kyoto, Harumoto's retainer, Miyoshi Nagayoshi, drove out the Ashikaga family into exile, where Yoshiharu passed, leaving Yoshiteru as a shogun in exile. He made peace with Nagayoshi to return to Kyoto again and then the next year attempted to remove Nagayoshi with Harumoto's help. However, he lost to Nagayoshi and was driven from Kyoto for the third time. Afraid of killing a Shogun, Nagayoshi agreed for Yoshiteru to return back to Kyoto again so long as Yoshiteru did whatever Nagayoshi wanted.

Despite being a puppet, Yoshiteru took any opportunity to govern through diplomacy and gained the respect of many daimyo, like Nobunaga and Kenshin. When Nagayoshi died of illness, Yoshiteru saw the opportunity to reclaim his full authority, however Matsunaga Hisahide and the Miyoshi Triumvirs were quite happy ruling as Nagayoshi did and wished to remove Yoshiteru from power and install Ashikaga Yoshihide. Hisahide and Yoshitsugu attacked Yoshiteru quickly to prevent any local daimyos assisting him, quickly overrunning and killing him. Yoshihide was installed as the 14th Shogun and died shortly after due to illness, leaving Kyoto in a vacuum until Nobunaga arrived to install Yoshiaki and drive out Hisahide. That was kinda long, but I didn't expect to find such an important figure randomly. The danger of going on historical tangents when we encounter a new Warrior: you never know who they'll be until you look into it.

Ransei

Neat. Three kingdoms remain.

Let's have a breather, we need to put Warriors in the Gallery after all.

I didn't intend for Shingen to be a great recruiter, but he fits the role so easily. Anyway, Honjō Saneyori was a part of Kenshin's inner circle and was close friends with Kanetsugu's adoptive father, Naoe Kagetsuna (not in game).

Ah good, more of this please. Ekans evolves when its Attack reaches 59.

Let's recruit Kenshin and then not touch him for the rest of the scenario cause we can't do anything with him. Cool.

VS Spectra

Alright let's get this over with, if Mitsuhide and Nobunaga get strong after this month I'm gonna be mildly upset and then crush them anyway.

gently caress trees. Hey Tsuru.

Ōkubo Nagayasu was a samurai bureaucrat and a vassal of Ieyasu. He was in charge of the silver mines in Sagami, Sado and Izu, expanding and increasing production in all three. After his death, evidence of misconduct was discovered and his fief was confiscated and his sons were ordered to commit seppuku.

Stop that Boldore.

Kamehime was the eldest daughter of Ieyasu with his first official wife, Lady Tsukiyama. She married Okudaira Nobumasa, who repelled a Takeda siege at Nagashino Castle after defecting. Nobunaga and Ieyasu were impressed when they arrived to reinforce, so Nobunaga allowed him to use part of his name and Ieyasu offered his daughter in marriage, who had been at the battle and assisted Nobumasa.

The battle ended quickly enough that the Misdreavus statues didn't get in the way too much. They were around, but moveable field elements disappear during attack animations.

Ransei

We're getting to the end here, we could end this scenario this month. Though there's still a lot of things to do.

Oh neat, another event.

Hmm, no.

They'll be fine since the scenario will be over before they can revolt and lower everyone's Energy. If you keep donating to the farmers when they show up then you'll get some nice rare items, including evolution items! But I'm saving my money for other things and we'll soon be done here, so whatever.

VS Nixtorm

Now as you might expect, this story will end when we control all 17 kingdoms, so there's always one army you won't be able to recruit and one kingdom we won't be able to use. Our choice here doesn't really matter, but might as well save Nobunaga for later.

gently caress icicles and icebergs.

Hanzo's power got reset when he went off after Viperia, so he's weak again and easy to recruit.

Are you loving kidding me.

I wish we could've done this the first time around. Oh well, got him now.

Oh behave. I love that Guts activates while sleeping. Samurott is still frozen btw.

Could've ended this battle a lot earlier if half my team didn't succumb to status, but whatever, I'm not mad.

Ransei

I think we've got a few Warlords in our army now.

Choan is absolutely necessary to recruit as he's the only one who can Perfect Link with Bidoof. He will be instrumental in our future.

Oh yeah, we're basically done with this story, so now we're gonna do something fun! (Hint, it's not fun at all). By the end of this story, most of our Warlords and Pokemon are at max like 45-50% or so. The average for Pokemon and Warlords to evolve are like 55-60%, so we're close, but most of our army are pretty weak and it would be real tedious to grind them up to make the rest of the postgame easier, so I'm just gonna use AR codes to increase link gain by 32x. Obviously this isn't something you should do playing this game normally, but I'm gonna get super bored going through the postgame normally and not finish the LP. I don't want that. I do want to buff everyone up, getting Perfect Link and evolutions and have a much easier time going through most of the stories, since I will have to go through a lot of them to reach the final scenario and I won't be playing this game in chunks over a few months, I'll be blasting through most of it and I could get burned out real fast if I have to slog through this postgame and do it bit by bit.

The game intends you to play through everyone's stories to slowly evolve everyone as you use them primarily, but that's boring for an LP and as you've seen in this story, we easy rolled over most of the kingdoms and didn't end up amazingly strong at the end of it. There are some high requirements to reach that we'll need to grind for and while I could spend the next 5-10 in-game years doing that, I could just cheat and save a lot of time. You can leave a kingdom empty so the AI takes it over so you can beat them up over and over again for link, but gently caress that. Let's go on a crazy spree and evolve most of the Warlords, cause they're the only ones that matter.

Now this is gonna be a bit of a long one, so I'll be splitting it into a separate update if watching numbers go up isn't your jam. Click right here for all the juicy info! Otherwise, here are the highlights so you know the real important stuff that happened, but if you just care about taking down Dragnor and finishing the story, then just skip to after Oichi evolves (spoilers).

Just before we start, here's a password. What does it do? Find out slightly later! Wow, suspense!

Monferno evolves when its Speed reaches 102 and Hideyoshi evolves when his link with Monferno or Infernape reaches 60%. See, we were close, but it would've taken a couple months to get to that point and I ain't got time for that.

Hey, Infernape! We're still a team, right!

So, spoilers, every single Warlord can evolve and this lets them Perfect Link with their fully evolved Pokemon partner. So if a Warlord stops having their Pokemon appear in the back, then they need to evolve to have that happen again.

Now I sense an even greater power than we had before, Pikachu. You feel it too, right? Let's stay friends, Pikachu!

Pichi evolves into Pikachu at 50% link, like most friendship evolutions. Hanbei evolves when Pikachu or Raichu reaches 60% link while in the same kingdom as Kanbei. Therefore...

Lampent... I sense a greater power than I did before... Do you feel it too? Well. Shall we set off, Lampent?

Litwick evolves when it reaches 84 Attack and Kanbei evolves when Lampent or Chandelure reaches 60% link while in the same kingdome as Hanbei. How cute.

I won't be showing every evolution that happens, but I will be doing most of the Warlords. We can't do all of them just yet and some I'll leave for future so we have something to look forward to. Also this is the only reason I reached level 3 in that Ignis cave, so Larvesta can appear and become Okuni's Perfect Link. Yes it's as amazing as you think.

Magoichi's Perfect Link is with the Treecko line and Hanzo's is with the Gastly line. I'm evolving all the Poison and Ghost types I can find to make things easier later. Also any new Warriors we encounter will be given full depth in the side update.

Motonari only evolves when you have over 100 Pokemon registered in the Gallery (as well as having 60% link with Servine or Serperior). Motochika has no such requirement, so he's very easy to snowball in any story he's in.

There is a Pokemon inside it, too! One that has never been seen before!

It looks powerful... Most Warriors would not even dare approach such a Pokemon.

Hmm... This sounds interesting. I shall go and investigate.

That password seems to have caused something to appear. Whatever could it be?

VS Legendary

Hey Reshiram, why you hiding buddy? Surprise surprise, a Gen 5 game with Zekrom in it has Reshiram too. However, due to it being an event (originally over Wi-Fi, but thankfully over password too), it's not counted towards 100% and the game will let you do stuff later on if you don't activate Reshiram's event.

Well Hideyoshi doesn't have Reshiram as a Perfect Link. Maybe we can change that when we give it a test run next month.

Excellent. Nene only evolves when you register all 16 Poison types into the Gallery, which can be a bit tricky since she also needs 60% link with Crobat (unless you evolve a Golbat elsewhere to register a Crobat beforehand) and Golbat evolves at 65% link. So I'm glad we could do this right now, but we'll have to wait on getting all the Ghost types since some of them are harder to come by (especially since Chandelure, Mismagius, Froslass and Dusknoir need evolution items).

Gracia's Perfect Link is with the Gothita line once I finally found one for her, while Oichi evolves when Jigglypuff or Wigglytuff reaches 55% link. She looks super cute now!

Phew, there's still stuff to do during this month, but only Warriors are registered to the Gallery by using them in battle the month after you did something crazy, but after you save, Pokemon are automatically attached and remain with their Warriors even if you don't register them next month, so it's more things to look forward to.

Hey, it's not nice to call people weird, you know! Anyway, I'm just a travelling merchant, so you can stop panicking. And I've brought some extra-special rare items with me today.

Oh well, this is a great opportunity. We should try and purchase some useful items, shouldn't we?

I was wondering if the travelling merchant would show up. This guy is someone you should prepare for, as there are a lot of items only he has, which can be super annoying if he pops up at a bad time. If you don't have any facilities to level up, then you should get a chunk of money regardless for the merchant.

Anyway, these four items are the only single use items that stay between stories, so they're a good investment, kinda. You can guess what the Full Restore and Purple Ponigiri do and they are pretty good, but again, Skills are free and easier to use. Hachimakis maxes out Attack, but makes the Pokemon faint on the 4th turn. Yes, it's amazing. Noisemakers prevent enemies from using items or Skills on the next turn. Eh, it's not that good.

Likewise, this is most of the equipment that stays between stories, aside from character exclusive items, like the Jigglypuff Charm, though you need to equip them each time. Fog Machines prevent the enemy from landing crits. Eh. Guardian Charms are pricy but sharply boost all stats when the Pokemon is the last one standing on the field, including if you only bring the one Warrior to that field. Combined with the Hero ability that basically does the same thing, this can make solo runs incredibly potent. Lucky Coins increase gold gains in battle and in the overworld. Combine with a Meowth and you'll have a nice amount of cash. Still eh. Large Sacks collect all the items on the field after battle, but can only be used once. Again, eh.

This is the main draw of the travelling merchant, evolution items! But first, let's go over the unique items here. Fireworks are used in January and boost energy for all in the army. Cold Medicine and Hayfever Pills are used in certain events to get good outcomes, but they're not necessary. Seriously, there's a lot of small events in this game and we had hardly any occur in this story. Maybe next one.

So this is the only place to obtain evolution items, which sucks really hard, since you need them to fill out the Gallery. I'm just gonna hack them in after this story cause I'm not gonna rely on this merchant appearing when I'm ready. To get all the evolutions for Warlords, you'll need a Razor Claw, a Thunderstone (since we got a free Thunderstone, Fire Stone and Water Stone for Eevee), a Moon Stone, two Dusk Stones, a Reaper Cloth and a Dawn Stone. Everything else is extra if you want to get every Pokemon, though a Protector is unnecessary. So yeah, a bit annoying, but we'll manage.

We've got enough spare cash to get a Moon Stone and a Dusk Stone. To use them, simply equip them to the right Pokemon and finish a battle. Simple. For Pokemon that require an item and a trade, you need to equip an item then recruit a Warrior with that Pokemon. Since there's no day/night or genders, the Razor Claw and Dawn Stone are much simpler to use.

Gothorita... It's weird--the feeling I have about you seems to have grown stronger... Do you get the same feeling? Okay! Let's stay friends, Gothorita!

There's still some evolving and all that that'll be in the side update, so who cares about that, let's go kick Nobunaga's rear end. Again... again.

VS Dragnor

I think we're a bit stronger than them.

Okay, I know we're like 50x stronger than our opponents, but Reshiram is a really powerful Pokemon regardless, especially since it ignores abilities like Sturdy. Hideyoshi is gonna be a monster in future.

Mmm, that's the good stuff. Even though this is the final battle, it acts like any other, so you can recruit opponents, evolve, get items, etc, even though none of that matters (aside from Pokemon evolution).

You're a terrible brother.

Ideura Morikiyo was a ninja that served as a vassal in the Sanada clan and was governor of the Kai province under the Takeda family. He commanded groups of ninja to infiltrate castles and fortresses as he was a former ninja and very experienced in that field. After the Sanada clan fell, Morikiyo served under Nagayoshi Mori and led heavy fights with the Hōjō clan.

Nice, we've reached 100% link! It doesn't do anything unless your move benefits from a +S boost, but it's not worth it since getting to 100% legit takes forever and is awful and the opponents will never ever get close to your level. Anyway, let's recruit everyone? I guess???

Ransei

I can't wait to use these guys in another story. Seriously why are we able to do this?

Hey, Reshiram... I feel even greater strength than I did before... You feel it too, right? Hey, Reshiram! We're still a team, right!

Woah how crazy, Hideyoshi can evolve a second time if he reaches 70% link with Reshiram, who saw that coming? It's pretty neat, but isn't counted for completion if you never do the Reshiram event. We'll see what cool things he can do another time. For now, it's stone evolution time!

I sense a greater strength from you now than ever before, Wigglytuff... You feel it too--I know it. Let's stay together, Wigglytuff!

Okay I think we're done here, let us never grind again.

Lord Hideyoshi... Isn't that...?

It's here! The legendary Pokemon! It won't be long now! Soon we'll have a world where all people can live happily together with Pokemon!

Ransei was united under Hideyoshi's leadership, and conflict was banished from the region. As a result, it became easier for Pokemon and people to understand one another. The fact that this change was brought about through the power of Arceus, however, was known to no one...

Credits

And there we go, we're finally finished with this LP, thank you everyone for watching and... I'm not gonna do this joke again. We're at least done with Hideyoshi's story and got an alright ending, I guess. We'll see how it stacks up compared to the others.

Anyway, we've seen how this all goes, so let's save up and head back to the main menu.

When you complete a story, you usually unlock a new story you can play. There's 3 types of stories: Mandatory, which are the 17 stories of the main Warlords you need to complete to unlock the final scenario, as well as any other stories that unlock Mandatory stories. So Nene's is an example of that. Optional stories aren't required for the final scenario, but do unlock other stories if you're interested. Hanbei's is one of those, since completing that one unlocks Kanbei's story, which is the final type: Pointless. Doesn't unlock any new stories and isn't required to unlock the final scenario, but if you like the character, or are completing every story (you crazy motherfucker) then you can complete it, I guess.

Next time, it's Ieyasu's story and as you can see, we've still got a long way to go. Later!

Part 11.5: When THIS Happens!

Ransei

Well hello there, wanna see numbers go up? Well you're in the right place. Let's get started. If that's not what you're here for, you want the previous update where we skip most of this stuff, cause boy there's a lot of it.

Now I sense an even greater power than we had before, Pikachu. You feel it too, right? Let's stay friends, Pikachu!

Pichu evolves into Pikachu when its link reaches 50%.

Lampent... I sense a greater power than I did before... Do you feel it too? Well. Shall we set off, Lampent?

Litwick, meanwhile, evolves into Lampent when its Attack reaches 64. Good number.

While we're doing this, I'll show a bit of what our new Pokemon can do, but we'll be leaving most of it to when we actually use the fully evolved Warlords and Pokemon in future updates.

God this makes my life so much easier. I love cheating so much.

There's my handsome boy. Get used to seeing this a lot. Hanbei evolves when Pikachu or Raichu reaches 60% link while Kanbei is in the same kingdom. So...

Kanbei evolves when Lampent or Chandelure reaches 60% while Hanbei is in the same kingdom. Very cute.

Well I was gonna get Gracia's Perfect Link, Gothita, but Bokuzen had other ideas, the dick. Oh well, here's Brave Bird, it wrecks fools, but lowers your Defence and Range. If you can chain it though, it's amazing.

Muneshige evolves when his Staravia or Staraptor reach 60% link and Ginchiyo isn't in an adjacent kingdom.

Aya evolves when her Snorunt or Froslass (spoilers) reaches 55% link and we won't be evolving Snorunt in this story cause evolution items suck.

Some real powerhouses are coming up. Luxray is potent, but Thunder is like Rock Wrecker without the cooldown, still sucks cause of the range. Luxio evolves when its Attack reaches 95. Charizard's Flamethrower is amazing, but not incredibly powerful, since it hits 3 squares in front. Charmeleon evolves when its Attack reaches 83.

No

Getting Okuni is good, as we'll soon see, but now it's time for stuff that really should've happened already!

Kai evolves when she reaches 55% link with Darumaka, so it won't be a Darmanitan unless you evolved it previously cause it takes awhile (for good reason).

Monferno evolves when its Speed reaches 102. Fire Spin is now in our hands.

Ah, finally, Motochika isn't completely leaving you in the dust, kinda. Servine evolves when its Speed reaches 104 and like with Simisage, it's not a great constant attacker with Leaf Storm's Attack drop.

Sneaky password, what does it do??? Find out in February.

Got some good stuff here. This is why I levelled up this cave to 3, so Larvesta start appearing, which Okuni Perfect Links with. You're right, that is amazing. Sanada Yukitaka is the last Warrior alphabetically and was one of Shingen's Twenty-Four Generals. He participated in many battles, such as the Battle of Odaihara and the Siege of Toishi. He was one of three generals to be named Danjōchū by Shingen, three revered warriors that were the closest to him. He was father of Sanada Nobutsana and Sanada Masayuki, thus grandfather of Sanada Yukimura.

Aggron... Now I sense an even greater power when I'm with you than I did before. Do you sense it too? I've got high hopes for us!

See, he just looked weird without giant iron dinosaur behind him. Lairon evolves when its Defense reaches 130. You may have noticed that Ieyasu has a Perfect Link with Aggron, but not Lairon, which is a crime, since Lairon is one of my faves. I wonder what that could imply?

Soon I shall reveal why I keep evolving all these Poison types. Whirlipede evolves when its Speed reaches 57, while Croagunk evolves when its Attack reaches 81.

Choan will soon become the saviour of Ransei, he shall get his chance in another story. Hopefully. Bidoof evolves when its Attack reaches 39. Crazy.

I love baby murderbug.

Magoichi's Perfect Link is with the Treecko line, because of course it is. Soon I shall reveal why I keep evolving all these Ghost types.

Gotta treat my boy Kashinkoji right, cause his name is fuckin amazing. Skorupi evolves when its Defense reaches 90.

I am evolving other Pokemon, might as well right? Gives us more options in future stories when we don't have much to our army. Sewaddle evolves when its Defense reaches 60.

This might be a bit of a surprise, but Masamune's Perfect Link is the Rufflet line. Crazy, right? Also we need to register all the evolved Pokemon and Warlords, so you'll see them popping up here and there, but they won't be evolving again. Probably.

Haunter... I feel a greater strength when I am with you now... Do you feel it also? Haunter... Together, we will be unstoppable.

Yesssssssssssss. Gastly evolves when its Attack reaches 99.

No. If Snorunt were to evolve into Glalie, its HP needs to reach 128.

Handsome bird boys.

I'm not really focusing on Perfect Links for Warriors while it's Warlord power hour. Maybe next story.

Finally. Ginchiyo evolves when she reaches 60% link with Luxio or Luxray while Muneshige is not in an adjacent kingdom.

I love the different Warlord and Pokemon portraits.

There was an unrecruited Warlord. We fixed it.

Burn baby burn. Uh, yeah, Tsumaki Hiroko was Mitsuhide's wife and daughter of Tsumaki Norihiro, a retainer to the Toki clan. Since she still had smallpox scars when engaged to Mitsuhide, her father was prepared to offer her younger sisters as well in compensation, but Mitsuhide refused and gladly wed Hiroko, never taking on other concubines and treasuring her. She stayed with him during Nobunaga's constant slander and fought to restore Mitsuhide's name in court. They had one child together, Akechi Tama and she passed due to illness despite Mitsuhide's best efforts.

Cool, we won't do anything with you aside from register in the Gallery. Some Warlords need to be a surprise for later after all. Anyway, let the carnage begin.

Ah, the stache returns. Hideyoshi evolves when he reaches 60% link with Monferno or Infernape. It's crazy that our main Warlord didn't evolve during this story, another reason why cheating is good.

Elemental, my dear. Motochika evolves when he reaches 65% link with Dewott or Samurott. Motonari is a bit different, as he requires a 60% link with Servine or Serperior as well as 100 Pokemon registered in the Gallery. Before we started this mass evolution, we actually didn't have enough, so I'm glad we made it.

Yoshihiro evolves when he reaches 60% link with Gurdurr or Conkeldurr.

Ujiyasu evolves when he reaches 60% link with Boldore or Gigalith. Say... didn't Boldore recruit Ina just now?

Boldore evolves when you reach the requirements for Warrior recruitment at 60% link. Man, it's like I plan this stuff in advance, mental.

Spot the difference.

Oh this is good. Darumaka evolves when its Attack reaches 110.

They're perfect for each other. Next month time!

By entering this ~secret~ password we get an interesting event in Ignis. Let's go take a look.

Surprise surprise, a Gen 5 game with Zekrom in it has Reshiram too. However, due to it being an event (originally over Wi-Fi, but thankfully over password too), it's not counted towards 100% and the game will let you do stuff later on if you don't activate Reshiram's event. Again, full details in the main update

Yeah our guys are getting pretty powerful, Stone Edge and Fire Blast are great moves. Of course, it can be worth keeping a Pokemon at a lower evolution to have a weaker, but more accurate move. But where's the fun in that?

Neato. Yukimura evolves when he reaches 65% link with Charmeleon or Charizard while Shingen is in the same kingdom.

Certain characters have elements surrounding them during their fierce portrait. It's cool as heck and that's all this line is about okay see ya.

Getting there. Golbat evolves when it reaches 65% link.

Now we've got a Pokemon that is blocked by an evolution item we haven't seen. Isn't that fun?

It's perched on his shoulder!!!

Omi no kata was daughter of Akechi Mitsutsugu, grandfather of Mitsuhide, who served Saitō Dōsan. She became Dōsan's wife and birthed Nō, making Nō and Mitsuhide cousins (first cousins? Second? I dunno the specifics). Uh, there's not much known about her, okay, but it's cool how everyone relates to each other, I guess.

Hanzō evolves when he reaches 60% link with Haunter or Gengar. And cause I'm so good at this, Haunter knocked out a Warrior in this battle, soooooooooo...

Oh, uh, give it a sec.

Rufflet evolves when its Attack reaches 119. Don't get excited, we can't evolve Masamune yet. But one day...

There we go, Haunter evolves when you reach the requirements for Warrior recruitment at 60% link. This won't be the last time we have to do something like this, alas.

Hey, Grovyle... I feel an even greater strength when I am with you now... You know what I mean, don't you...? If you're with me, I reckon I can grow even stronger! We're still a team, right, Grovyle?

Was Grovyle always this small? Well, Magoichi is actually pretty tall, so it kinda makes sense. Treecko evolves when its Speed reaches 58.

Give me my Fabio already. Wait, I think I'm too early for that. drat. Mareep evolves when it reaches 53 Attack.

Thankfully because of Shingen we don't have to think about evolving Rhydon. Makes my life easier. Rhyhorn evolves when its Attack reaches 108. If you were mad enough to evolve it again, you need to give it a Protector, then do the Warrior recruitment thingy. I don't wanna paste it again.

Get over here, Gothita. Yoshihime was the mother of Date Masamune and wed Date Terumune as he supported Hideyoshi in the power struggle from Nobunaga's death. She was known as the Demon Princess of Ōshū as she participated in many battles with her father, Mogami Yoshimori, daimyo of Dewa Province. Like most mothers, there's not much to talk about. Oh well!

Sheesh finally. Oichi evolves when she reaches 55% link with Jigglypuff or Wigglytuff, but you have to wait until after the main story to do this, like with every other Warlord aside from Azai. Bit annoying, but oh well, she looks cute af.

Mother bug! Swadloon evolves when it reaches 65% link.

Choan is now as perfect as I can make him. His time will come.

It's a lot of fun rolling over everything with strong Pokemon. Right, Amago Tsunehisa was a powerful daimyo who ruled over most of the Chūgoku region before Mōri Terumoto controlled the region. He fought against the Ōuchi clan to prevent Ōuchi Yoshioki from heading to Kyoto and rallied together the regional clans (Kokujin) to battle this powerful foe. Samurai from Iwami and Aki were caught in this conflict and one such samurai, Mōri Motonari, had to carefully negotiate between the two forces for his villages to survive. His eldest son, Amago Masahisa, died in battle and so he had to crush his third son, Amago Okihisa, to prevent the clan from being split in revolt for succession. He handed the clan over to Masahisa's eldest son, Amago Haruhisa, before he died, but feared he was too inexperienced for the role.

Murder buuuuuuuuug. Larvesta evolves when its Attack reaches 131, so it's a bit of a grind. But it is worth it, so we'll be having some fun in another story. Hopefully. Onward to the final month!

To see the annoyance that is the travelling merchant, please refer to the main update. This is the month we take on Dragnor, but there's still more to do, but finishing the story will, again, happen in the main update.

Gotokuhime was Nobunaga's eldest daughter and was quickly married to Tokugawa Noobuyasu, the eldest son of Ieyasu, when they were both 5 years old. She and Nobuyasa grew quite close, drawing the ire of Lady Tsukiyama, Ieyasu's wife. She was a jealous and contrary woman, making it difficult for Ieyasu to live with her. Since Gotokuhime only had two daughters, Tsukiyama took a daughter of a Takeda retainer for Nobuyasu's concubine. Gotokuhime retaliated by sending a letter to Nobunaga accusing Tsukiyama of conspiring with Takeda Katsuyori, one of Nobunaga's biggest enemies. He relayed this info to Ieyasu, who took his alliance with Nobunaga very seriously and imprisoned his wife. Since Nobuyasu was close to his mother, he was imprisoned also and Tsukiyama was executed, even though the accusation was probably false. To prevent Nobuyasu from seeking vengeance, Ieyasu ordered him to commit seppuku and Gotokuhime unwittingly became a widow due to the situation snowballing out of control.

Gothorita... It's weird--the feeling I have about you seems to have grown stronger... Do you get the same feeling? Okay! Let's stay friends, Gothorita.

This better just be a phase. Gothita evolves when its Defense reaches 70.

Grovyle evolves when its Speed reaches 118.

Well it doesn't have glorious locks, but it'll do. Flaaffy evolves when its Attack reaches 90.

Now that we've used Crobat in battle...

Crobat...? I feel an even greater strength than ever before... Do you feel it as well? Let's stay together, Crobat!

I was super happy I could show this off before the end of this story. Nene evolves when she reaches 60% link with Crobat, since you probably won't evolve her when she has Golbat as she only evolves when you've registered all 16 Poison types in this game into the Gallery. That's why I've been focusing on both them and Ghost types so much, since we might as well do it as early as we can. Do you Nō the other Warlord who evolves this way? Well, it'll be a surprise for later.

And that's it! We'll be defeating Dragnor and going over the end of the game in the main update, but we've done a lot. We evolved 15 Warlords in that space of time and got a lot of powerful Pokemon to make the rest of the postgame less completely tedious. You can have fun with this game in small chunks, this is on the DS after all, but I needed to do this to make the LP as smooth as possible. Back to the regular schedule.

Oh hey, here's an early Christmas present. It took a while making these 2 updates cause I suddenly realised I was incredibly bored while I recorded the rest of Hideyoshi's story, so I took a break, played Ultra Moon and just waited until I felt the LP urge. Well here we are and with all the really important stuff I did in the (optional to read) half update, we should be good to just finish the game from here.

This only further Cements Staraptor as the best of the route 1 birds.

Consider this a vote for Muneshige then.

No doubt. Thus, I have no choice but to vote for Muneshige from list 1. From list 2, I vote for Kai because Darmanitan is one of my favourite Pokemon and Ina just because.

Also yeah, evolving Warlords is a pain and another thing that would've needed a heavy overhaul for a second game, had it happened.

Alright guys, I think I'm gonna shake up how this LP is gonna go moving onward.

While getting the 400 or so images for Ieyasu's story, I was only really focusing on what I needed to show and what in the footage I can just skip over with little consequence. Most of that ended up being the same tired fights we've done in the kingdoms a couple times before with nothing new happening and I mainly took images of all the overworld goings on. And I kinda wondered why I was bothering to show all of this is so much detail. What difference does it make if I show off all the little details in Ieyasu's story in 400 or so images instead of blowing through 10 stories in a single update and showing all the cool highlights. Like, which is actually going to be more interesting both for you reading and for me recording and making these updates? I think I know the answer and what I'm gonna do.

Cause this postgame is pretty repetitive and pretty uninteresting to do little by little, so I'm not going to bother, I'm gonna blow through a good chunk of the stories, focus on the ones you've voted for and then go into detail for the final story to end the LP. This will also stop me from dying of boredom and actually finishing the LP, cause wow these past 2 updates have been super uninteresting to make and I think I'm going at this all wrong. So if you guys don't mind waiting a bit, I'll be back with an update next year going through around 10 or so stories.

Show us the cinematic highlight reel of the 10 stories!

I ran into a similar issue early on in my LP. There's only so many ways to show off a battle, and so few battles have anything interesting going on in them. Just showing the highlights of the game is easier on you and less boring for us.

I completely agree with that method, mostly because the postgame is pretty repetitive and you're already too far in to stop, so you may as well make it as painless for yourself as possible. It'll be more entertaining to read too.

VOTES SO FAR

List One
Muneshige: 5
Nō: 2
Ujiyasu: 2 [I completely forgot to add him, so he gets auto 2nd place to be fair]
Motochika: 2 [I completely forgot to add him, so he gets auto 2nd place to be fair. I am good at making polls]
Nene: 2
Yoshihiro: 1
Motonari: 0

List Two
Gracia: 4
Ina: 3
Hanbei: 3
Kai: 2
Kanbei: 1
Magoichi: 1
Hanzō: 1
Oichi: 1
Aya: 0
Kunoichi: 0

The stories I won't be showing, but will be completing to reach the final scenario are Munishige, Motonari, Motochika, Ujiyasu, Nō, Yoshihiro and Nene.

The stories I will be ignoring completely and not going anywhere near are Hanbei, Kanbei, Tadakatsu, Ina, Hanzō, Aya, Gracia, Magoichi, Kunoichi, Kai and Oichi.

VOTE FOR ONE FROM THE FIRST LIST AND TWO FROM THE SECOND LIST FOR ME TO COVER. All the other stories will get nary a mention in the LP proper, so their fate is in your hands.

Wait, why does Psystrike point out it deals physical damage in a game where there's no split between Defense and Special Defense? Did they just copy the text from BW? Because that's the only explanation I can find.

Actually, how the hell is Mewtwo even in Feudal Japan? I guess that's just not something I should bother to ask...maybe Dialga brought it there or something, I dunno. Whatever.

These stories are super repetitive and I don't blame you for cheating that hard, Crosspeice. You're doing Arceus' work merely showing them to us.

I'm not surprised. In the Warriors games Tadakatsu is more or less Japan's answer to Lu Bu, so it makes sense he'd have the more important legendary of the lot.

It does kind of seem silly. Your underling gets something that can control Time, while you just get...a walking hunk of steel. Woooo.

Also did Nobunaga need to refer to himself in the 3rd person constantly or was that more of a quirk of the translation?

It's probably their attempt to translate Nobunaga using very formal pronouns for himself, or even Ore Sama.

It's probably a joke referencing the fact that her name is literally "Female Ninja" and is something female gamers use as gamertags a lot.

I think the "royal we" would probably be a better way to translate that. It could just be that he always speaks in third person in Japanese, which AFAIK isn't that odd (unusual, yes, but not nearly as odd as it sounds in English), and is also kind of hard to translate.

It does sort of look like that, but it seems pretty out of place if that's the case. And considering it's at the beginning of the line, where Crosspiece has been putting the character portraits, it looks like a case of forgotten brackets or something rather than some sort of Internet in-joke.
