The first number is a country code that indicates I'm from the USA (#1 suck it, commies) Then there are three digits that represent the city I lived in when I was 12 and my parents got a family plan. Then three digits that represent the cell carrier my parents chose at that time. Each carrier has a few dozen of these to use as needed within the area code. Then a four-digit identifier that's just a few off from my mom's. If you've got a landline, then the second three-digit group is usually just a more specific region code within the first. If you live in a different country, then the format changes.
