Not that kind you loving pervert. I just got like hundreds of dollars of hardwood boards (late hemlock, ash, and something that may be elm) and the only catch was I had to go through and individually cut the end of each board due to staples. This, my goony friends, is a wood-workers dream come true. I know not a single one of you cares but, gently caress it, I'm elated. Tomorrow some damned furniture is gettin' made. I may even update this thread as I pour my heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into pieces that I sell for near nothing to people who don't even know what joinery means. It should be fun. Okay, pictures. So here is that stack from the side. You can see it's like six layers deep: From the front you'll notice that I got a huge variety of board sizes. Smallest board I've measured is roughly 2.5', longest is about 6.5': Just a couple of boards that look nice: This is most likely Ash, the change in color is the transition between young (soft) wood and old (hard) wood. Found some oak in the mix: And for other woodworking nerds, my tools for a job such as the one I am about to undertake: Not pictured is the box plane I'll use to smoothe the boards a bit. I'll update when I have some nice, ready to work, wood. Literally A Person fucked around with this message at 17:33 on Jan 16, 2018 |

That's some nice looking wood dude! I got a nice stash of mahogany "scraps" a few years ago for free from a in-law. A couple hundred bf of material, but mostly small bits. Used it for a lot of in-lay; end tables, picture frames and such. Almost used it all up now. There's a few specialty mills in the region, half day drives I've been thinking of visiting. Had not even thought of checking Craigslist, cause apparently I'm a huge idiot. Would love to see what you come up with. Always looking to steal other woodworker's ideas.

Yes, with either fancy or non-fancy joints. Fancy is like dovetails and hidden joints. Non-fancy is like butt joints and miter joints.

I got a huge stock of pallet blocking that was all White Oak and Maple. All of the wood was clear (no knots), but it did have nails that I had to pull. It was short lengths it was great for small projects. I once got a hold of a pallet made of perfect 3/4" Baltic Birch. I made 2 very nice boxes out of it. One for each of my daughters. There's wood to be had if you keep your eyes open (and work in a warehouse).

They have to be strong to hold all of that product and get whipped around by forklifts. poo poo is the real deal. And you usually get a good mix of different wood because companies repair them sometimes mismatching boards depending on what they have at hand.

I got one of those japanese saws as a gift. It was like giving a Mercedes to a guy that drives dirty pickup trucks. It is pretty sweet. I only use it for flush cut-offs, a god drat shame, but too lazy to spend the time needed to learn using it well. The picture looked a bit stock photo. I just wanted to compliment someone on the quality of their wood. Still, always fun to see what other people are doing.

Yeah I bet. Most of what I do is framing stuff to hold drywall. I once thought I'd be a purist but hot drat is it ever quicker and easier to make 90s and mitres with my lovely Ryobi. If I ever have the time to piss around with actual quality wood I'll do it.

ah poo poo, I just remembered a wood working thing! I live near a huge lake, it collects a lot of driftwood, and it all gets gathered up and corralled over the year at one end of the lake. In the winter and early spring, the lake level is low, and that huge area, a couple acres is covered in mostly accessible drift wood. I went there once without any real plans, and found some good pieces of old docks, and twisted tree limbs that had been weathered hard for a few years. I need to go back out there, grab some stuff and take some pics too. Good times.
