If you are on the internet often, you know about Net Neutrality, the government rule that if you are an Internet Service Provider (ISP) you can't make your users pay extra for special access so that their favorite porn sites don't buffer.

Trump FCC appointee Ajit Pai decided to get rid of the rule. :(

But! It turns out there is a rule that the US Senate can override the FCC and put the rule back!

https://twitter.com/brianschatz/status/953240919423119360

Here is a list of the 50 US Senators who have not yet agreed to vote to restore Net Neutrality:

Shelby, Richard C. (R-AL)
Murkowski, Lisa (R-AK)
Sullivan, Dan (R-AK)
Flake, Jeff (R-AZ)
McCain, John (R-AZ)
Boozman, John (R-AR)
Cotton, Tom (R-AR)
Gardner, Cory (R-CO)
Rubio, Marco (R-FL)
Isakson, Johnny (R-GA)
Perdue, David (R-GA)
Crapo, Mike (R-ID)
Risch, James E. (R-ID)
Young, Todd (R-IN)
Ernst, Joni (R-IA)
Grassley, Chuck (R-IA)
Moran, Jerry (R-KS)
Roberts, Pat (R-KS)
McConnell, Mitch (R-KY)
Paul, Rand (R-KY)
Cassidy, Bill (R-LA)
Kennedy, John (R-LA)
Cochran, Thad (R-MS)
Wicker, Roger F. (R-MS)
Blunt, Roy (R-MO)
Daines, Steve (R-MT)
Fischer, Deb (R-NE)
Sasse, Ben (R-NE)
Heller, Dean (R-NV)
Burr, Richard (R-NC)
Tillis, Thom (R-NC)
Hoeven, John (R-ND)
Portman, Rob (R-OH)
Inhofe, James M. (R-OK)
Lankford, James (R-OK)
Toomey, Patrick J. (R-PA)
Graham, Lindsey (R-SC)
Scott, Tim (R-SC)
Rounds, Mike (R-SD)
Thune, John (R-SD)
Alexander, Lamar (R-TN)

Lee, Mike (R-UT)
Capito, Shelley Moore (R-WV)

Unless your call involves offering them a lot of money it is not going to change their minds. Look up any of these people. They've proven your thoughts and concerns don't matter to them a hundred times over.

I'm sorry but your plan is already doomed to failure for you see the moment "net neutrality" ended, myself and millions of others across the globe died instantly.

The event was ironically called "The Great Neutralization".

Net Neutrality is good for small businesses, and also for giant internet businesses that aren't ISPs. There should be plenty of monetary interest for any Republican.

Surely at least one person on the list of 50 is not owned by Comcast and Verizon.

They'll act if they think it hurts their chances of getting re-elected not to but I don't know how true that is for most of these dudes.

Always remember that the former President was dumber than the dumbest person you've ever met by a wide margin

I called Pat Toomey, got an intern who definitely has fielded about 500 calls like this, and then asked when Toomey was going to be back in the office.

"We don't know." That's been every single interaction I've had with my senator since I started calling this year to try and save healthcare and prevent the tax change.

In short, gently caress Pat Toomey in general and I can't wait until he's revealed to be cheating on his wife with a donkey, or whatever the current Republican thing to do is.

You literally can't call your senator. It isn't a real thing. If you look hard you might find a number to call or an address to write to, but they won't actually return your call or read your letter. The senator themselves probably doesn't even receive notification of that attempt to communicate with them: it will be filtered out like spam. Assuming you aren't somebody special.

They do care in that they want to be re-elected but they don't actually care what you think. They care about what 50%+ of likely voters in their state think. Even then it won't stop them necessarily, if they think they can spin it so that it doesn't hurt their re-election chances.

Call-ins aren't really much of a poll, at least if you write a letter they might quote it when they're grandstanding about what they were already gonna do. If you care enough to want your senator to count you as a number, but not more than that, get an EFF membership or something so your number is attached to an effort-worthy bloc of voters with a coherent set of desires who there's any reason to expect might actually turn out every couple years to check a box.

I was a press intern and just looked at new clippings each morning. A few times they let me write an actual letter back to people.

Really though, Important work like blowing off constituents with lip service was the job of legislative correspondents.
