Yes, I just completed the main game and have been going through collectibles and b sides. I don’t have a huge amount of video game experience so it has been a bit difficult, especially since I have been trying to minimize spoilers. It has been a lot of fun though.

That's awesome, congratulations on scaling the peak! I'll not spoil anything but I think you should know that some of Celeste's deepest secrets (as in, not the strawberries) are very well hidden. In particular, one requires knowledge from another (very well known) game. I say this only so you don't frustrate yourself too much and feel okay about looking up a solution. Enjoy the post game!

At one point in development that vertical shaft did have a secret at the top the crystal heart but it eventually was removed with the shaft left with the intent that it would subtly teach players about the limit of climb stamina.

If you’re talking about the dash reset during screen transitions yeah I had to look that up. It is fun but feels immersion breaking. Right now I have entered the core using 4 hearts as keys and have no bloody clue how to proceed, since I can’t figure out getting past the new face block. I figure I’ll try going the more B sides as I get to them, right now my project is heart and b side in hotel.

I think what I like the most about this game is how fair it is. It asks you to do hard things for the sake of doing them, and there are multiple things you can do post game to improve your skill that also give you rewards that give a sense of progress. So many of the platformers I have seen demand precision and leave only one possible way to do a screen, but Celeste is built to reward skill with speed and flow. The slower paths build your skills until you can start skipping things or saving falls you couldn’t before. And this is all without looking up any fancy speedrunning style tech which I am positive exists.

Incoherence posted:I think the thing Party Boat is talking about is a different crystal heart (chapter 4). Yup, do not feel bad about looking this one up. Some of the (much later) levels do start to require more advanced movement tech but the game is pretty explicit when introducing a new move.

No claws yet but I pay attention to how my hands feel and take appropriate breaks. I reached the crystal on 4 and was frustrated since I had tried interacting with the block by pressing down because I thought it might be a weird non-dash button but hadn’t pressed down for long enough But I am still feeling good about this video game because I consume a lot of video game related media but I don’t actually play them much since I don’t feel very skilled with them. It feels good to play a game where I don’t hit a skill wall and become unable to progress.

Celeste report: I got all the key gems during ascension but then immediately beelined to the summit instead of the heart unlock area.

Core is still a pain but given the kerfuffle I really want to see farewell. I haven’t stayed quite as spoiler free as I wished because I also have a need to know if things are impossible or not. I have also watched bsides of windy heights and escort temple because I know the mechanics in those drive me batty. My attempts to use AI to give me subtle hints have largely met with failure, probably because most game faq content is in video format now, but it does give plausible sounding answers at least. It came up with a cool mirror based puzzle idea for the temple involving block pushing, but that would have been cooler if it weren’t telling me that was actually in the game and necessary for me to do.

Oof, 3D platforming is tough! Although admittedly things did get a chunk easier once I discovered the climb button. I think the sheer wall at the start is supposed to teach you that rather than being an awkwardly precise wall-jump-dash challenge right at the start. Cute to get an update to Madeline's story too. I wonder what her relationship with Theo's sister is like.

Downloaded Strawberry Jam after seeing a run during AGDQ that piqued my interest. I should have been playing modded Celeste years ago! The beginner and intermediate lobbies were great experiences, though the intermediate heartside really kicked my rear end (over 2k deaths; forced me to buy a better controller with a more consistent d-pad). Advanced lobby is extremely hard so far but I'm having a good time.

Celeste report: pro controller continues to murder me with diagonal dashes. I have done the first few screens of farewell before doubling back for the rest of the b sides. I have cleared all the summit flags and now only the blue and pink blinkies stand between me and the 7b heart. I have not done the windy gulch b side yet though and I am dreading it more than the summit. I suspect that I will purchase the game on pc soon if only to be able to play it on keyboard, to say nothing of the mods. Practice mods sound like a great idea to me especially for the more advanced techniques.

It’s worth trying the joy cons too if you’re on Switch. They’re not the most ergonomic device ever invented, but you can be very precise with them. I prefer them to the pro controller.

Hi I picked up this game a couple days ago, never really been into platformers except some of the more well known metroidvania games, surprisingly kind of enjoyed the challenging platforming parts so thought I'd try a game more focused around that. I'm being very patient and mostly having a good time with it (though don't ask me how many deaths I have) Chapter 4 secret I never played Mario 3 but through cultural osmosis of spending too much time reading about video games on the internet had somehow heard of the white blocks that let you enter the background. Anyway I just had a quick question for the thread, I'm in the middle chapter of 7 and while replaying an earlier one of the I found a blue square gem, I suspected it's part of a crystal heart and quick looking it up confirms it. (found the star also). Just wondering, I don't have to pick up all of the different gems for the crystal heart in one go or anything right? Assuming I can just replay just certain checkpoints to look for them and they'll still count much like strawberries.

You can pick them up in as many separate plays as you like - once you have one of them, you have it forever.
