I'm sure everyone remembers Operation Genesis, right? Well, we're finally getting a successor and it's by Frontier... the Planet Coaster dudes(hopefully the management side of things is better)! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWagBjDMwTU Basically, you build a park with dinosaurs in it and manage it as best you can until everything inevitably goes to poo poo and your visitors all get brutally murdered. The cool thing is that the devs have access to Universal Studios' actual dino models and what you see in the game are the same dinosaur models you see in the films so it's definitely going to be a looker! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQAY5iLgUVo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxoqj0SdDn8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSXvd1wmNM4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9jthRYMc7Q https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_World_Evolution https://store.steampowered.com/app/648350/Jurassic_World_Evolution/ https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-03-29-jurassic-world-evolution-finds-a-way-to-be-refreshingly-different http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2018/03/29/new-gameplay-today-jurassic-world-evolution.aspx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3XcpKPOmp0

cool. they are locking 5 dinos behind a deluxe edition.

Yeah, probably the one really lovely thing about the game is that we'll get Dino DLC but it's only 5 extra dollars for the deluxe edition so that could be indicative of future prices in which case I can totally deal.

I'm trying to finish up some other games so that I have time to play this. It looks incredible and it's both cool & weird that Jeff Goldblum has now attained Christopher Walken status in our lifetimes.

My only worry is like you say; the devs went like 90% parkbuilding/10% management for Planet Coaster, so I really hope that split gets a little bit more even in this one. That said if the reviews say they have I'll be there day #1 building a big TY-rex paddock in the shape of a steak.

I think its more that planet coaster was kind of 'meh' on the actual game side of things(and honestly that seems to also show through in their other games, like elite: dangerous) so people aren't really getting their hopes up. It looks cool, but I'll wait until after reviews and some nice gameplay videos before I decide whether or not to buy it.

Fair enough, I am pretty worried about the game's longevity... especially if the park management side of things takes a backseat. But, the novelty of oogling pretty dinosaurs and doing chaos containment should be able to tide me over for a while.

Realtalk the game should let you air-drop genetically modified dinosaur soldiers into super secret black ops behind enemy lines and watch the war crimes unfold

I just hope it has more on the park design side than Operation Genesis did, the near-complete lack thereof was probably that game's single biggest flaw.

I wonder if they'll follow this up with a zoo expansion to planet coaster, since they'll have most of what they need done.

Though...Deakul posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VLEy9Kz6js Wow, I already hate the security guy. "Hey doc, shut the gently caress up with your complaining, we're busy keeping you safe (trying to contain a breach we deliberately caused)." What an obnoxious, stupidly-evil-for-the-sake-of-it rear end in a top hat. I always try to play these sorts of things like a good person (for "real" attempts; obviously I gently caress around in runs meant for it or after backing up a save), but I kind of want to do something to kill him specifically if I get this.

Is anyone else a little concerned about all the effort being put into mini-games? Like the first person shooter, vehicle racing, "weaponized dinosaurs", even a wildlife photography mini-game... I'm worried that modding will suck (all the best games ever made had great modding support) Hopefully they don't forget to make a tycoon game in the rush for more gimmicks, merchandise, and DLC. I really want this to not suck

Although im sure most of the mods will be adding penis's and tits to everything like all mods spiral down to. they updated the images on the store page so here's one of the indom https://imgur.com/a/UnEjpW6 The Croc fucked around with this message at 13:07 on Jun 7, 2018 |

Those features were all in JPOG, weaponized dinosaurs isn't really a minigame... just a possible route to go. Hardly a massive focus, they're just features you'd expect to be in a zoo tycoon game where all of the attractions can kill you.

Those science, entertainment, and military objectives look like a really neat improvement over JPOG. The idea of making super soldier dinos sounds like it will be goofy fun too.

Captain Postal posted:Is anyone else a little concerned about all the effort being put into mini-games? Like the first person shooter, vehicle racing, "weaponized dinosaurs", even a wildlife photography mini-game... I think it'd be smart at this point to moderate your expectations for JWE. While there's going to be more management than PC from what we've seen, there's still only going to be so much. The dinosaurs are the star of the show, and having them get out of hand because of weather, sabotage and whatever else is the main focus. The game seems primarily focused on delivering cool Jurassic Park moments, rather than being a full top down management sim, but there's still RCT1/2 levels of management going on, and maybe even a bit more than that, so if you liked JPOG you should be right at home here.

One thing I hope they approve on is weather emergencies because the way JPOG did it was super janky, especially the fact that the cleaner staff didn't go into the shelters so they tended to get killed unless you fired them.

From my understanding there's no physical menial staff you hire there's staff tied to buildings only. You can build storm/dino rampage shelters which you open when a storm hits and all your guests hustle off into them before they get murderized. I think the game will be cool and they seem to have done a great job with the dino's and i have high hopes they'll improve the game as they go along each gameplay build has seem massive improvements. I think they're having to get the game out now to match upto fallen kingdoms release and so its just been a case of getting something that works and then maybe filling in some of the cut corners later.

None of the preserved tyrannosaurid skin imprints showed any sign of them, for example. Kinda like a lot of the biggest current day mammals in warmer climates don't have fur coats. Others like the velociraptor probably did, but really it's just that this is a Jurassic Park game so the Dinos are gonna look like they did in Jurassic Park.
