My mom finally got her citizenship so she could vote for Obama. It's hard to remember a time when at least some people could talk about getting citizenship with pride and happiness, as opposed to relief at no longer having to fear unreasonable deportation (for now). This poo poo is just so gross and contemptible.

Jesus, I realized that all this deportation poo poo isn't happening purely because Trump is a smooth brain pushing openly horrible policies. It's happening also because these agencies are staffed with a critical mass of people who see the new directives, crack their knuckles and go bout time let's git er done *spits* instead of playing super compliance hardball with the orders or other borderline or actual civil disobedience to flagrantly unamerican demands.

I remember I used to get nonstop Facebook ads for "government jobs for vets" that featured a picture of a guy in full gear kicking in a door. While I'm sure all those ads were scams, I have no doubt a whole lot of those agencies are full of dudes who furiously mashed every one of those things.

I view it as the same reason as most prosecutors being assholes who don't have anywhere near enough concern about their own fallibility. You don't do a job like that (or at least you don't stay or succeed) unless you're on board with the mission statement. Similar to prison guards too, IMO. And of course, if there IS a job where you get paid to be a dickhead to minorities, chances are good that a lot of people who will view that as a perk will flock to that job. Part of the reason I'm so skeptical of the idea that ICE will be okay with different people up top. That won't change who staffs it, and THEY are the problem.

On the prison guard thing, you're pretty much right. My brother's a guard at a federal place and nearly all of his coworkers are complete pieces of poo poo. He was too for a little while, but somehow he came out the other end after seeing what the inmates put up with and how the other guards act, and now he's in favor of criminal justice reform. Come to think of it, I need to find out if he heard about the pay freeze, because he was already thinking of quitting.

Small-town Texas is going to have a hard time when things turn purple/blue. Hell, barely more than a decade ago my wife remembers majority-minority high school teams having police escorts when playing away games in East Texas. Klan rallies are a recent memory. Compared to my childhood in cow country, CA it is nuts.

Shard, glass, ice, crystal are pretty standard for meth. Shatter is hash that cooled into a monocrystallic hardened form after extraction, wax cools as polycrystallic, usually from excess butane bubbling off or inconsistent cooling.
