I finished the show a while a go and just wanna say it was a blast, my favorite DND podcast for sure. I wish more characters could be like Hardwon, Motherfucker never second guessed himself for a second so decisive. Moonshine was great too, although she might've questioned herself a little too much. Beverly was really good too, but he was my least favorite. Don't know why but his arc just didn't hit as hard, maybe just too much vacillating between teen orders.

Murphy did a great job wrangling those fools into make some great, really fun and emotional content.

I'm not gonna lie mavrus and tonathon were the only guests I liked, dead eye was cool in a super overpowered way too I guess, he felt a little to connected though.

Listening to 8bit book club is so weird after this whole series. It's funny as hell but I keep expecting jake to chime in a just slay me with a bit. Realizing murph stole all half his name's from a warcraft book is loving hilarious though

Is this really how it is? They expect me to wait an entire week for a new episode.

I'm not gonna lie. They were making it seem like jakes lad was a miserable dude but he kinda seems like he's got it made with the baron.

I was a bit worried the second season wouldn't hit the same groove the first did, but goddammit are they doin it. Murph is a gem of a DM and I wouldn't change the players for the world, except to add Zac. My only problem is I came into NADDPOD when it was already at 97 episodes so I've never had to wait a week before, It's killing me.

I'm loving lou, but them having to take off so many episodes for the holidays and for caldwell's son's birth has kinda killed a bit of the momentum for me. Hopefully once we get to the second arc it'll be a bit more smooth sailing.

Gaius Marius

I really hope Murphs got something up his sleeve as a twist, as cool as Elderborne seems I'm not wiled about it having another theocrat as the big bad.

Lou's absolutely killing it though, dudes rocketed straight to number two guest right below Mavris. Motherfucker took his dude and rolled with it straight to greatness

Gaius Marius
Oct 9, 2012

I'm kind of scared for the other two though, it would be weird for Emily and Jake to be playing two people, so I'm worried they're gonna bite it and Jabari's gonna be a guest with the main crew. Although that'd be dope as hell.

I'm still not really seeing the difference between Murph handling Balnor along with pretty much everyone else, including one or two fairly well defined villains or supporting characters pretty much every arc, and a player having it to do it with two characters for maybe a handful of episodes at most. It's also not like they would have to refresh themselves on the characters in this case, since both characters are going to be relatively fresh unless Murph waits a year or two to have them meet and there are no Hexbud episodes in the meantime.

It's sort of a different mindset when you're the DM. The DM isn't really the one in control, they're merely reacting to the choices of the PC's. The PC's are expected to inhabit their character's during the session, trying to manage multiple character's with different knowledge, opinions, and skill sets are very difficult.

Gaius Marius

I still have no idea who he is but he was a killer guest. I've got a feeling Emily and jakes characters would've fallen flat without him to bring the heat.

The arc did end pretty interestingly too. Glad it's already getting a little more grey than it was previous.

That said, while Emily and Jake's characters aren't as immediately fun I think they are good enough as improvisers and players in general that they'd have found a way to bring comic legs out regardless of who the third person they were paired up with was. It happened to be Lou in this case, but I can't imagine they wouldn't have found a way to tease out some comedy if it was someone else and their characters are basically setup for it. Emily's most obviously, given that she started out with several hooks for comedy such as being part of a cult believing in a local grifter styling himself as the son of God etc.
Yeah I think they're both good roleplayers who would've got good, but Jake especially needs time to find his feet and I think Jabari coming out so hard let him get on solid ground a lot faster than usually. Personally he's my favorite but it took him awhile to get the hang of his guy in the Main Campaign and Hot Boy summer, and honestly I never like Nyaack, but that could be because Murph was loving killing Trinyvale with Jens

Gaius Marius
Oct 9, 2012

I'll be truthful, I never finished Trinyvale and a lot of that is that I found Nyack dull, and Emily's character only okay. The only time Nyack got a good chuckle outta me is when he finally admitted all of Jens porn was his.

I feel that, It's like everyone was on that Paw Paw train and wanted their own track, Bookvar is whatever, Shank is really not that overused except in combat. Spritle just feels a step too far, he doesn't do anything except take up dialogue time. I would be fine if they took a trip.

Gaius Marius

Finally got current again, I kind of appreciate the mountain climbing. Low level fights in DND are usually kind of boring, and conversely it becomes a lot harder to have basic physical challenges when the PC's can teleport or shapeshift and what not, I like seeing another challenge for them while they still can.

I don 't remember either, but either way, Caldwell himself has always seemed to view goofiness as a higher priority than intelligent play. He outright stated in one of the Short Rests in the last few weeks that he sees Zerk/Eldermourne as someplace where he can take out all the silliness that he has to bottle up during the week as a responsible father too, and I doubt he came into that mindset with no foundation once he had a kid. So he probably held it to some degree all along. Plus, even when he was laying out what he wanted to do I recall it being quite obvious that Caldwell knew it was a bad idea and that Zerk would get screwed over somehow for doing it, but he just wanted to do it anyway.

I don't really have a problem with it, it was pretty drat funny, but if I did have a problem it would be with the roleplaying. It seems odd to me that someone whose supposed to be able to judge and analyze a crowd would fall victim to such naivety

God how can they managed to make such beautiful characters. I had my doubts about this sort of collaborative storytelling but I've never seen anything as really and truly beautiful, in film, tv, or novels, to think that something as genius as spoony could ever exist. What a magnificent world

I wasn’t a big fan of the latest episode. It seems like they’re rapidly accelerating to the finale, and instead of gradually revealing a lot of these plot twists and revelations, they were just thrown out in a big plot-dump. Instead of telling us Irina and Moxora are sisters, show that. Instead of telling us they the gods dipped out, show us. It also seemed convenient that Zirk managed to find the formula he had been looking for in a random book.

yeah the pacing feels all over the place. they've barely just become blades, and now it's feeling pre endgame? I know they wanted a shorter campaign but we'd still be in Frost wind in the Bahumian arc.

Some of the character work has also felt a little forced. Caldwell, the one who struggles most with defining his character, ended up really going around with his mom in his arc. The Henry stuff has been pretty slight comparatively but worked well, especially Zerk loving up and letting his sons real name slip, but Murphy coming right out and saying his ex-wife wasn't a good person felt strange.

And I honestly struggle to give a poo poo about Irina or bookvar or most of Fias support squad.

I'm also not wild about the cosmology of the world.

Really hosed up they decided to do half the episode in a language the listeners can't speak. I know shows these days things are all about "Atmosphere", but that shouldn't come at the cost of alienating the audience. This is a huge miss on their part.
