https://twitter.com/Cut4/status/1144352097758064653?s=19 Happy Bobby Bonilla Day! quote:From 1992 to 1994, Bonilla was the highest-paid player in the major leagues, earning more than $6 million per year. Since 2009, he has been paid approximately $1.19 million by the New York Mets each year and is the poster boy for the mutually beneficial practice among major league teams for deferring contractual payments until well after the player has retired. The payments come every July 1, which some media members refer to as "Bobby Bonilla Day". This was part of a deal made when the Mets released Bonilla before the 2000 season while still owing him $5.9 million for the final year of his contract. The deal expires in 2035, at which point Bonilla will have been paid $29.8 million for a season in which he did not even play for the Mets. In addition to Bonilla Day, the Braves are still paying Bruce Sutter. Also, the Reds are still paying Ken Griffey Jr. Here's an article about deferred money. https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2015/07/01/bobby-bonillas-isnt-the-only-deferred-money-deal-in-the-game-and-isnt-even-the-worst/ Note: Sutter essentially signed a 36-year, $44 million contract in 1985. Stealing Signs: there's an app for that Video not particularly interesting but the app looks like something cool to take to the park. Boston got popped for using tech to steal signs but I don't recall any penalty. Astros have a rep for stealing signs and there may be an element of truth to it, but I suspect they encourage it just to gently caress with the battery. Happy Bonilla Day! Don't spend it all in one place Bobby!

I get mad every time Lucas Duda plays professional baseball. Chris Davis is like about as bad as Lucas Duda, but is making a zillion times more money. That would be hard for both me and for Chris Davis if he were on my team.

Good on Davis for getting that money, but man, I truly feel bad for him. He has actually gotten worse as the season has dragged on, which is a remarkable feat considering he didn't get a hit until mid-April.

C is for cubsposting? Don't mind if I do: https://twitter.com/GDubCub/status/1145463865951629313 Javy hurt his heel over a month ago. It sounded like he might hit the IL but instead he just took a couple days off the went back into the lineup. Since then he's been good, but certainly not as good as he was last year or this year prior to the injury. Now he might back out of the HRD because it's still bothering him Really getting sick of the Cubs' refusal to use the IL for key position players.
