For the last several decades, Emperors have systematically chosen their heir via adoption - but the Empress peramene Aurelius (Imperator Augusta), in her infinite wisdom, saw fit to adopt SIX heirs from the most prestigious of Roman families. For the first time in modern memory, the heir is not apparent, and each heir has an equal claim to the throne. The Empress' only guidance on which of her six Caesars should follow her? The strongest.

The time has come - a year of bad posting has finally taken its toll, and our beloved Empress has fallen deathly ill!

In the name of the Empress, these six Caesars must now stamp their feet, muster their supporters, and engage in a Conquest of the Empire.

---

Conquest Of The Empire is a Roleplaying Strategy Wargame for six Caesars and their allies. There are only six Caesar player slots at the beginning of the game, and only very serious players should consider playing as a Caesar. It is a substantial commitment for an extended-and-unknown period of time, and other players will be counting on you - after all, they support your rule. If your Caesar is lost in battle, so are you, and so is your claim to the throne.

There’s also room for as many as thirty-six generals, whose play is delegated to them by the Caesar to whom they’ve sworn fealty. The way generals play allows for a much looser commitment - merely having the unit named after you, advising your Caesar, or being entrusted with the command of one of your Caesar’s legions.

There’s also room for Champions, noncommissioned officers within the legions. These players can roleplay as individual combat units on the board but do not take any action within the strategy game. These individual units will always have a survival advantage that does not impact play, but does impact narrative -- and obviously, Champions can and will die.

Each forum user is only allowed to play as one role at a time and is encouraged to stick to one role for the entire game, but play may necessitate or allow for the elevation of a unit. There’s a romance to the idea of entering the game as a Champion and being elevated to a General or (Gods forbid) a Caesar, but hopefully, this isn’t the sort of thing that happens.

Additionally, due to the nature of the game, we simply can’t allow for changing allegiances at any point in the game. If you play a second character, your allegiance will only ever be to the same Caesar.

Please feel free to and do ask any questions you might have. You can find the player's handbook below. These rules are subject to change between now and gamestart!

Bah, wars of ideals wear out their welcome by inauguration day. Wars won off coin... now those last for an age or two.

Pick me as your General and I'll never take sabbatical,
We'll sever the heads of all those pretenders aristocratical,
There will never be a moment to fear of my mortality,
