   Decided to wander up to the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument since I've done most of the bigger elevation gain hikes in San Diego. Got a bunch of stuff to do now when I can't do the desert rat stuff.

Went out to Elephant benchmark in Anza Borrego Desert State Park last weekend and saw some Elephant trees and lots of rocks Elephant tree   Salton Sea from the benchmark  Carrizo Badlands from the benchmark  The way down and out

A nice little park in Western Iowa I go to often cause it's one of 2 outdoor hikes close to Omaha... 2 photos in the same area taken about 6 weeks apart... and after some prescribed burns.

This was just a day hike rim to river and back, but Bright Angel is closed for water pipe construction so it was down and up South Kaibab. I made great time, starting at 7am and getting back to the sign at 2:30. I didn't waste much time at Phantom Ranch this time; got a lemonade and ate some snacks, cleaned my feet, and got back moving. I previously ran R2R2R in a day and then hiked it with a night's camp at Cottonwood in the corridor, so this was the easiest overall but going up SK without much rest was definitely a struggle and it all caught up to me the next day with cramps and pain. Worth it though, SK is my absolute favorite trail. I saw some outrageously unprepared people well below the rim, including a woman in dress shoes and long jean skirt carrying only a small 16oz water bottle. I saw a man carrying the largest pack of the day at the Tip Off barely moving, with ~4.5 miles to go to the rim. Wonder how they fared. Pretty small compared to y'all's photos, but today after work, I tracked down an old smoke spot a couple hundred feet off my university's nature trail that someone mentioned on Reddit a couple years ago.   I don't smoke, but it was a neat little area, and I really want to start exploring that nature trail more. Gives me something to do other than wither away in my dorm room.
