They seriously think a sub 100 watt (hell, mostly sub 10 watt) 5g tower hundreds or thousands of feet away with a 60+ degree beam pattern is "causing covid" by burning up the o2 molecules in the air so you can't breath, because 5g = 60ghz which is the resonant frequency of o2 molecules.

I dunno where I stand on rent. Excessive rent is just loving evil, and as far as I'm concerned, it's highly excessive in many areas even at market rate. When I go to move, I've debated either renting it at what I feel is a reasonable rate to someone who needs a leg up, or renting at market rate but putting the extra into an interest bearing account as a buffer in case they can't pay at some point, and either giving it back to help with a down payment when they leave, or offering to cut the entire amount they paid in rent (minus actual maintenance costs) off the asking price if they want to buy the place. I hate the very idea of being a landlord, but if I can't find a buyer at a good price... I'll be damned if I let a decent house sit empty when there are unhoused people.

I was lucky, my landlord before I bought my place was pretty reasonable and also let me do repairs and improvements and take it out of the rent. I know I was basically working for free, but it was cheaper than going to every trade school to learn, and good practice for the house I've got now.

I don't think I paid over 500 for any one rectangular flat window in my house for comparison sake. If you want I can get a list of sizes and prices I paid together. I think most were in the 200-300 range and that was for fairly large windows.

So I work at a nice university in the UK. Term is due to start in like 2 weeks and we still don't know what sort of teaching is going to be happening here. We seem to be going for a hybrid in person/recorded set up with massively reduced capacity in teaching spaces. We have a 500 seater lecture theatre which is down to 43 usable seats going by standard 2m social distancing regulations. Other rooms have been basically reduced to tiny groups and they're going to put queuing systems in places that weave in and out of the buildings. Around campus dudes have been putting stickers on the floors and walls turning buildings and walkways into a one way system, we're enforcing masks indoors.

Oh and as mentioned term hasn't started yet and there's virtually nobody on campus but there's an entire building of students who have the 'rona already so things are going to be great. :allears:

It's airborne for hours indoors unless the HVAC has really good filters and does a ton of air changes per hour, and the 6 foot rule is a bare minimum for when you can't employ more effective methods, which everyone seems to have forgotten. Meant to reply to this yesterday,
Where does one even buy the windows? Is that a home store/builder supply item? I've honestly never looked. I would need specific remodel windows, since I have a brick facade, so cant use the original style flanged attachment, and of course, out of 10 windows, there's probably 6 different sizes (if not 10...)
Being able to do them a few at a time would be nice for the wallet.

100% of mine have come from home depot. You go to the millwork desk with detailed dimensions of every rough opening you need a window for (if you're replacing the whole unit, if you're only replacing the old single pane window you can usually get retrofit ones that screw into the old casement, it really depends on your plans and existing setup) and spec out the glass, gas fill, grille configuration if any, screens, safety locking devices, size, nail flange and siding channel options, etc etc. Put the full order together and get a quote, if it's over a certain amount have them submit it to the bidroom (I'm sure Lowe's has an equivalent.). You'll get at least 15% off probably. Ask if they have any big sales coming up, every month or two they'll run a special on windows where you get a decent discount just for buying then instead of when you planned to.

If you want to do it on the installment plan, just pull a permit and ask how long it is valid for, I can't remember how long mine are good for but my town has never given me grief over it. Then just buy em as you can afford them and install a few every time they show up (takes a few weeks for custom sizes.) I spread my 14 windows over something like 5 years. If you're careful you can plan your window purchases in small enough chunks to be wallet friendly but big enough to be able to go through the bidroom for a discount. IIRC the cutoff is 1500 bucks an order but I'm not really certain of that.

The only thing that might be a hangup is I have no idea how your existing windows are put together - you might be able to retrofit easily or you might not. Take detailed pics open and closed of the jambs and sashes along with measurements and bring them with you, hopefully they can find an easy way.

E: yeah it's 1500 minimum. https://www.homedepot.com/c/Pro_VolumePricing

E2: oh yeah DO NOT TAKE YOUR OLD WINDOWS OUT TILL YOU GET THE NEW ONES HOME AND READY TO INSTALL, SITTING NEXT TO THE PLACE THEY GO. It's stupid easy to break them loading or unloading if you're clumsy, though I've been lucky, it's been close a few times, like I nearly fell down a ladder with a 40x69 window on top of me in 2018. And very carefully check over your specs before submitting the order, especially regarding grilles if you want any, there's a bug in the software and if you ask for the wrong kind of glass you can't spec grilles at all and they won't show up in the spec list and you might forget you wanted them at all until they show up grille-less. And very carefully check your windows before signing them out at the store because the delivery truckers are dipshits and like to drag them on the nail flanges which sometimes shreds them or snaps them off (probably won't be an issue for you since you can't use nail flange ones) and also gently caress up the screens and screen frames, and once they even managed to break the glass on mine. And once you sign them out, you are SOL because they'll say that was your fault loading them in the parking lot, so... Get out the fine tooth comb.

Anyone know offhand of any old vehicles that people still like tuning, that use 27C64 style (JEDEC standard pinout, 8k x 8 ROM) tune chips, that people would be willing to pay for a socketing service, wirelessly tunable modchip, and android/iphone app for tuning for? I can entertain 27C128 and 27C256 (16k x 8 and 32k x 8) as well within a reasonable hardware budget.

I'm already looking at designing exactly this for a family of vehicles that zero companies offer tuning for right now, but figure I might as well cover any other vehicles that are out there using this stuff while I'm at it, or at least have a list of platforms to add in the future.

e: it looks like B series Honda is 27C512 (could probably support that), D series may be 27C256?

It looks like those use a pair of 32-lead PLCC 1mbit EPROMs. I am not sure how to support those in the way I planned to, but I'll have to think about it now that you brought it up. Those are also substantially larger than I planned to cover, and might require a hardware design change since the approach I was planning to use will cost at least 130 dollars just for the two memory ICs.
