Third Place, 1 point: moths

The blends on both the grime and the plasma coils are just terrific here. Excellent use of OSL techniques, as well as dirtying up the shinguards on this titan. All this on top of a bright, eye-catching color scheme really help sell the scale of this model.

Second Place, 2 points: Galaspar

If we don't somehow get an ongoing series of posts about the grimdark adventures of these surly ruffians, I'm going to be very disappointed. The blends and contrasts work so well with this crew, really bringing out the character and life in these models.

First Place, 3 points: with a rebel yell she QQd

The blends and contrasts here are just top notch; a hell of a way to start this round of contests. The transitions over the smooth and rounded surfaces are so subtle, I almost missed the exceptional line work on surfaces like the wood grain and shield device.

Bonus Point: Zark the Damned

Nailing those blends right out of the gate on the scabbards and plumes, plus those garish color schemes are impossible to ignore.

Zark the Damned: Mar 9, 2013

Oath Completed!

A paladin and initiate of the Shorn Order. This uncommon sect amongst the dwarfs places much emphasis on the honour of the Order above personal honour. Upon completion of their initiation into the ranks, a member of the order will shave off all of their hair. This particular paladin is a member of the monster slayer sub sect, specialising in protecting remote villages from attack from rogue wyverns and the like. This is indicated by the crest they are allowed to wear, and the runic armour adorning their left arm which enhances their strength and allows them to wield a beast bane greatsword, a blade so dense and heavy that a regular dwarf would struggle to lift it, let alone use it in combat. This paladin is accompanied by a fresh initiate who is tasked with witnessing and chronicling their deeds as they learn from them, and most importantly returning this knowledge to the order should the paladin fall in battle.

A halfling merchant and pack mule, appraising the set of treasure chests and deciding which to use to store his profits.

A motley unit of space ork mercenaries, ready for action.

This pair are my opposites for the month. An honourable paladin contrasting against a low life scumbag from the far future. Highly polished cerulean armour versus ill maintained orange plate.

Claiming Backstory for the paladin duo, Get the Crystal for the treasure chests, Take one for the Team for the orks, and of course the challenge for the above.

Gross. I mean that in the most complimentary way possible, of course. These chaos dudes look nasty, grimy, and fleshy, and combined with the grime from the weathered base over the hazard stripes, they're great fun to look at.

Second Place, 2 points: ape!!!

...You set up this sequence intentionally to shock your viewer, didn't you? Well, it worked: your models this month are shockingly good. Excellent use of bright, saturated colors and smooth blending make these weirdos look lively and full of mischief.

First Place, 3 points: Lord Hypnostache

The whole set is top notch, but the daring colors on this squad of warriors is just amazing. Without straying too far outside of the washed-out, desaturated look you have for all your vamps this month, these particular ~~baddies~~ misunderstood antiheroes really draw the eye and show real dynamic action in their poses.

This is some excellent work, you've really brought out the character of these various mutants and weirdos. The woodgrain in particular is very subtle and striking, and contrasted with the somewhat startling flesh tones it really grounds these models.

A quick one for me this month, turns out 15mm figures are quick to paint up (and having a week off work helped!)

The mainstay of the clan, 8 units of warriors (Blades)

A pair of great cannon to ward off foes from afar (Artillery)

The leaders of the clan (Heroes, Clerics)

Putting the heavy in heavy cavalry (seriously these minis are dense as hell) the Ursa Guard are hard hitting shock troops (Knights)

In times of great need the clan will goad the Hill Wyvern into battle (Dragon)

In times of greater need their prayers may be answered by the great ancestor deity himself! (God) - wields the ever burning forge hammer which glows with diving heat which can melt even the sturdiest metals - claiming Feeling the Heat!

Not part of the oath but I whipped up this quick stronghold from some dense foam and some more of the RNEstudio Dwarfs (also magnetised so can be changed later)

Everything together on their magnetic transport tray.
