Scaramouche posted:I know the NHL is paying you guys to bury this story but I will continue to be a thorn in the side of management: https://kencampbell.substack.com/p/why-ron-maclean-didnt-ask-gary-bettman “This wasn't one of those, ‘Ron’s been told certain topics are off limits,’ ” MacLean told Hockey Unfiltered in an emailed response Tuesday. “There were no restrictions. The Chicago story is a vitally important story, but Gary Bettman had answered the key questions to which he can, at this point, speak. There’s an investigation which works as a barrier. In a noisy rink with only five minutes, it just seemed to me the wrong place to attempt an overarching conversation, knowing the investigation would prevent speculation or oversight considerations, or anything really. The for-the-record response was going to remain, ‘Can’t address those questions while there is an investigation.’ So I chose different line for the time being.”

I believe that answer, but I think keeping the topic in the headlines is more important. It's too easy for the team and NHL to ride it out if no one's talking about it. He should have at least asked and gotten the canned response.

lol, it was one million percent communicated to Maclean's bosses that the topic is off limits. Damage-control PR appears to be the sole thing the NHL office does competently, and they're following the smart prescription of "say nothing, make it known to your media partners that it's in their own financial best interests to also say nothing, keep saying nothing until the lawyers can negotiate a settlement that includes a gag order so we can pretend it never happened."

I don’t fault a team for choosing not to answer questions about an incident while an investigation is underway but yeah they should’ve given the canned response. I’m more interested in the leaks that will eventually come and if they name names.

University of Miami on Ohio, where Aldrich went after the Blackhawks, are now acknowledging two accusations against him. Reading the article, one of the players did report what happened to another coach, who of course blamed the player. https://twitter.com/tonyjarnold/status/1413466804677222401

Chicago Tribune has a longer piece detailing the stonewalling by Blackhawks lawyers: https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/blackhawks/ct-chicago-blackhawks-lawsuit-20210715-su43s36blrgyhjzklotbinquby-story.html It reads to me like Illinois state law is loving things up real good.

whatis posted:Chevy made a statement Not knowing that there was sexual assault occurring in your organization isn't exonerating, it's indicative that you and you management brethren created a toxic environment where you were willfully blind to the abuse of the people you were supposed to have responsibility for. This is what happens when you let hockey people run a business. **this was posted by bub spank in the news/views thread, I figured I would cross reference it for posterity. https://twitter.com/rwesthead/status/1418320921992089600 Just more evidence of a rotten culture. But I'm sure Joel Quenneville had no idea this stuff was going on during his practices and in his locker room. Amazing how those other players found about about this private matter which was being handled sensitively by Chicago management. Starsfan fucked around with this message at 22:57 on Jul 22, 2021 |

If I were in charge, I would change the law to state that if you know about someone committing sexual assault on another person, you choose of your own volition not to report it to police, and it can be proven that you knew about it, you are guilty of aiding and abetting not only that sexual assault, but also every subsequent assault the offender commits until they’re caught.

The Dirty Burger posted:https://twitter.com/benpopecst/status/1418325746884431873?s=21 This is so upsetting. Further down it talks about how the victim was subject to years of harassment in practices and team meetings with the endorsement if not participation of the coaching staff. Hopefully that rat Joel Quenneville and his assistants get called to account. The so called leaders on the team too - Toews, Kane, Seabrook, Keith need to answer for this. I'm foolish for hoping anything from the local Edmonton media but they need to confront Duncan Keith about this poo poo.
