HookShot posted:If you count scoring 20 goals a season for 19 seasons in the NHL as mediocre then my dude you need to re-adjust your frame of thinking. He isn't the best at anything, sure besides (until yesterday) scoring powerplay goals, but being a consistent 200-goal guy in the NHL for literal decades is not a small feat and it's not something a mediocre player can do. If his name was Kyle you would have a different opinion.

Both Antti Raanta and Daniil Tarasov have been pulled from CAR/CBJ for unknown reasons. Andersen went in to start the 2nd and Elvis at the start of the 3rd.

quote:“We had this term, the ‘Lars bar,'” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. “Nobody seemed to get over the ‘Lars bar.’ The more and more we thought about it, everything we know about the man and his passion for the game, his work ethic, his attention to detail, his communication skills … we thought he was the best choice for us. -Blew a 3-0 lead in the third against Seattle and somehow won in OT. -Blew a 3-0 lead in regulation against Vancouver. -Blew a 4-0 lead to trail 6-4 against Carolina. The Lars Bar is like a Mars Bar: it's firm until it gets hot, at which point becomes a gooey mess reminiscent of "Hot chocolate, high velocity". Zat posted:I don't think Raanta is much of a mystery after allowing 3 goals on 9 shots in the first. Not that he played too badly but it's a pretty normal reaction by coaches. Losing Logan Brown for nothing is par for the course as a Sens fan, but I legitimately believe the organization does not employ pro scouts because anybody who watches more than a game or 2 of Zack Sanford knows he is worth less than an empty roster spot

You can hang a lot of it on having Backstrom and Oshie out so much, but their setup has too few new wrinkles for how long they've been using it. Blaine is apparently also in charge of Face Offs which the Caps are loving terrible at too which makes me think he is just dead weight being held onto for ??? reasons. I'll take the 5 on 5 scoring any day of course but no reason the powerplay should be anywhere sub 20 percent with the talent the Caps have.

I'm interested in whether JFresh or Micah are still holding onto 'goaltending' being the problem in Seattle. Over the last 20 games SEA have had a positive xGF 4 times. 3 out of 4 of their positive xGF results are 20, 19, and 17 games ago. The Flyers game is the most recent and Seattle lost that one. And it isn't just that Seattle are slightly below coinflips they're posting some really bad results. If teams weren't up to date on Hakstol's deficiencies, they absolutely are now. I continue to shake my head at everyone involved in this. Just an incredible job.

NHL decides to ignore COVID to host the Winter Classic but hey, at least it's outdoors so fans will be safer, right? Who could have guessed that Minnesota would be cold as gently caress in primetime on New Years Day? Due to the utterly unforeseeable circumstances of Minnesota being chilly and the Wild being lovely after playing one game in the prior two weeks, things went well: https://mobile.twitter.com/RussoHockey/status/1477466393985658883 sounds super healthy posted:After a sloppy first period in which they were fortunate to escape tied, the Wild were so bad during a nightmarish five-goal second period that many fans thought it would be wiser to seek refuge in the toastier confines of smelly, soggy restrooms, under heat lamps pressed together in the concourses and, probably, inside surrounding bars drowning their sorrows.

It's just that you can say you were there. It's a neat venue to take two hundred selfies to plaster all over instagram. But of course even that element is cheapened when they have more of them every year. It's fundamentally a TV event.

Playing hockey outdoors in Minnesota in -10 is just called winter and they’ll be outdoors for high school Hockey Day Minnesota on Jan 22 in Mankato. The coldest they’ve done there was -26 in Bemidji. It’s horrible because you’re in a baseball stadium and too far away to see anyway. I can’t believe people are still leaving before the third though with the Wild this season. A number of times they’ve left it really late and it’s been (for lack of a better word) wild.
