Hoping to watch this with my partner, he loosely knows about Alex Jones but I think he needs to fully grasp it. Then I get to tell him that he has fans in Sweden. Thankfully most are put off by his bombastic attitude but the actual sentiments are not region specific. However, you can google translate some of the poo poo he says and it’ll sound part and parcel to certain parties here. In fact that’s the right wing here at its core, google translated talking points from the US with appropriate regionalization.

Everything is bad. The things that are terrible are so obvious. Jordan is the only realistic voice. Keep screaming. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Watching the doc in tiny bits and pieces. It's...incredibly hard to watch. Trying to cheer myself up by thinking about Bankston taking Musk's deposition today.

You can probably get it through another streaming service for a fee (e.g. Amazon often lets you do that eventually), but this might be an occasion where signing up for a trial and then canceling it after watching might be advisable.

I can't stop thinking about Wolfgang Halbig looking dead at the camera and saying "yeah if Sandy Hook actually happened then I'm a monster I guess lmao". Absolutely nightmarish.

If my kid got killed at Sandy Hook and Alex Jones did his stupid little physical comedy bit with the gauze, I probably would have done something that would have gotten me thrown outta court. The cop naming all those victims, and them going "put a bunch of kids in a small room and see how hard it is to miss" are two things I'll never forget.

Just watched the whole thing. Anger and sadness of course, but some thoughts. -I'd never seen Wolfgang Halbig's face. I wasn't ready for that bloated, decaying monster and his self-assured smile. -I wasn't ready for how infuriating that woman whose name I can't remember was. And the fact that she used True Crime podcasts as her reason for wanting to exhume the children makes me all the more ready to distrust that ghoulish media scene. -I can't really bring myself to watch Info Wars or see any of these peoples' faces, and now finally seeing them on video, I recognize so many of the tricks that I've seen abusers use, namely their mugging expressions, manufactured geniality, and fake laughs. -Out of everything, the one moment that truly infuriated me was seeing the video of Scarlet Lewis (who loving rules by the way) giving Alex the water and cough drops. Alex using it as a moment to sneak thoughts into her head then playing the victim when she was escorted away cemented in my mind that Alex among all of the other awful things you can say about him, is an abuser. I know, because that moment was a distillation of my experiences with much of my family, who were avid Infowarriors up until their deaths and to this very day. -I'm tired of hearing, particularly from fellow leftists, that "de-platforming" doesn't do anything and libs should stop trying to de-platform people like Jones. They didn't have to see the kind of damage that people like Jones can cause on a large scale and how it can affect decent people. My only real complaint against this doc is the ending splash screen. ALEX JONES HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY AS OF MARCH 2024 THE DAMAGES AWARDED TO THE FAMILIES REMAINS UNPAID JONES CONTINUES TO BROADCAST ON INFO WARS I know they can't write a book here to end the documentary but I just don't feel like that is enough. Not only does he continue to broadcast but he continues to defame the families (and Judges and Lawyers). Not only are the damages unpaid but he hasn't given them a cent while continuing to take frequent vacations and generally live a lavish life. He's filed for bankruptcy but only as yet another stalling tactic to keep dragging this out even though these kinds of damages aren't dischargeable. Good doc though. I echo everything else y'all have been saying. I thought since I had followed this so closely via the podcast and watching almost every second of the trials I would be able to keep my composure a little better but it's just so gut wrenching every time you hear these people speak about their children. Owen looks like a caveman and I forgot about his weird beard.

If I'm remembering right, Elizabeth Williamson's book also "ended" in a weird place, as she finished writing it before the trials were even set to begin. This documentary is essentially "what if her book waited a bit longer," but in movie form. It covers more-or-less the same ground, but ends the moment the trials ended. Not much new beyond that. Kelly Wyatt was the breakout star of the denialist brigade even in the book. She got more characterization in the book compared to her cameo appearance here, for good or ill. It's baffling that her and Halbig even sat down to be interviewed, but Williamson proved these types just love attention. Her interview Fetzer illustrated that: just off the heels of his own million-dollar default judgment, he recognizes that talking to an NYT reporter is not a good idea on an intellectual level, and then -- mere moments after just saying so with his own mouth -- he goes for it anyway. I wonder how much measurable difference there was between the denialist brigade's Facebook groups and InfoWars broadcasts in terms of effect on direct harassment. One of the biggest revelations for me in the film was that Halbig was essentially minding his in business untill Alex was the one that reached out to him, and that Halbig actually ignored Alex at first but Alex kept calling

I’m 42 min in and had to take a break to feed my boys and get another strrrrrooong drink. I watched the trial as it was going on, and I’ve followed Jones’ career for Christ, ages now. I’ve always been a filthy leftie and the more crunchier elements seemed to have a bit of a taste for Infowars. I thought I hated that man before all this. That “I’ve watched a lot of true crime ergo, dig up the remains of your kids if you’re so sure of yourself “ lady is a contender for Minecraft crimes. Anyway it’s Negroni time for teen witch because what the gently caress, how is this always worse.

Listening to that old episode about the fake outrage from Crowder over the daily wire contract the thing that really stood out to me was that the offer only had 4 weeks of vacation per year. What's the loving point of making all that money for 4 weeks of vacation.

I feel there may be a flawed premise here with the assumption that these lazy shitbags are "working" when they're not on vacation. How many times has Alex drunk-dialed his way in to the show from a beach in Hawaii or some poo poo? Even when he is on air all he does is vamp the usual bullshit, cut to adds for beet juice dick pills, improv some poo poo about how smart he is, read a headline someone prints off for him to be outraged about, then lie about how much research he's done on that headline.

I'm genuinely curious how Alex would react if someone sat him down and forced him to listen to some of his old recordings from 2004/2005 era, where he's basically railing against his current self. I assume he'd find some way to justify it to himself even if he were to confront that, but it'd be fascinating to see how he'd do so regardless.
