Bear Chaser, Goblin Warlord

All goblins in forest know Bear Chaser! He know letters! He fight wolves! He fight spiders! He fight spiderwolves! One time, Bear Chaser fight bear, and that's why Bear Chaser named Bear Chaser. Beast was defeated and running, but Bear Chaser chase bear! Want more fight!

Bear Chaser go off to non-Goblin village now. They have problem. Bear Chaser want solve problem, because Bear Chaser good goblin. Bear Chaser fight like lion for inn-no-sent people. Fight like bear! No need other heroes, because Bear Chaser pretty amazing.

-------

Bear Chaser was born like any other goblin, which is to say that the idea of a 'parent' never really occurred to him. He was there, he ran from the larger, more ferocious animals of the forest, he preyed on the little ones, and sometimes stole from wanderers through the woods when they set up camp for the night. Life was good, by goblin definitions, but Bear Chaser - at the time named Mab - wanted more.

So he snuck into the human village in the dead of night and stole something else. A book. A book on heroes! Mab could see swords and dragons and even not-so-nice looking goblins on the cover, and he was intrigued.

Unfortunately, Mab couldn't read.

Fortunately, Mab taught himself how - sneaking into the village other nights and stealing notes, picture books, even signs. Things with pictures were good, because he could figure out that almost-circle, circle, and angry eyebrows meant cow, because there was a picture of a cow there.

With a lot of ingenuity and hard work, Mab figured out the basics of the language - and then he devoured the book. Almost literally. He was hungry one night, see, and -

Anyway, with stories of heroes swimming in his head, Mab realized two things. First: that there were no goblin heroes in the book he just read. There was a human, and an elf lady, and a drunk dwarf, and even a cowman, but not a goblin. The word goblin was only in there once! When the dwarf killed some.

Mab sat down and had a good thought to himself, and then he realized that the reason humans - and those other things - were so big and so strong was that they had heroes to look up to. And more than that, Mab realized that if goblins had a hero, then they'd get big and strong because they had someone to look up to.

Mab wasn't much bigger or stronger than the average goblin, but he was rather more clever. He could dig some traps for the hungry wolves and then kill them safely, come back covered in their pelts - wolf slayer! He could trap a big bear, too, and then call everyone over while he 'wrestled' with the corpse. He got real worried when the bear tumbled down the hill and he had to roll down after it, but he wound up getting a name out of it! The newly christened Bear was happy with his life.

But the other goblins wanted more heroics, and wolves and bears only seemed impressive for so long, and despite his 'best efforts,' the animals were getting more and more ferocious. It was like the heroes in the book! They fought goblins, they fought orcs, and then they fought a dragon. Bear sat down and had another good think, and realized that the heroes in the book worked together. If he wanted to be a true hero, he needed to lead a band of other heroes! But where could he find other heroes?

That's when he saw a discarded letter from Axe-n'-bow, to some random other city whose name had a lot of Xs in it. And that's when he knew he had a chance to really make a name for himself. Sticking the sharpest metal thing he could find to the end of his club, and making armor out of really hard logs and tiny shiny things, Bear set off to ask - no, demand - his chance to help. After all, he lived in the woods too! And he was strong! Just ask him how he got the name Bear Chaser.
