Bad EXP received

Mercury's bandana gives 23 defense and 15 agility. While it's about halfway there on the grand scale of hats in terms of defense, 15 agility is often much more useful than 15 defense. This will be Eight's buddy for a long, long time.

Next is the wizard's staff with the rune staff.

Since all the rummaging only got my bandana alone finished, we'll have to engage in an advanced tactic, running in circles in front of this guy. Alchemy recipes finish based on steps taken, and a lot of these recipes take a while to finish. They're high-end stuff!

The Staff of Antimagic casts Fizzle when used as an item and has 41 attack. Between giving her a spell she normally lacks, having so much attack, and utilizing her +50 MP trait, it'll be Jessica's friend for a while.

These shields have slight fire/ice damage reductions, but more important is alchemy.

Silver platters are actually your go-to item for getting things silvery.

Oh, right, I spent all my cash on my initial token investment. Magic Waters sell for a fair bit. Between these and selling my outdated gear, I can manage to upgrade everyone's stuff. Pickham has the best gear for the next three dungeons, two of which are actually fairly rough. While upgrading the second we entered, say, Alexandria or Ascantha wasn't important, kitting everyone out here will help for quite a while.

This is a fine upgrade for Angelo for a good chunk of the game, and will be Jessica's best shield for even longer, and is an ingredient for her best shield anyway.

It's Jessica's best armor for the next few hours, and she needs all the defense I can hand her.

It's also her next costume. Believe it or not this is on the low end of fanservice. It actually bothers to give her that sash.

Ugh. Fine. I guess.

After I get Angelo this bow. It's also used in alchemy to get his next bow. Which is used in alchemy to get his next bow. Which is used in alchemy to get his best bow.

The inn and bar share a courtyard.

This is really the inn's only notable trait. Like everything else in Pickham it's kind of labryntine with some mildly useful swag in corners.

Turned into a horse

"Another thing that wretched Dhoulmagis is responsible for! Confound him and confound this curse!"

"Oh! You're back already! that was unduly expedient of you. So, have you found out where Dhoulmagus is?

Suddenly there are horse noises.

Eight and Trode run outside to find...

"...Uh-oh! Guess I shoulda known better."

"Oh, keep yer 'air on, grandad! Whoever it was can't o' gone far... They'll still be in this town somewhere."
"Well we must find them then! Forget everything else! Getting Medea back is all that matters! Well what are you waiting for, Eight!? You heard me didn't you!? we must find the culprit immediately and save my precious daughter!"

The exact details of Yangus's past aren't clear. And he's in his 30s so he's had plenty of time to have one. Was he a good thief?

Begger's Alley is a dead end so there's no real point in paying him.

The real disaster is the cart was stolen with Medea. Hence why I got the important bits of alchemy done. We'll have to go the next dungeon without being able to cook a thing.

Pickham's a bit confusing in layout. Putting the gate at the bottom center of a square, this is the bottom-right, and the watchtower is at the bottom-left, next to the casino. The inn and church are at the opposite end.

Well the criminal is still in town.

There's only one place past the watchtower, too.

Mitts

"He knows 'is stuff, that ol' merchant! He could see 'ow much it was werf. Half-inchin' that 'orse was a piece o' cake! Easy dosh, Mitts, eh! Easy dosh! He he heh!"

Suddenly, he notices we've been glaring at him.

"Who are you calling a monster!? Give my Medea back right now or suffer the consequences!"
"Easy! Take it easy! I swear! I didn't know! I didn't know it was no monster princess or nuffin'! Here... 'ave it all! This is all the dough I got for it, I swear! Just don't 'urt me!"
"What!? You sold my daughter!? That's it! Eight! Slay this worthless wastrel!"

"Y-yeah, that's it... Know 'im, do ya?"
"Right then, 'and over the dough! If I find out you've been tellin' me porkies, you're brown bread, d'you 'ear?"
"Look, I ain't been lyin' mister, I swear! Here... a thousand gold pieces! That's wot he gimme for it!"

The game actually gives you 1,000 gold here. I had honestly forgotten about that.

"He'll give us back the 'orse-princess if we give 'im back the dough... I mean, money."
"Then why are we dallying around here!? We must go to this 'geezer's' shop immediately!"

This bartender teases the back room here if we visit before this point.

"Nah, mate! washed me 'ands of all that. I'm travellin' round wiv the guv'ner 'ere now. But that's not why I'm 'ere. That legless old runt Mitts was in 'ere before sellin' you an 'orse an' cart, weren't 'e? It's just that we need 'em back. They belong to the guv 'ere, see. Mitts only went an' 'alf-inched 'em! I gave 'im the squeeze, an' 'e said 'e sold 'em to you. That's why we're 'ere."
"You 'ad 'em pinched by Mitts!? You!? You must be goin' soft Yangus, gettin' stitched up by someone like 'im! Yeah, 'e was 'ere sellin the 'orse 'n' cart. I gave 'im a good price for 'em."

"You wot!? Who to? We need 'em back, desperate like!"

Didn't we see that name somewhere?

"Sorry Yangus, straight up. Look it's out o' my 'ands now. You'll 'ave to sort it out yerself."

The crew leaves Dodgy Dave's shop.

"It's the last thing I wanna do right now, but we're gonna 'ave to pay 'er a visit."

"Come on, guv! If we wanna 'elp the 'orse-princess, that's where we gotta 'ead. To the south-west!"

There's a Japan-only spin-off game about Yangus's youth, or so I've read. I know absolutely nothing about it beyond that.

Mitts's money lets me buy another pair of iron shields. These two go straight on Yangus and Eight.

That weird dancing man stands in the gate between the entrence and the market. It's easy enough to go around but I feel like paying him for some reason.

You can see Red's abode in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

New area, new mobs.

Well, they are wtiches. Might as well show off the staff of antimagic.

The other places to grab fizzle are 40 points in Courage for Eight, and 6 points into Staves for Angelo. 6 points may not sound like much, but it'd, for example, put the level he gets Falcon Slash from 22 to 24. Anyway, without their magic, witches are stuck with their physical attack and

What are you doing.

...

I'm leaving.
