Bad EXP received

We've got one last thing to do in the Pickham region, at the beach.

Cherub's Arrow is a fun skill. Eventually it'll get upgraded and Angelo's attacks will get strong enough he'll recover double-digit MP each use.

REVENGE

King Kelps can do this, apparently. Khalamari kids aren't threatening in any number, though.

But our actual goal is this specific Khalamari Kid.

You see, it's from one of Morrie's bills.

It's an easy fight, I'm just a little sad that I can't Whack everything.

Anyway, that's 2/3. We're done here.

A quick Zoom to Port Prospect later, and we're on our way to the ship in the wasteland.

That little path to the west would've been blocked before. Probably for the best, as I probably would've attempted to grab a rockbomb shard my first trip here.

Yangus helps out with one weird trick.

And Angelo has noticed that textures aren't cheap. :tinfoil:

Whatever. Here's me bullying early-game encounters with Whack.

Going to the top of this winding path. Or maybe I just want to show off how pretty this game is some more.

Buffalo Wings are our first new baddie. They aren't special beyond the terrible pun.

Let's just put them out of their misery.

Welcome to the Hilltop Hut!

It's got a well, and you know what that means!

...Uh. This is certainly odd.

Eight's first instinct, as is mine, is to try to grab the crown and run.

Suddenly a voice begins talking!

"I'm down here! look! I'm right next to your foot!"

Pull that crown off of me and set me free! You'll have to give it some welly, though! It's stuck fast! No need to be gentle. Just tug at it really hard!

Eight does as instructed until-!

Slime Kings are actually eight slimes combined, so it seems.

Anyway, the Slime Crown is a fair upgrade from Yangus's Stone Hardhat, and is unreasonably rare outside of this free one and used in ultimate equipment alchemy so selling it for 4k gold is not in our best interests.

Anyway, the hut itself is both inn and church.

a pretty cheap in, I might say. But upon sleeping, something odd happens:

Trode is back to work on the Alchemy Pot.

83% of the reason I started this LP was so that I could immortalize this nun's introduction in a screenshot, as it happens once per game and every subsequent conversation has a generic greeting.

Incidentally, a lot of my saves are listed as being at the hilltop hut.

Then we smash the urn.

whew that was a long day!

Is it just me, or does the pot look different?

It does indeed. It's bigger and fancier.

It isn't just cosmetic, though. A host of recipes involve 3 ingredients, including a lot of stuff I could've gotten ASAP.

First, let's stick all three of the basic restorative herbs in the pot.

Then pick up two more plates from the casino.

The Hilltop Hut is a zoom location. With its church and cheap inn right next to each other, it's a very, very convenient spot.

Also, the fenced-in portion lacks encounters while being overworld for alchemy time, like the top of Morrie's place.

Mystifying Mixtures sell for a lot more than it takes to make one, and are the 4th item that follows the weird tripling sale price formula. If you don't have anything better to do with the pot at the moment, it can't hurt to have these going to shore up your funds.

I'm not sure why one plate couldn't do the job. Maybe it's one on each side of the cuirass?

It's hard to see exactly, but it's directly above the guy's head. That's where we're headed.

Pink Pongos are next in line in our new plain physical attacker parade.

God I love Whack.

"did he just die I can't even"

Rockbombs define the wasteland, as they have two moves:

1) do nothing
2) kill your entire party

If it weren't enough, one of their drops is the rockbomb shard. It can be used with a Wizard's Staff to make a Magma Staff, which casts Bang for free. I tend to take way too big risks and use Steal Sickle too much instead of just ending the fight, because I want that drat shard to make that drat staff.

OH BOY OH BOY IT'S

Well it's useful for cheesery.

Muddy Hands are mostly annoying, as they are in big groups and call for even more hands. I think the highest I've ever gotten was about Q or R.

Eight's Swordsingness is improving.

If you let a Rockbomb sit around at low HP, this happens.

Needless to say, it makes your party not be anymore.

...Uh. This is... uh...

A 1/256 drop off of a muddy hand, and why I need to hoard the seeds of strength so much.

So kind of a wash considering the whole "Eight's body was completely destroyed" thing.

Nevermind we're fine again.

Mud Mannequins have 1/16 evasion and use the weird dance to sap MP. Annoying goobers.

Rockbombs are highly resistant to fizzle. Dammit.

And more chests too hyped for the thief's key!

This is available in Simpleton and is still Yangus's strongest club. But since clubs are awful and it's not used in alchemy, this is essentially 1000 gold for free.

At this point, Yangus's shiny new cuirass is ready. At 44 defense it's 19 more than his old armor and the best he's got for hours and hours.

Oh we're finally at the boat.

"Yes... This must be it! The ancient ship we heard about in Pickham. Now we can pick up Dhoulmagus's hateful trail again!"

"If only it wasn't quite so far inland... I know! Show me the map!"

"Unbelievable! We're directly south of the castle! I had no idea we were so close to home."

So our next goal is to go back to where it all began. To see firsthand the curse upon Trodain.

If incidentally we didn't also have something else to do.
