*checks clipboard* Looks like this is a JRPG. Better make the church corrupt!

I wondered why he name-dropped those two specifically. Must be something to do with this cutscene link right here.

Utmost Integrity

We're stopped from rummaging in a holy place by a Templar. Where have I heard that one before...

Suddenly the door swings open!

"You may be Captain of the Templars, but a man of such humble origins as yourself has no place here! Understood, Marcello? Your continued office as guard is in itself a privilege beyond your station."

"As his likely successor, he grants me the occasional special favour."
"...Yes. I am aware of that, High Priest Rolo."
"And you could never have attained such an esteemed position as Abbot at your age, without my recommendation. You'd do well to remember that!"
"Please allow me to deliver a token of my gratitude and devotion to your residence later, High Priest."

"You always did have a soft spot for material wealth, didn't you!? But listen to me, Marcello! The Lord High Priest is a scrupulous man of utmost integrity. He won't be won over with such earthly trinkets!"

"Let that be the end of this matter, then! Come now, let's return."

Oh yeah the party were there this whole time, staring awkwardly at this thinly-veiled collusion.

"Surely someone of so little faith as you wouldn't trouble himself to make the pilgrimage? Come to ask for the Holy One's help? Or perhaps it's just sight-seeing? Hmph! What a carefree existence you enjoy!"

These are "What the gently caress, man?" ellipses.

"...Suit yourself! I'm a busy man. I don't have time to concern myself with you! If you'll excuse me, everyone! Enjoy your little holiday by all means, but I trust you won't forget the other matter of bringing Dhoulmagus to justice!"

With that, Marcello leaves. Nothing about that conversation is required, by the way. The next place we have to go to progress the story is... F2 of the inn in Baccarat, if I recall correctly.

Foreshadowing proper nouns are more exciting when they're pirates too.

Guard tower has the best view of the Goddess statue, I think. That arch at the very bottom-center of the screen is the door through which Marcello and Rolo came. It's a big statue.

There's also this other statue, in the horizon. It's also a very important statue.

But first, Angelo's new skill.

It's much better on single targets, as he'll deal 150%-200% of normal damage. It's also a thing to have with Cherub's Arrow on the side to recover MP.

We're a little dinged up from that fight. That's inexcusable.

What we're fighting here ain't no normal monster arena goober. This... this is one of the Big Ones.

We'll let Memento Morrie take a bit of the heat. By which I mean this is a suicide run.

The Crazed Colossus is incredibly powerful.

Like, ridiculously.

He's also incredibly tough.

Thankfully Snap Case figures out what actually works here.

Before expiring, anyway. RIP Snap Case, beloved box.

How I stalked a statue with an exposed nipple and ended up getting beaten up.

Now that the party's stuck taking hits, it's really rough. Two hits in a row and the target is doomed.

Also inconvenient is how loving high is his defense again!?

Frizzle at least deals decent damage. This and Wind Sickles are having to do all the work here.

Kabuff takes a lot of the edge off. It and Acceleratle are being flung nearly every turn to make sure they don't wear off.

poo poo! If Angelo got hit before all the Kabuffs were applied, he would be Angelow.

On the ground.

Because he'd be dead.

Eventually, and by which I mean a good dozen rounds, the Crazed Colossus finally falls.

This is Talos. Talos does two things. Talos hits the enemy, or Talos hits the enemy harder. Talos does not grow with Eight's levels. Talos does not need to grow. Talos has no tricks, no subterfuge, and no subtlety. Talos beats.

Talos is a top-tier arena monster and a viable choice for S-rank. Talos is good.

Magic Water is kind of a mixed blessing, since they are used to make Yggdrasil Dews and Elfin Elixirs, but are also easy to get from the casino.

This is a fair upgrade for Eight's boomerangs, but not really worth the Wing of Bat in most cases. It's also more expensive, gold-wise, to make it this early. You can buy it soon enough so it's not a big deal.

So I decide to go up a tier in cheeses.

Free agility ring if your casino luck's been awful. Mercury's Bandanna is still a great helmet for Eight, as this is still any point in DQ8.

With that, that's all we have to do at Neos at the moment.

I end up at Port Prospect to buy a Bandanna for this ring and also because it's a convenient spot from which to sail. The magic boat is magical and follows you wherever you zoom.

Now, I'll go to this tiny island one must use the boat to reach. There are a lot of islands like this all over the world.

Remember Bodkin Bowyers? Did you ever wish they had more HP and attack and could poison? Well here you go!

Besides a ton of chests, there's this Goodybag.

Jewelbag is the opposite of Talos. While Talos only attacks and is extremely good, Jewelbag rarely attacks and is extremely bad.

...I don't really get some of these treasure chests. Maybe that's why I don't have any idea what's in most of these, because otherwise I'd just not bother to open a lot of them.

Next tier up in cheeses. Eight's boomerang focus precludes use of this cheese. Don't worry, soon we'll have all the tools we'll need to become Cheese Masters.

And this one some-loving-where in the world is 28!

Jessica's still got the Slime Earrings and these offer a fair bit more defense, so there you go.

I wonder what Trode's talking about, though.

With the Magic Key I can open every overworld chest in the game. I'm cleaning those on the eastern continent up.

Wait Jessica what are you wearing

seriously is this real

Okay come on now this is just ridiculous.

So, having all three of the bunny ears, the bunny suit, and the fishnet stockings equipped changes Jessica's costume. This is now 3, not counting her default appearance.

This is Little Nipper.

There went Little Nipper.

Little Nipper is Not Good, and that's not just the Talos speaking.

There's a chest behind the Monster Arena. It needs the Magic Key. That's why it took so long to open it. Otherwise I would've popped this one open the first time we ran into the place.

The Pelvic Thruster wanders around the hills near Pickham at night. Thrusting, I presume is how he spends the night.

Multishot still lets Eros' Bow's Fuddle trigger, but the next hit just went and cured it.

Oh at this point I put the Scholar's Specs on Jess to hopefully get Frizzle to scale a little sooner, and because I get it Toriyama you like bunny girls does one have to appear in every piece of media you create!?

Salsa is a Redtail Hipster. Since he's on your side, it's the opposite of the normal dynamic with Hipsters. If he spins viciously, you're happy. If he does not spin viciously, you are not happy. Since he's frail and unreliable you're better off with other monsters.

Sometimes not knowing what's in these chests makes them a wonderful surprise. As of the Angelo Seed of Skill Proposition of 2015 this one goes to Angelo as well, bringing him up to 51. He'd normally hit this total at level 25.

12 herbs into 6 strong medicine into 3 special medicine into this. The Greater Panacea restores all HP and cures poison, paralysis, sleep, and fuddle. These are wonderful to have, especially for Yangus and Jessica who normally don't get fullheal or status-removal spells.

Next time I land on this peninsula, which is now getting far too much hype for what's there.
