Update XX: The Xairy Xeller's Master-Stroke

Well it has been awhile. Last time as you probably don't remember (and I don't blame you) we were making our way through Heim Castle. Why? You see it's getting close to the end of the game and there are not a lot of named characters left. So it is about time the game got everyone together in one place. Important things are going to happen in this update so I will give a nice long recap in the next update. Whenever that happens.

It has been about 4-5 months since we last stabbed someone, and all the people we want to kill have gathered in one room. It's really convenient.

Inside, Barbas has been waiting for Martyn to get done repeatedly kicking torturing their former commanders.

Also remember Martyn stole the plot sword, the legendary Brynhilder, from Balxephon. For some reason?

Andoras is here as well.

Brantyn finally gets out off his chair to remind the traitorous Dark Knights that the castle is currently being breached.

Then, to the Hanging Gardens, as discussed.

What do you mean? ...What are you planning!?

We're done taking orders from you!

I'm the regent! How dare you speak to me like that!

Pardon the interruption.

Bah, sooner than I expected!

Two of the Dark Knights immediately crystal out.

The Dark Knights...fleeing?

We've helped you as we said we would.

That is the classiest way I have ever heard some say that.

He leaves Brantyn alone.

No! Barbas!

Wait! I wanted to kill you, too!

Well let's get right into it then.

The fight is as straight forward as it can get. The six terror knights and Brantyn are going to charge forward. The two archers will provide covering fire. While the two mages and clerics do their assigned magic thing. The other two (the ones to the far right and left of Brantyn) we will go over them in a moment.

As for us, we're just going do the usual. In case you don't remember what the usual is, it's having our melee units run forward and hoping they reach the enemy before the archers kill everyone.

We also brought the four Phoraena sisters and the two surviving members of the Bakram Resistance with us this time. It seems thematically appropriate.

Unfortunately, only Sherri and Denam have any words for Brantyn. Actually Catiua does too but as you know we kind messed up that whole situation.

After all I did for you, Sherri... how could you side against me? You will die a traitor!

I, a traitor? You turned on me long before I had the chance.

You still think highly of yourself, I see. A keen eye for fault in anyone but yourself. You abandoned your faith, abandoned the Bakram - it is a wonder the Resistance will even have you.

They trust me because I choose to trust. In my father, my sisters... myself. It is only the weak who cling to power.

You deceive yourself to think so. All men desire power. Few ever come to possess it. Those who do have a duty to use it justly.

Such arrogance... If only I had seen it sooner. I lost all I had for my error. I will not repeat it!

Kneel to me, and together we will rule Valeria!

It is you who should kneel, Brantyn. Throw down your sword and rein in your troops, and your life will be spared. Resist, and we will show no mercy!

But the Dark Knights have left! You saw them! It was they who brought this upon us, not I - Yes, I did their bidding... but I did it to save Valeria. When we lost King Dorgalua, we could no longer hold Lodis at bay - who could!? Had we fought to drive them back, they would have killed us all!

If the people are so dear to you, why did you not inform the king that his daughter was alive? All Valeria would have welcomed the news after the prince's passing... Look at me and tell me you did not seek to use her - as you used my father!

Yes, I sought to use her... and where is the wrong in that? I did what any lowborn man would do. When you lack a silver spoon, you fashion one of steel. You understand. You're like me. Where you carved out your destiny with a sword, I used my wits. But there's little difference, in the end. We both walk toward our future treading upon the backs of others. Deny it, and you only deceive yourself!

Brantyn's gang prepares for their attack.

Before they move let's take a look at those two new units. They're Fusiliers. They use guns and their dumb. Not the class, just these two in particular. The class itself suffers from being a ranged class in a game where the basic archer class reigns supreme. But they have a nice hat.

Our target is behind narrow stairway and six guys with rank 2 Rampart Aura. We're not getting up there anytime soon.

Brantyn gets the first hit in and of course he uses light magic. If Lanselot Tartaros, the evilest man from the evilest land, can use light magic anyone can. Also, ouch that hurt.

Let the usual begin.

Folcurt get's a kill.

The enemy grunts start their attacks.

You know, Folcurt is not doing too bad considering we almost never use him.

Terror knights make for terrible mages.

Like really bad. Except for ours. He's been pretty consistent at landing the status effects. Too bad he is not out here to show them how it is done.

Brantyn is kind of fast, his spells hit like a truck, he's hiding behind a bunch of terror knight, and he is immune to most status effects. But he is not immune to slow. So the plan is to slow him and the terror knights so they never get a turn.

Of course clerics can cure slow. However, the terror knights are still slowed.

Second terror knight goes down, thanks to Hobyrim.

Brantyn's turn is next and I wonder what he will do?

Kill Prowler. That's what he will do.

It's fine. It's not like we need one of our best characters.

We have people like Bayin... who I am actually surprised can survive a hit. I think I have made a mistake.

Oh well. Time to make the best of it. First, we get Prowler back on his feet.

Next, pump some HP into him. Olivya has a lobber equip so she can use items to heal people because cleric continues to be an underwhelming class.

Then, we make our counter attack.

Maybe Bayin will be useful after all.

Despite all that we are making very little progress. The terror knights our doing their job.

At least Arycelle is as solid as ever.

Brantyn drops Prowler again. He will get a turn one of these days. I hope.

The Fusiliers have been moving to the opposite end of the battlefield this entire time. I told you they kind of dumb.

Denam finally gets rid of a third terror knight. Putting a hole in the enemy line.

Allowing Folcurt to press forward and take off over half of Brantyn's HP with one swing (that hits twice) of his sword. The coach finally let Folcurt off the bench and he's got something to prove.

Prowler is back up. Maybe he will be able to get a turn this time.

Now it's time to get rid of the clerics so they don't undo Folcurt's hard work.

Well we tried. Also look a fusilier did something!

Folcurt might have made it through but the rest of our units are still stuck behind the ever weakening terror wall.

Only two left.

Brantyn is getting tired off constantly knocking down Prowler, so he decides to one-shot Olivya. Also something knocked over Bayin, but I'm ok with that. He's old, he needs his rest.

Hobyim and Prowler team up to kill the fifth terror knight. With that the wall is broken and there is nothing holding us back.

Folcurt blocks Brantyn's escape route.

One of the fusilier's tries to stop the inevitable, but it's no use.

Let the catharsis begin.

Denam does the deadly deed.

Farewell, Brantyn. You were a terrible uncle and a worse human being.

Congratulations

Oh, cleric leveled up.

Sometime after Folcurt's MVP celebration we make our way to the war room.

I wonder who those empty chairs are for.

The Dark Knights are our enemy, not the Bakram who follow them. Dispatch a messenger. Inform them of our intent. If we treath them like rebels, we will only push them away.

It will be done, my lord.

We must do likewise with the Resistance, of course. If any of our men make protest or show disrespect to the Bakram, they will be punished.

Go on.

It's... no easy matter. I'm told there's been a good deal of rapine and plunder in the city.

What?

There is worse. Elders beaten, women... defiled.

So are soldiers are rear end in a top hat.

How will you deal with these, my lord?

I am not taking the time to put this up to a vote. gently caress those guys!

They will be punished as they deserve. Good?

Sir.

Today, we begin the long work of peace. We are no longer Walister or Bakram. We are Valerians.

That's it everyone! The war is over. You don't have to go home, if you still have a home, but you can't stay here.

We hereby swear an oath to serve, your loyal retainers unto death.

The Dark Knights have sought refuge in the Hanging Gardens. We travel there to rid ourselves of them for good and all. A great battle awaits us. But beyond it, peace! We must take up the sword once more. For Valeria!

For Valeria!

Next time: :smith:
