Bad EXP received

Nothing more beautiful than watching one of these guys melt.

Ludicrously high experience drop, highest in the game for any single enemy.

Eight picks up his own Tingle from Courage.

Yangus gets his next axe move. x1.3 damage and chance of paralysis, that's good. MP cost of 2, not the worst!

Angelo finally nails level 30. Multiheal recovers over 100 HP to all allies for 10 MP. It's extremely good for patching the party back together. If you leveled for this before Dhoulmagus, well, I don't blame you.

Jessica's getting huge chunks of HP and MP from her levels. This is her first level since Dhoulmagus IIRC.

Oh hell yeah.

This one's staying too! Go for i-

Oh no!

Well shoot!

Parallax also involves launching spooky skulls.

Sexy Beam deals around 70 non-elemental damage to a single enemy with a chance to confuse.

"He never married, and he didn't have any living relatives, so he never had anyone to call a family. That's why he took us in, I guess. Because he was lonely."

I'm not really surprised but I'm still disappointed!

Smackers appear in too-large groups and lick faces like other enemies with this model.

They also know magic barrier because screw you for using magic to make cutting through 7 monsters go by faster.

"Carrie came by here ages ago now. I'd stop wasting my time dawdling here and get going after her if I were you. Ha ha ha."

Cash then runs at a rock really hard.

Hey, a free dragon shield! These are still incredibly good.

Beelzebuzzes know Kerplunk. Beelzebuzzes can show up with Metal King Slimes. If an enemy is revived and killed again, they give up another lump of experience.

Thus, The Dream. It's something everyone wants to happen, but I'm not sure has ever actually happened. All I have are mystical utterances and tall tales.

"Carrie went on ahead and left me behind when I got injured. She's in terrible danger... If you find her and she's in trouble, just forget about the trial. Don't let the monsters harm her..."
"This is probably just some kind of trick. She did put sleeping powder in our food, after all. I can't believe she'd leave someone injured like that, though. She must be in a real panic..."

Hm, some sort of man-made structure. What's in there?

A pair of vicious monsters? And is Carrie in here?

Yeah, here she is, injured and in mortal danger!

If we had went with her, it'd be Cash on death's door here.

Cash tries to play it cool.

"I swear, you've been like this since we were kids. Taking things too far and getting us BOTH in trouble. But I'm in a generous mood today. All you have to do is beg me for help, and I'll bail you out. Just like always."

She just slouches over and remains silent.

"Carrie! Are you listening!? Answer me!

Cash tries to run in there but gets swatted aside for his trouble!

Uh, the wall cracked there, I think he's also in trouble.

Lemme just take a while to gear up, use some recovery items, and...

KASAP
WAR CRY

Since these two deal entirely in physicals, Kabuff is mostly useful.

I mean, besides this part.

Blue Fang mostly just casts Kasap. Red Horn is the real danger here.

They're real open to Sap though.

Between that and the lack of disruptive wave to get rid of Oomph, I can pound out some real damage.

While both are alive, they can perform a combo move.

It deals some reasonably high damage.

Not as much as WHAT THE gently caress

GODDAMMIT

Blue Fang also has War Cry. Whatever.

All that evasive gear I got, like Yangus's Dark Robe, really helps mitigate their damage output.

Eventually Jessica is somehow revived and we stabilized. Besides the Red Horn's crits this fight isn't a big deal. It's just physical attacks, and between Kabuff and evasion boosts, those are easy to handle.

Eventually Red Horn falls. Alone, Blue Fang is a big punching bag.

So big I can play around with Oomphing Angelo and getting real huge MP recovery numbers from Seraph's arrow.

Eventually I break it though.

Getting a Metal King Slime might have colored our perception. This is still a lot of experience.

Eight learns Kasizzle himself. It's not very useful on him.

Angelo stops one point short of Shining Shot. :argh:

He does get a useful passive from fisticuffs.

Anyway Cash is dead. loving RIP.

"But I won't cry. I know you'd laugh if you saw me crying for you."

"Very funny. Spare us the theatrics, Carrie. I only got knocked out, for goodness' sake."
"'Knocked out'!? More like 'playing dead'! I knew it, thought. That's why I provoked you!"
"Oh, you knew it, did you? Well, I was just testing to see if you'd actually feel any sadness at seeing me dead."

"You're right. After all, we've only got each other. I'd be sad to see you go, too. But we're in over our heads here, kiddo. If I hadn't shown up when I did, you'd have been toast!"
"I'm sorry. I just... I really wanted to win this time. You're always ahead of me..."

"What's up with you, Carrie? It isn't like you to give up so easily."
"You saved my life. So I'll let you win this time. But don't expect me to make a habit of it. Look. We're almost at the Doors of Judgement. Watch over my brother, everyone!"

The door's right over there so let's just go there.

They're giant stone doors with knobs glowing so red-hot that the air shimmers and distorts.

"OW! It's as hot as a fire-brand! How am I going to open this!?"
"What's wrong, 'big' brother? That's just from touching it. Don't you think you'll have a little trouble actually getting both doors open by yourself? Especially considering what a wuss you can be over a little paper cut."

Because the auspicious Golding ancestors gave the ol' spicy doorknob, no matter which sibling we pick, they ask for the help of the other, and it all converges here.

"Fine by me, Cash. But is it really fine by you? I mean, if I help you, the fortune's going to be split between the two of us. I'm sure it'll give us plenty to fight over."
"Ah, what have I done...? But I'm a man of my word. Come on. Join me. We'll inherit the fortune together."
"Nobody's forcing you to do this. So no regrets after the fact, okay?"

HOW COULD YOU GIVE YOUR OWN DESCENDANTS THE SPICY DOORKNOB GOLDING?!

They drag the doors open by the spicy doorknobs. They made it sound like the markings would be magical tattoos, but, nope, they're scar tissue from severe burns.

The siblings are confused as to what to do next.

The answer is always to interact with an orb.

Child of my Children's Children

The ghostly image of an ancient sage appears to address the inheritor. Singular. Cash and Carrie are breaking all the rules.

"In so doing, you have completed the trials and proven your worthiness as heir. Now harken to my words. Noble blood courses through your veins."

"For whilst it endures, the world shall remain at peace."

The image disappears.

"The family bloodline ended when father was killed."
"Well, we can't do anything about that now. All we can do is work together to make the casino even more successful. Anyway, we've heard what he had to say. Let's go home. And don't forget, travelers! You're still on the payroll as bodyguards until we get back!"

Conveniently the scene cuts straight back to Baccarat without making me Evac and Zoom.

I hear ya, shady guy.

"Listen up, all of you! As you can see, the contest was a draw! However, an heir has been decided!"
"Both of us are inheriting our father's fortune. Together."

Oh finally! Christ!

The next morning, after resting in the mansion...

"That's good! I'm feeling much better after a night back in my own bed, I can tell you! That labyrinth was a real chore! I'm sure glad to be back to my home comforts! Anyway, it's thanks to you that we made it back okay. We owe you!"
"Yeah, you guys saved our lives. We'd have been toast if it hadn't been for you."
"But you know, going through that together really made us realise just how important we are to each other. We've decided not to fight any more."
"No doubt that promise will last all of five minutes! But I'm sure we'll only fight like, y'know, normal brothers and sisters! Anyway, we want to give you some casino tokens as a reward."

Heck yes! Let's go right now!!

"You know, before we met them, I never imagined things would turn out like this. I mean, both of us inheriting Dad's fortune? Who would have believed that? Looking back, I can't believe how stubborn we were acting about being sole heirs. It's amazing how easily people can change when they put their minds to it."
"Watch it there, big brother. This talk of becoming 'sole heir'... It's freaking me out."

"Now that we're working together, we can make the Golding family more successful than it's ever been. Let the good times roll!"
