Wow, I thought this thread had been locked. NA servers have been back up for a while, but they still seem underpopulated. Big news, though: 0.40 IS OUT. Weapon attachments are in, new UI in the lobby. Past a certain point, lovely irons don't mean anything anymore. Downside is that at high tiers it takes like 90 kills to unlock the first scope, but high tiers have a long grind anyway. Low tiers, you get it at 5, second at 25. I always do low-tier stuff to warm up before doing anything high tier, I've been running an SKS with a red dot, silencer, and laser sight and a SOK-94 with a scope and some stupid "potato grip" that looks like a polymer version of the thing from Fury Road. Also, for people just coming back: The Kiparis is kind of crap now. AKM-level recoil. PP-91 Kedr is the low-tier king now. Pockets are gone, you've got a medicine pocket and an explosive pocket. Rations, energy drinks, and everything are selectable before matches, you can run as many as you want. Items give you bonus size to a particular pocket now. I like to get a ton of medical pockets so I can heal up after every encounter that I take more than 10 or so damage. That way, a lot of the time I run low on ammo the same time as I run low on medkits, and then I just head back to our base and stock back up. I'm looking forward to getting the red dot on the SOCOM-16 and getting my favorite setup from CoD4 back.

Bigger news is that they said they'd start talking about freeplay after 0.40 so at least that's something.

Not gonna lie, the lack of TACTICOOL OPERATOR ATTACHMENTS for all the guns was part of the appeal to me, after playing so many other shooters the low-fi weapons made it stand out more. Totally understand why they were added, though.

Yeah, that's fair. They had added several high tier guns with red dots and/or silencers already, though. It is a distinct change to the game. If some of the iron sights hadn't sucked so much I wouldn't care.

Yeah, if would be cool to have modes without attachments, but the playerbase isn't large enough to support it. Please play this game. I'm lonely.

To anyone who still gives a poo poo about this in any capacity, they've canned the freeplay mode now: https://survarium.com/en/news/survarium-development-plans

SLOW DOWN MAN. I love how defensive that report is, too. "We delivered a non-scaling engine that we had to re-write TWICE! WHEN WILL IT BE ENOUGH FOR YOU PEOPLE?!" Also, by "monthly audience has doubled" do they mean that two more people joined, or are there actually sub-40 min queues for this thing now?

Welp, back to STALKER mods I guess. Hopefully that co-op mod will actually come out some day.

I love how they're so defensive about their decision to focus on pvp. Oh well. We've seen more freeplay from Escape from Tarkov in six months than we've seen from this in four years.

That was shortly after the mod patch, though. Who knows what it's like now. My desktop hasn't worked for a while and even with the new renderer, I don't feel like trying to play on a 14" screen or push 1080 on an Intel 4000.

How dead and stagnant is this game to a North American player that hasn't played in a year? I still have this game installed and this thread bookmarked for some reason.

As an alpha tester for this title, I can safely say it is shaping up to be the sort of game we dreamed Survarium might become. Gruesomely difficult, delightfully realistic (if a bit clunky-feeling still). Also absolutely gorgeous. This is my gunporn game of choice, probably the best thing so far since the last ARMA or Stalker, to compare the two.

Orv posted:So, I actually took a closer look at EfT recently, and apparently it's intended to be a campaign shooter, not some kind of weird session-match DayZ? What's the dealio? So far as I have gathered, there is a persistent character/stash that you build up. The gameplay is a mixture of open world areas - wherein a certain amount of players can wander around, team up, or murder each other. There are two main factions, and a third scavenger faction with no alliances that the players can 'drop in' and play as (basically a hobo with a pistol). Otherwise Scavs are AI controlled. Apart from the open world map, there are several (a dozen or so) 'Raid' areas - big instances where the two teams will enter and fight one another in a three-sided team deathmatch/escape evasion type of deal to gather loot. So far the testing is focused on the scav AI and two of the maps. One is a big factory, and the other is a gigantic mostly-outdoor region near the border/customs. Its shaping up to be a neat little thing, especially so by keeping that third faction in there, so it is less of a A vs B scenario. Your character is persistent - if you are murdered out in the wilds, your body can be looted, except for a small 'locked stash' that is always safe. If you play as a scavenger and manage to 'escape' the raid area alive, you will keep anything you've found for your main character stash. I'm uncertain if you will be able to have a character for both factions at the same time. There's a karma system of some kind being implemented, as there is at the moment nothing stopping you murdering your team and stealing their things - save of course them remembering you did it and never grouping with you again, or just killing you when the raid starts. It feels a lot like ARMA but a bit more accessible. The weapon handling is fantastic. Movement is clunky feeling still - the character is a 'physicalized' entity, including your weapon, so there are literally passageways and openings you cannot strafe through and have to turn to navigate. Your gun cant push 'into' walls - it makes corner peeking annoying at the moment, as you cannot hold the weapon out infront of you without pushing into the wall. You can even shoot/stab yourself in the legs if desired. Basically you're not just a floating refrigerator with a gun in it like most shooters. Everything that you 'see' is there - the bullets actually fire out of the gun barrel - not your forehead. This can be finicky when using the adjustable-height crouching to shoot over things, as your scopes and such are usually a few inches higher than the barrel and you have to account for it. Adjustable height being control + scroll wheel, and your character will smoothly raise and lower themselves in and out of a crouched stance. Its super neat if you are trying to sneak around and peek through crevices, but for the most part standard crouch/prone suffice. Very much a lovechild of Arma and Stalker, would sum this up. Playing against the NPC's right now reminds me a lot of the rainbow six Terrorist Hunt modes. Weapons are thoroughly lethal, too. A pistol will headshot and kill as readily as a rifle. So far it is shaping up really well, but they have not at all aimed low with the concept.
