Behold the Bull of Heaven!
I felt the general thread was enough, but thanks anyway. :)

----

After you finish eating, you approach Whispers-to-the-Grass and thank him. He gives you a shining smile, and simply nods. "I told you this as we met in Moonbroth, Bearded One - my spirits have told me to follow you, and they are the ones who helped me find you when you were lost."

He shrugs as he continues "I do not know why they insist so much on being close to you, but they are very persistent about it, as spirits usually do."

1. "Whispers, tell me..."
((This is another open question, you can ask Whispers about anything you'd like to know.))

"You know, there is something quite strange to me, Yrsa." he says absentmindedly during your conversation "I can not sense if you have a spirit yourself, or not. And yet spirits are attracted to you non the less."

2.Do you ask Whispers to teach you spirit magic?
A. Yes
B. No

2. A Well... Why not, we've learned everything else when given the opportunity! Lhankor Mhy's girlfriend was the spirit of inspiration, so spirits can't all be bad.

"Dreams, Bearded One? Dreams are what you see of the Good Land, of the Perfect World when you close your eyes. Sometimes things come from the Other Side, and sometimes they even talk to us." He sits down in the dirt and starts chewing a piece of dried meat as he continues to talk. "I have seen only a few of these shadowcats your people keep. You do not herd them, and yet you feed and take care of them...it's strange." He shrugs. "Since I have not seen this cat myself, I can not tell you much. It seems to me, though, that this is obviously a spirit who is telling you something."

Behold the Bull of Heaven!

quote:

"How can I repay you and/or your spirits for saving my life?"

Whispers thinks for a while. "Well, I have little need of what your people own, but I will ask a favor of you in the future, as payment."

quote:

"What do your spirits have to say about my god?"

He shakes his head. "Spirits don't know about your gods, they are not familiar to them."

quote:

"What would learning about spirit magic entail?"

He smiles "It will not be easy, Bearded One. You will have to look very deep into yourself, and find your own spirit. Once you do, only then will you be able to see, hear and talk with the spirits of the land and it's inhabitants." He motions towards you. "I see your charm no longer hangs from your neck, something happened to the spirit, I would guess? Your people know not how to properly talk with spirits, you can only use them once they are already bound."

"After you have found your spirit, you will have to learn how to properly address spirits, how to learn what they like and dislike, and how to convince them to be turned into charms. I can teach you that, if you so desire."

quote:

"Do you have any idea who or what might have taken my stuff on Dwarf Hill?"
Whispers shrugs "The dwarfs, maybe? Evil spirits, looters, baboons? There are all kinds of things in Prax with grubby hands."

quote:

What can you tell me about the spirits of prax?

"The spirits of the land are hardy and moody, like all spirits are. They are the spirits of the plants and animals, from the biggest Llama, to the tiniest bush. They are the spirits of rocks and sacred places, and evil sickness."

2.Do you ask Whispers to teach you spirit magic?
A. Yes - 2
B. No - 1

"Whispers, would you teach me of how to find my spirit?" you ask, after a long pause. The elderly shaman gives you a warm smile, stands up and puts his hands on your shoulders. "I will have you as my student, Yrsa Bearded One. Perhaps this is why my spirits wanted me to join you!"

-------------

You go to sleep, and for the next day of your travels, things are going smoothly. As you approach the city of Pavis you start meeting more and more people - Orlanthi, Nomads and Lunars, walking or riding along the Pavis Road, going towards or leaving the city. After the two weeks spent in the quiet of the wastes, with only your fellow travelers as company, you find the hustle and bustle on the road almost deafening.

Ortossi tells you that there is no way of entering the city without having to go through the Lunar guards, you decide there is no point of trying to sneak around, and simply head towards the large gate in front of you. You are surrounded by people and animals of all kind, with soldiers, merchants and beggars all around you.

A dirty looking man, his beard and hair clinging to his head on filthy patches approaches your wagon, and falls on his knees before you. He turns towards Esrolare with pleading eyes. "Oh Earth Mother, please show your generosity! I am a poor and wretched man, for I can no longer stand up right and thus lost my work and wealth! Spare some of your treasures, so that I could buy some food!"

Esrolare and Rostala look at each other for a moment, apparently confused by this man's strange behavior. Lionfish frowns and approaches the man. "Move away from our path, wretch. We have not traveled for so long only to be offended by people like you."

This is quite the predicament. You have never really met beggars before, for even the poorest people in your and neighboring clans had always had something to do, or were taken care of by others.

1. What do you do with the beggar?
A. Tell Rostala to push him out of your path.
B. Give him some of your money.
C. Give him some of your food.
D. Something else?

After you finish with the man, you continue onwards. Lunar soldiers walk past you, giving you curious looks (and Rostala giving them obviously hostile ones), but thankfully none of them stop you. Merchants of all kind try to get your attention, but most of them offer things you don't need or suspect you will find for much cheaper once you are inside. One, however, catches your interested.

You have only read of these creatures in the scrolls you took. You remember they are called Morokanth, and consider themselves one of the Great Tribes of Prax. This one heavily decorated with magic symbols painted on it's fur, as well as various necklaces and charms dangling from it's neck. It is standing upright, and around it there are men and women, with wild and blank looks in their eyes. You shudder, as one of them looks directly at you and you are reminded of the eyes of cows.

The creature sees that you have turned towards it, and immediately approaches you, tradespeak coming from it's weirdly shaped mouth. "Good travelers! I bring you the best and strongest herdmen I own, here to sell them to you for your own use! They are strong and good workers, well trained and don't even even pee when inside huts and tents!" The creature lets this hang in the air for a bit, apparently very proud of what it just said. "So, you want to buy some slaves? They are cheap!"

Whispers-to-the-Grass leans over to you and says quietly in your ear. "Do not buy anything from this foul beast, Bearded One! The Dark Ones are vile and wrong, and these herdmen are probably sick or crippled for them to try and sell them like slaves!"

2. Okay, now what?
A. Immediately continue on your way, trying to ignore this strange and horrible creature!
B. Ask the morokanth some questions. (like what?)
C. Ask if it has any kind of specific slave for sale (what kind are you looking for?)
D. Inspect the herdmen slaves.
E. Option E. (in other words, something else)

Enough distractions, you think. You press on and finally reach the gate. There is a line of people wanting to get in and out, so you get in line where some other wagons are, and dismount from your zebras. Looking up, you see guards with bows and some strange weapon that looks like a sideways bow stand on top of the ramparts, looking down towards the people going in and out. You finally go through the gate, and emerge in a small courtyard. Some Lunars approach you and ask if you have passes. Lionfish, Ortossi and his sons each present a small clay tablet to the guard. He looks them over and hands them back to them, then turns to you in broken Sartarite. "If you new arrivals, you come with me to register. Commander want talk to you first. Leave weapons here."

You talk for a bit with the others, about what you're going to do. Esrolare and Rostala come with you as you follow the soldier, with Ortossi and Lionfish saying they will wait for you in near the wagon until you come back.

The guard leads you to a small shack, built right next to the wall. You all walk inside, where a middle aged man, with a rather bored look on his face stands up and greets you.

"Welcome to Pavis, ladies." he gives you a bow and then shows you a bench on which to sit. He sits down himself and addresses you again. "Now then, I do not believe I've seen you before, so I am assuming you are new to the city. We will need to write down your names and any people you have with you. You will, also, have to agree to some basic rules we have laid down, in order to keep the peace in this town. Now, if you would mind telling me your names, occupations and what your reasons for coming to the city are?"

You gulp down a knot in your throat. While you are thankful he has not required you to sign anything, you are conflicted by your desire to preserve your reasons a secret, and your religious duty to be truthful.

3. How do you answer the official's questions?
A. Truthfully, tell him whatever he wants to know.
B. Lie about your names, but tell him where you're from.
C. Tell him your names, but lie about where you've come from.
D. Lie about everything!
E. What else?

As he finishes writing things down, he looks back to you, clearly examining your weapons and armor. Rostals scowls at him, but it doesn't seem to faze him at all, as he continues. "I don't think I can stress just how much we would like to avoid any violence within the boundaries of the city. As such, no weapons can be worn openly on the streets, unless you are a registered weapon-master, and can prove your status to any guards who will stop you. Be sure that the Lunar Guard are swift in stopping any outlawry or violence, and the people of this city are proud of their ability to maintain the peace. Also, walking on the streets after sundown is forbidden, unless given a permission to do it."

He coughs a bit then stands up from his desk. "I would like you, if you don't mind, to swear an oath to the Red Goddess, praised she be, that you will follow the laws of this town, as I have explained them to you."

4. Do you swear an oath by the Red Goddess?
A. Yes.
B. No, refuse to swear an oath.
C. No, swear an oath to Humakt.
D. No, swear an oath to Orlanth.
E. No, swear an oath to Ernalda.
F. No, swear an oath to Lhankor Mhy.

Regardless of what you do, the man hands you some small, clay tablets with the symbol of the Moon on them, as well as some writing in New Pelorian, that you don't understand.

"Oh, and one last thing - If you could tell me what you business in town is, I will be more than glad to help direct you towards your goal."

5. What do you tell him?
A. "We are heading for the market to buy suplies."
B. "We are looking for the [God/ddess] Temple."
C. "We need to find some lodgings."
D. Something else?
E. Refuse to tell him where you're going.

You leave the shack, and join up with the rest of your party. Leaving the yard you enter into the city proper.

it is cramped, loud and it smells horrible. There are people walking or riding on the streets, which in turn look so packed that you start to wonder how you will get around with this wagon of yours.

Ortossi turns towards you. "It was a pleasure traveling with you, and I wish you the best of luck in whatever endeavors you plan on persuing. We will head over to the Food Market to meet with some of our clan-mates." He turns towards Esrolare and bows. "Earth priestess, my invitation to you and your party still remains. You should visit our clan as soon as possible." You say your goodbyes with Ortossi, and him and his two sons quickly vanish into the mass of people walking around.

Rostalos Pol-Joni also nods to you and Rostala. "It was good to meet Orlanthi who refuse to bow to the Lunars. I will have to go meet up with some people as well, but if you tell me where you will staying, I will be sure to meet up with you again."

You've made it, you have finally reached the city of Pavis.

Now what?

6. Now what? (Pick 3 things and in what order you'd like to do them)
A. Find a way to buy a sword, so you're not unarmed.
B. Find a way to register yourself and Rostala as weaponmasters, so you can carry your weapons.
C. Go to the Lhankor Mhy temple to meet with your fellow priests and report your arrival.
D. Go to the Eranlda temple so you can give them the idol for safe keeping.
E. Go find the Orlanth temple.
F. Meet back with Ortossi to discuss visiting the Garhounds.
G. Go shop around (For what, exactly?)
H. Ask about finding some work, you've spent some money along the way after all.
I. Go to the temple of Pavis
J. Go to the temple of Flintnail.
K. Option K - anything else I might have missed.

((Yes, we did, actually, reach Pavis! From here onwards it's an open sandbox (no pun intended). Where do you guys want to start?))

Hurray, pavis! :woop:

1. D. The law has no stipulation for such things that you know of. Ask lionfish what the proper procedure is.
2. D*. Inspect the herdmen slaves, out of pure curiosity. Buy nothing.
3. E. Lankor Mhy is the secret keeper; he speaks no lies, but does not tell all truths. Speak your name, tell him you are a scribe, and tell him you are seeking shelter and possibly work at the knowledge temple. Speak for no-one else in your party.
4. F. No, however swear an oath by Lhankor Mhy. Moreover, use fancy legalese specify that your oath is only binding for the duration of your stay in new pavis, and that you are agreeing to the letter of the law laid out by the proper authorities, not just the guard's summary of it. Offer this version of the oath to your companions.
5. B. I am looking for the Earth Temple and Knowledge Temple.
6. D, C, A Escort Esrolare to the Eranlda temple so you can give them the idol for safe keeping.

Going maximum lawyer.

Edit: Multiple options for #6, oh my

It's a pleasure to meet all of you. Especially in such a fine settin' as this. Just need us some music an' a brawl an' we'll be set.
1) C: Charity is a virtue.
2) A: The less interaction we have with Morokanth, the better.
3) A: Don't lose the truth again.
4) C: Make an honest and binding oath, but not to their vile goddess.
5) B: We're looking for the temples of Lhankor Mhy and Ernalda, to report our arrival.
6) D, C, & B: Now isn't the time to make waves. The Lunars will be watching us, so we need to follow their laws to the letter until they get bored.

Behold the Bull of Heaven!
Okay folks, some of you already knew about this, but I figure I might as well post it here:

I am closing the game.

Yeah, sorry about that. I don't know if it's a lack of interest, me being bad as a GM or the fact that I started posting slower, but it seems to me that less and less people are following the game, and at this point I might as well just go GM a RPG if I'm going to be leading a game for just 4-5 people. That is not to say that I am not thankful for the few people who did continue to play, since it seems you guys liked it enough, but honestly - With less activity around this thread, I have lost interest in this game, and there is no point in doing something like this if it's not going to be enjoyable for everyone.

So again, I am sorry that this ended up just being another of the endless CYOA games that fire off and never go anywhere, but I might as well just leave it be. If anyone else feels like using this thread or something, go right ahead, otherwise I will just let it collect dust.

At least we managed to get to Pavis, I guess. Probably should have started there in the first place.
