Seriously, this is the best game to get during a steam sale.

Also if you want some less kart-type racing games, Burnout Paradise if you can stomach EA, and Midnight Club LA is a pretty fun single player racing game set on the streets of LA where you're kind of a douchey bro street racer, but it's really fun!

E: I really miss the older burnout games where I'd just race and do takedowns on my friends, are there any current games like that?

criterion (the Burnout devs) have made several Need For Speed games recently that are basically Burnout under a different name.

The new Gran Turismo is pretty good if you're like 'a car person', like if you're the kind of person that legitimately cares about how the suspension on the Porsche line has changed through the years, you should get that. If not just get Mario Kart and Sonic All Stars and have fun with fun racing.

Sci-fi racing games are a dead genre now but they're still way more fun than all these modern present-day ones. Most of them have a lot of depth that belies their appearance, like halfway between arcade and simulation:
- Star Wars Pod Racer
- Star Wars Racer Revenge (PS2-only sequel to Pod Racer)
- Powerslide
- Rollcage 1 & 2
- Carmageddon 1 & 2
- Wipeout
- P.O.D.
- MegaRace

the original GRID owns because you can play it either as an almost-simmish first-person only thing with unforgiving car physics or a third person arcade racer and the game will reward you as you get better at it
