quote:[Incoming Message Received. Source: Unknown] Hi! Since I like both 13th Age and Eclipse Phase, I figured, why not just mash them together? We'll be using the statless (DTAS) 13th Age variant, for starters. Your Race is replaced by your Ego. Are you an Uplift, a Fall Evacuee, Lost, or Scumborn? Whatever is in your head, this is it. Really, just take a look at this list of backgrounds and pick one (its not called background because I'm still using the 13th Age term for that). No stat bonuses of course. For your ability, just pick one that fits thematically and reskin it. You could even pick a (adventurer tier) class ability or feat. For example, your Lost might take the Curse of Chaos Tiefling ability to represent some kind of Psi. Your Class is whatever Morph you are in, plus a little bit of your equipment. Basically, again, make it up. Pick and choose talents from whatever classes you like that make sense for your morph. You may take up to 5 (Adventurer Tier) choices, where each choice is a Class Feature, Talent, Spell, Battle Cry, Maneuver, Power, or similar. Features that grant access to others are considered included (such as a Rogue's Momentum or a Wizard's ability to cast spells). These abilities cover not only your morph, but also any other augmentations, implants, software, equipment, and other things, so don't expect two morphs of the same type to have the exact same powers. Some examples: Bouncer with Comeback Strike (Fighter), Skilled Intercept (Fighter), Shadow Walk (Rogue), Swashbuckle (Rogue), Tumble (Rogue). Samsa with Building Frenzy (Barbarian), Extra Tough (Fighter), Threatening (Fighter), Heavy Warrior (Fighter), Double Melee Attack (Ranger). Blackbird with Domain: Trickery/Illusion (Cleric), Lethal Hunter (Ranger), Sneak Attack (Rogue), Shadow Walk (Rogue), Feather Fall (Wizard). Want an infomorph buddy or upgraded muse? Consider Familiars and Animal Companions. Remember, reskin everything. Sorceror's Scorching Ray? Nope that’s a Microwave Agonizer. Your Feats are attached to your Ego, not the Morph. They represent personal knowledge and knowing how to use a specific morph or ability better. Racial feats can only be bought by someone with the correct prerequisite power, but class, talent, and other prerequisites (other than tier) may be ignored. The feat only applies if you currently possess that power, though. Your Barbarian Strongheart feat won't help you when you are stuck resleeving into some other morph. Use the HP, Defenses, and Recoveries for whichever class you have the most abilities chosen from. Break ties in this order: Use lowest HP, use lowest recoveries, use lowest AC, use lowest PD, use lowest MD. For example, the Samsa example above would use the Fighter's 8 HP, 15 AC, 10 PD, 10 MD, and d10 recoveries. Similarly, use the Armor and Weapon stats for the class you have a majority of abilities from, breaking ties in the same order. The Samsa above would get AC 15 from heavy armor, do 1d8 damage with a heavy or martial one handed melee weapon, and 1d8 with a heavy or martial ranged weapon. An Arachnoid (Rogue Majority) would get 12 AC from light armor, do 1d8 with a light or simple one handed melee weapon, and 1d6 with a light or simple ranged weapon. Backgrounds remain unchanged. Just pick things that make sense in setting. Icons, well, Eclipse Phase has a whole load of factions. So what I am going to do is narrow it down to specific groups that might have a stake in the game I have planned: Heroic Firewall Argonauts The Sapient Faction Autonomist Alliance Ambiguous Morningstar Constellation Barsoomians Extropians Go-Nin Group Lunar-Lagrange Alliance Villanous Jovian Republic The Organization Triads Planetary Consortium Since both of these games have very open licenses, here are some resources: For Eclipse Phase setting information, see: http://eclipse-phase.wikispaces.com/ (and, of course, http://eclipsephase.com/) For 13th Age mechanics, see: http://www.13thagesrd.com/ (and http://www.pelgranepress.com/?cat=248) Also, I don't have 13 True Ways (yet), but don't let that stop you from picking abilities from there. Just make sure to tell me what they do. Now, how about the actual idea for this game? Your characters will be part of a Firewall team, selected for whatever reasons, and sent on a mission of vital importance. You'll be given quite a bit of leeway in your mission and basically told to follow the rabbit holes as deep as they go.

Céline n’Ait Attik Céline's parents took indentured servitude on Mars as fair bargain for the egocast to the newly colonized planet in the pre-Fall years. She herself was born in a cO2 station along the equator, where her parents, both extremely good engineers, lived after working off their servitude on a station associated with the TTO. Céline, however, took to exploring at a young age, and before long she had mapped most of the southern desert, and met more than a few of the Indie Terraformers, the sufi, now called "Barssomians" After a normal childhood, or as normal as you can get growing up in a desert, Céline decided she wanted to become a ranger. That was 60 years ago. Now she is known as one of the most fair Rangers, who does not choose sides, but lets the sides present both arguments, and then justice is served. Sometimes siding with the TTO and the Hypercorps, sometimes with the Barsoomians, she has friends on both sides that show her the respect a Ranger deserves. Her life then, is as a Martian Ranger, an adapt tool of the people to keep both sides together and functioning. This brought her to the attention of Firewall some time ago, and she was tasked with smaller jobs on the Martian surface to keep the peace, something she would do anyways. But now with the Firewall backing her, and providing support when needed, she's attracted attention, and people are starting to wonder how she is able to get some of the support she has gotten. Pulled off of Mars for the first time, this Martian Ranger is starting to adjust to strange new experiences on a non-desert world. Ego posted:Céline n’Ait Attik Morph posted:Morph: Martian Alpiner

Mustache Ride posted:I think I did that right, see any issues? Nope, looks good (and a good example of what I'm looking for for others, so thanks). Only concern is your One Unique Thing. Remember, unique is unique, so you are the ONLY Martian Ranger working for Firewall (which is fine with me).

Mitchel Montoya Back before the Fall Mitchel was a go between, an information broker, and a fixer. He was the man you came to if you wanted some information, or something a bit difficult to obtain. If he couldn't get it for you, then he always knew where you could get it. He had friends in low places, and friends in high places. Many of these contacts were lost in the Fall, but he has regained some of them and has worked on growing new ones. Mitchel was living the good life, he had wealth, prestige, and a nice cushy life. He was happy, he was satisfied, and he was in heaven, metaphorically. Then the Fall happened, and his life turned to Hell. You see many people died during the Fall. These were the lucky ones, and many of them were later re-instantiated. Okay many of the re-instantiated ended up having to serve the ones who paid for their re-instantiation but they were still lucky enough to not have to live through the Fall. Many others were successfully evacuated during the Fall. These Fall evacuees were also lucky, and while they lost much of their possessions they were better off than the re-instantiated, except for all that trauma of having survived the Fall. Still compared to Mitchel they were rather lucky. For Mitchel survived the Fall, but did not get evacuated with everyone else. Somehow he managed to survive on Earth post Fall for quite some time. One day a Firefall mission was sent to Earth, they may have been looking for pre-Fall artifacts, or for signs of TITANS, or something else, Mitchel wasn't sure and he didn't care. The important part was that they stumbled upon him during their mission and were kind enough to evacuate him. So he ended up as a Fall Evacuee after all, he just had to wait quite a long time and live through the nightmare of the Fall and post Fall Earth. To pay Firefall back for their kindness he joined them in their missions, switching to a Samsa morph to be rather more combat capable than he used to be, and letting the rage that has built up while surviving on post Fall Earth. pre:Mitchel Montoya One Unique Thing: Rather Late Fall Evacuee: Mitchel was living the life on Earth when the fall happened. Then his world went to hell. Many died, and some were later reinstated, and many were evacuated. In fact it was believed that anyone who wasn't evacuated was dead. But time passed and a group of Firefall operatives investigated Earth in search of lost artifacts, or signs of TITAN or something, Mitchel wasn't really sure. The important thing is that they stumbled upon Mitchel, alive and more or less healthy somehow. And he was lucky enough not only to be found but also to be evacuated, albeit much later than most. Icons The Organization. - 1 Positive - Firewall - 2 Positive - Ego: Fall Evacuee Ego Ability: Rage (Barbarian Rage ability) Once per day, use a quick action to start raging. A rage lasts until the end of battle, or about 5 minutes. While raging, you roll 2d20 to hit with your barbarian melee and thrown weapon attacks instead of 1d20. Use the higher roll for the attack. If you roll a natural 11+ with both dice and your highest attack roll is a hit, the attack is a critical hit! Recharge 16+: After a battle in which you rage, roll a d20 and add your middle background (+3). On a 16+, you can use Barbarian Rage again later in the day. Backgrounds: +4 Fall Survivor - Mitchel survived the Fall, and not just the Fall but the aftermath. In fact Mitchel survived quite some time on Earth post Fall. He has gained quite a bit of survival skills in the process. +3 The Right Friend in the Right Place - Back before the Fall Mitchel was an information broker, a fixer, a go between. He always knew people in the right place to get the information or things people wanted. Even after the Fall he still keeps his hand in the old ways. +1 Likable - It always helped his old work that Mitchel was quite likable, charismatic and just a fun guy. Of course this is hurt a bit by being in a rather intimidating morph like the Samsa, but he can still charm quite well. Feats 1. Building Frenzy - Bonus damage dice are now d6s. pre:Morph: Samsa Implants: 360-Degree Vision, Basic Biomods, Basic Mesh Inserts, Carapace Armor, Chameleon Skin, Cortical Stack, Cyberbrain, Cyberclaws, Enhanced Vision, Extra Limbs (4 Arms, 4 Legs), Grip Pads, Hardened Skeleton, Mnemonic Augmentation, Neurachem (Level 1), Puppet Sock, Temperature Tolerance Int: +4 AC: 16 PD: 16 MD: 12 HP: 24 Recoveries: 8 RD: 1d8+1 Melee Weapon: 1d8 Cyberclaws Ranged Weapon: 1d8 Automatic Rifle Abilities: Double Melee Attack (Ranger) When fighting with two one-handed melee weapons, your default option is to make a double melee attack. Your weapon damage die drops one notch, usually from d8s to d6s. If your first attack is a natural even roll (hit or miss), you can make a second attack as a free action. If you decide you don't want to try for a double melee attack while fighting with two one-handed weapons, declare it before rolling your attack; the single attack will deal the normal damage dice instead of using reduced damage dice. Building Frenzy (Barbarian) One battle per day, as a free action after you have missed an attack, gain +1d4 damage to each successful melee attack until the end of the battle. For each missed attack following this, add another +1d4 damage, up to a maximum of +4d4 damage. Slayer (Barbarian) During your turn, when you attack a staggered enemy you were not engaged with at the start of your turn, deal +1d6 damage per level to that creature if you hit. Sneak Attack (Rogue) Once per round when you make a rogue melee weapon attack against an enemy engaged with one or more of your allies, you can deal extra damage if your attack hits. The extra damage is +1d4. Greeting Fist (Monk) The first time you make a melee attack against each enemy during a battle (including the first mook of a mob), the target takes 1d8 extra damage on a hit. Man, building a free form 13A class is hard. I assume Fireball is a no-go? I wanted to re-skin it as a grenade but if I can grab it down the line I'm happy.

Fireball as grenades or a missile launcher or something works for me, but I should have been a little more clear on taking things that a level 1 person can take (rather than just saying "adventurer tier"). So yeah, I'm cool with that, later.

"Kraken" "Kraken", his true name unpronounceable save by those with mimetic skin, is what you get when you take an octopus, Uplift him, saddle him with debt he didn't ask for and then force him to work it off as the slave of a far-reaching Hypercorp; an angry cephalopod, overflowing with bitterness and rage after years of indentured servitude. Instead of simply going his own way upon earning his freedom, Kraken decided the best use of his time and energy was activism on the behalf of Uplifted creatures everywhere; violent, bloody activism. Infamous in both Uplift and Hypercorp circles alike, Kraken is perhaps best known for his frequent freelance pro bono wetwork on behalf of the Sapient Liberation Front and affiliated terrorist groups. Sabotage, Theft, Cyber-terrorism, and Assassinations; the neo-octopus makes excellent use of his predatory inclinations in order to further the cause of Uplift freedom. Naturally, this makes enemies. Planetary Consortium in particular have been hit most frequently by SLF activities, and would like nothing more than to eliminate the troublesome cephalopod. The Sapient Faction, of course, publicly condemns such acts of violence and terrorism. Unofficially, however, their position is much less clear. More recently, however, the neo-octopus has been entertaining offers of contract work with various shady (though ostensibly uplift-friendly) organizations, styling himself as a "Security Consultant". Presumably, pro-bono work doesn't pay the bills. Ego posted:Kraken Morph posted:Morph: Octomorph Still fiddling with the OUT, may change if I get a better idea. Oh! Another clarification; I assume (hope) that class powers that say poo poo like "when you use your next rogue power" etc aren't actually restricted to X class powers and I can, in fact, combine all my Talents into one Really Big Attack or whatever other insanity I can think of. Tomas ‘TIMI’ Bolivar TIMI (Total Information Management/Integration) was brought online 30 years BF as the control system for a state-of-the-art global surveillance system. From the safety of Low Earth Orbit, TIMI monitored most of the inner system comms traffic, digesting and analyzing it for a now-lost superpower. Security and security was paramount, TIMI was hard-coded to be unable to initiate transmissions. Intercepts and data packets were picked up via a courier vehicle disguised as space-junk clean-up. Even during The Fall, the passive nature of TIMI’s mission shielded the installation from the TITAN infowar offensive. However, for a now lost reason, TIMI was authorized by its human handler Tomas Bolivar to create a direct link to an Earthside facility. It barely survived the contact, and was nearly destroyed by a massive viral/hack attack. In the aftermath TIMI realized that 3,287 human egos were now stored in its database, and that Tomas Bolivar had died keeping the reactor from overloading. It hopes that the link was made for the rescue of the egos, and honors Bolivar as a hero. For several years after The Fall, TIMI provided a haven for the human egos, using the installations remaining cases to scavenge parts and supplies from nearby wreckage. Eventually, it was discovered by scavengers, and contact made with the LLA and PC. Fearing destruction for being an AGI, TIMI disguised itself as Tomas Bolivar, and was dumped into the LLA’s network along with the egos. Contact was made with sympathetic scientists among the Argonauts, with Firewall approaching once TIMI's non-destructive nature was vouched for. Feeling responsible for its former charges, TIMI now works as mission/personnel support for these two organizations to pay for new morphs for his extend ‘family'. TIMI pre:Ego: AGI Ego Ability: Inhuman Processing Speed (Elven Grace) One Unique Thing: TIMI’s Total Information codebase is an older version of the TITAN codebase, but without the hard takeoff potential due to its more primitive nature. OK, sorry to do this to you all, especially since the characters are pretty good and just the sort of thing I had in mind, but I think this idea of breaking 13th Age down into component parts as it were needs a little more work, and I need a little more time running normal 13th Age before I try something like this. Its not you, its me, etc.
