You are here Imagine that this beautiful scenery is stained with the blood of Space Marine scouts and blue people. You begin this patrol aboard the Storm Warden Thunderhawk "Pride of Sacris". You've just been extracted after a long night patrol, infiltrating the Tau Quarantine Zone to conduct a terror strike against newly arrived reinforcements. Giving them a true welcome to Oertha. Your victims tonight were Gue'vesa, human auxiliaries. It is now first light when your kill team and a Storm Warden tactical squad are extracted from under the nose of Tau anti-air railgun batteries in a nearby valley. Within a few hours you should be back at the mountain fortress that is Watch Station Oertha to download, debrief, and get ready to do it all again. One hour into the flight back, the vox crackles as a message relayed from the Watch Station comes in. "This is HQ to any available units, we have Marines down at Phase Line Delta. Initiate Camerone reports multiple Fire Warrior squads and Crisis suits on site." There is some back and forth as various teams and squads report back with their ETA to the distress. "This is Watch Captain Xavier. Deploying Kill Team Delta and Squad Morgan to extract your scouts Captain Mann." Kill Team Delta thats you all. Sergeant Crixis, Ramius, Codicier Elyas, and Kjallak Icefang. Squad Morgan were the tacticals that were your backup when you went deep into Tau territory to raise hell for those who forsaken the Emperor to join with the alien. Altogether its 14 of you against about a heavy platoon of firewarriors with battlesuit support. And you've already expended quite a bit of ammo during your initial mission. But you are Space Marines and your brothers are dying in the mountains of this Emperor forsaken place. You will not forsake them. You will make do. Ok welcome to the thread. Here's the fuckery I'm going to impose on you immediately. Unless you requisitioned it and its on your character sheet you don't have poo poo special. You are down to half of your ammo load. And yes you brought in a shitton more than normal before you went on this mission. Choose to have 2 Frag/1 Krak or 1 Frag/2 Krak for grenades. You each have one cluster mine and 2 magazines for your bolters/requisition weapons. The tactical marines are in a similar situation as you. You have the benefit of the thunderhawk for close air support which will allow you to deal with the battlesuits and suppress the tau ground forces. I will alleviate your ammunition/lack of special weapon woes if you do one thing for me. Tell me something notable about your earlier night mission to terrorize newly arrived Tau forces and existing tau forces. Each player can include one ranged or melee weapon such as a plasma gun or a power fist or something like that in this "snip" of action I'm asking you to write that you haven't acquired/don't have the ability to acquire. Make it cool and I'm gonna say you have it on you. Also I might remember that maybe you didn't shoot off as many rounds as I said you did. Also your mission objectives. Primary Objective: Extract Scout Squad Kenshen under fire. Primary Objective: Geneseed recovery (if applicable). Secondary Objective: Capture or Kill the Battlesuit team's "Shas’vre": rough translation, Team Leader. Secondary Objective: Minimize Space Marine Casualties Standing Order: Capture Tau whenever feasible for interrogation by the Ordo Xenos. Standing Order: Capture Tau Technology for study by Ordo Xenos whenever feasible. You have till next saturday to get situated, ask all the questions you wanna ask, make any requisitions you didn't make yet, bribe me with a good post for guns/ammo, and plan out how you are gonna save space marine lives. The situation is fluid and intel is fragmentary so keep that in mind. Also please include your FULL character sheets and combat blocks in your initial post. Thank you kindly. Codicier Elyas Previously, on the Achilus Crusade: One of the kill-teams targets during the previous terror mission had been a convoy of the tau's traitorous human auxiliaries. A disappointingly large convoy. It saddened Elyas to see that so many had chosen to turn their backs on the Emperor and the rest of humankind in favour of fraternizing with the blue xenos. They'd slaughtered the convoy slowly and methodically, even managing to use it to lure in more of the xenos themselves. Before they embarked on the mission, Elyas had been studying. He'd come across accounts of an interesting approach to ambushes in the historical texts contained in the Record of Oblivion. Rather than trapping an enemy and charging into a swift but potentially risky assault, the ambushed target was split up, and then picked off one by one without, if successful, ever revealing the ambushers. Records showed the tactic being used to great effect in locations with particularly hostile environments, but it was simple enough to adapt. The gue'vasa convoy, stuck on a road that had been cut off overnight by a small landslide Elyas had triggered with a frag grenade buried in the side of a hill, wasn't too worried. These things happened occasionally, and even those who were initially concerned of an ambush soon relaxed and admitted they were not under attack. Then some of the people started inexplicably going insane. One by one or in small groups, the human traitors turned on their comrades, or pulled the pins off grenades before dropping them at their feet. Elyas pondered that ignorance must truly be bliss. Not a single psyker among them to recognize what was happening. Still lacking an identifiable enemy or a known cause for the sudden bouts of murderous insanity, the rest of the convoy signalled for aid. A squad of battlesuits came to relieve them. Elyas registered a measure of surprise that the tau would dispatch their elite to deal with what from their perspective was an infighting rabble of traitorous xenos. It didn't change the plan. Battlesuit armour was thick, but at that point in the mission the kill-team was still well-stocked on ammunition, and a kraken bolter round can make its way through surprisingly thick armour. They had expected fire warrior troops, not battle suits. It was fortunate that they had had the foresight to bring non-standard ammunition. Skilled troops putting anti-armour bolter rounds into their intended use can make short work of even a squad of xenos in battlesuits. Their arrival did, however, reveal what had caused the unexpectedly heavy response from the tau. The convoy had a lower-ranking ethereal with it, accompanied by a small bodyguard cadre. Presumably the battlesuit cadre had been dispatched to ensure the ethereal's safety from the now very violent human auxiliaries. Their arrival turned out to be what killed him. After the battlesuits inadvertently gave away the ethereal's presence to the kill-team, the tau dignitary was as good as dead. He clearly realised it. Elyas was far from being an expert on the tau, but the facial expression was pretty much universal. He had to admit the xeno recovered from the shock of space marines reasonably well when he drew a large sword from within his robes and challenged Elyas to single combat. He wasn't even half-bad at it. It quickly became clear that the ethereal was physically weak, but also undeniably skilled. Obviously what he had heard of the gracefulness of their honour duels was not exaggeration. Acknowledging that the tau could keep parrying his blows for inconveniently long, Elyas simply let one hand off his staff, allowed the ethereal to smack his blade into his armour, confident that the physically puny xeno wouldn't be able to pierce power armour, drew his sidearm, and shot the surprised-looking ethereal in the chest. The sight of what a conflagration-pattern inferno pistol does to an unarmoured body was the first thing he'd seen break the discipline of a tau cadre. While most of the tau and their human auxiliares were either dead by that time or easy enough to run down on foot, they had to call in the Thunderhawk to hunt down the last fleeing battlesuit. pre:Name: Elyas Demeanour: Sons of Lion, Studious Chapter: Guardians of the Covenant Speciality: Librarian WS:50=45+5 BS:51=41+5+5 S:36 T:41 Ag:40 Int:55=45+5+5 Per:48=43+5 Wil:54=46+3+5 Fel:36 Wounds: 22 Fate: 4 IP: CP: Renown: 30 Skills: Forbidden Lore (Xenos, Adeptus Astartes, Warp, Psykers, Traitor Legions, Inquisition, Daemonology) Ciphers (Chapter Runes) Concealment Common Lore (Deathwatch, Adeptus Astartes, Imperium, War) Dodge Awareness Drive (Ground) Climb Intimidate Literacy Navigate (Surface) Tracking Tactics (Recon and Stealth) Silent Move Scholastic Lore (Codex Astartes) Speak Language (High Gothic, Low Gothic) Psyniscience Deceive Interrogation Invocation Talents: Deathwatch Training Ambidextrous Astartes Weapon Training Bulging Biceps Heightened Senses (Hearing, Sight) Killing Strike Nerves of Steel Quick Draw Resistance (Psychic Powers) Unarmed Master True Grit Infused Knowledge Rival (Inquisition) Talented (Drive Groud Vehicle) Warp Sense Rite of Sanctioning Foresight Traits: Unnatural Strength (x2) Unnatural Toughness (x2) Psy Rating 3 Psychic Powers: Weaken Resolve Avenger Smite Compel Gear: Mark 8 Armour -A Hero's Shame (+5 BS, +5 WS) Bolt Pistol Bolter (Fire Selector) Combat Knife Repair Cement Force Staff Chapter Trapping (Robe of Secrets (FL xenos +3)) XP (Spent): 18000 (18000) Initiate of Secrets -300 Interrogation -200 Rite of Sanctioning -400 Foresight -600 Warp Sense -500 Invocation -400 Simple Intelligence -200 Simple Willpower -200 Simple Perception -200 Forbidden Lore (Inquisition) -400 Forbidden Lore (Psykers) -400 Forbidden Lore (Warp) -400 Compel -1000 Forbidden Lore (Daemonology) -400 Forbidden Lore (Traitor Legions) -400 pre:WS BS S T Ag Int Per WP Fel 50 51 56 41 40 55 48 54 36 Wounds: 22/22 Fate: 4/4 Fatigue Level: 0 SB: 8 TB: 8 Awareness: 68 Dodge: 40 Parry: 60 Concealment: 30 Psyniscience: 48 Invocation: 69 Notable non-standard combat talents: Warp Sense: Psyniscience is a free action (ie becomes a passive always-on sense like sight or hearing) Rite of Sanctioning: can replace any Psychic Phenomena result other than Perils of the Warp with Hoarfrost Armour: Arms 8, Body 10, Head 8*, Legs 8 *Mark 8 Gorget: Hits to the head have a 30% chance of hitting the body instead Weapons: (Currently selected weapons are in BOLD) Weapon Range RoF Damage Pen Clip(size)* Reload Spares* Qualities Astartes Force Staff N/A N/A 1d10+9I 0 N/A N/A N/A Balanced, Force, Counts as G.C. Waci gets a transcribed tome of the Record of Oblivion prior to her char's arrival in the deathwatch. Her char also has the inferno pistol but its ammunition supply is depleted. Failure to get it back to the watch station will have ramifications as if you lost a relic since these weapons are so rare. In the rare event you run into someone that can refill the canister currently loaded you may get to use it for a scene but I doubt it. Everyone in the squad has 2 clips of kraken rounds left over instead of standard rounds. You also have 2 clips of standard ammunition for a backup supply should you run dry.

The las cannon requires a backpack ammo supply, much like the one being used for a heavy bolter. So it's one or the other. The sniper rifle can put out 4d10+4 (drop the lowest) and then a further 1d10 when they fail the impossible toughness test. Average tau TB 3 + 9 armor from the suit = dead aliens. Highest ballistics skill with a sniper rifle? Impossible it's a scout weapon. LordNad fucked around with this message at 18:54 on Jul 22, 2014 |

Kjallak Icefang Previously, on the Achilus Crusade: The ambush was simple, methodical. Scatter the enemy and run them down as a pack. The hunters on Fenris used the same tactics, but then the Fenrisian Wolf was a genuine challenge. By the time they had relaxed and dismissed the possibility that the landslide blocking their path was man-made, Kjallak had already crept up to them, hidden amidst the scrub. As soon as he heard the first explosions and screams, he drew his bolt pistol and began silently killing the traitors, double-tapping each of them in turn as as their erstwhile comrades were distracted by the psyker's trickery. If he had been a mortal man, Kjallak would have been unnerved by the sight of the battlesuits descending upon the convoy, floating down with an unnatural grace as their auspexes scanned for threats. Of course, Kjallak was no mortal man, and so even as Brother Elyas moved to challenge the xenos commander in single combat Kjallak leapt up and, with a roar of "MORKAI TAKE YOU!", sprinted towards the suits. Cutting down any traitors in his path with barely a thought, his mad charge was only stopped when he saw that the APC that had previously been sheltering the xenos leader was moving to gun down Elyas while he was preoccupied. Such an affront to the honour of the duel was intolerable; the alien truly has no shame! And so, Kjallak shifted his fury towards the floating vehicle, and leapt onto the side and clambered up. Scrambling up the front armour, he armed one of his krak grenades as he wrenched open the commander's hatch and dropped it in. The commander looked startled for the brief period of consciousness he had before Kjallak smashed his face in and dropped another grenade in for good measure. Kjallak barely managed to get the hatch shut and get clear before the grenades blew the ammunition stores and jets of plasma shot out from every hatch. quote:Name: Kjallak Icefang In the present Kjallak took a swig of Mjød from a hip flask, and offered it to his battle-brothers. "It's best to show death your contempt before a battle; besides, it'll put hair on your chest!"

You're using a weapon that can fail to kill an Imperial Guardsman in flak armor against a Tau battlesuit. The tau battlesuit gives Unnatural Toughness x2, and the standard battlesuit NPC has 5 TB. Average of 3d10 is 17 damage, 21 with the bonus damage. 21 - 19 = 2. Average 1d10 roll is 5 or 6, but 6 or 7 wounds isn't enough to drop a suit. Even with your stats you assumed, you're looking at 21 - 12, 9 damage, another 5 or 6; 15 isn't enough to put them into crit. Seriously why play a space marine if you're gonna use a dinky little rifle delegated to scouts and humans?

Ramius Previously, on the Achilus Crusade: Ramius watched the battlefield from above, So far everything appeared to be going according to plan. The avalanche had cut off the traitors advance and the grim librarian had obviously succeeded in causing some confusion within the enemies ranks. Ramius knew his role in the overall ambush called on him to stay in reserve to hunt down any of the fleeing human traitors that attempted to retreat back the way they came but he didn't have to like it. Still someone had to be on guard in case the xeno-lovers had any surprises up their sleeve"--contact! Tau Battle Suit team moving up in support from the treeline. Moving in to intercept" he hastily reported into his vox. Quickly he thumbed the afterburner switch on his Jump Pack, moving towards the Tau force. The Tau commander however had made one fatal mistake in his haste to reach the combat zone. He had failed to maintain an adequate watch on the skies. Dropping at speed with his powersword drawn Ramius descended like the wrath of an avenging angel practically cleaving the lead battle-suit in two. In the moment of shock this caused Ramius snarled into his vox "Tau Battle-suits engaged, I'll try to save some for the rest of you." The moment his feet touched the ground Ramius grabbed a grenade from his belt and threw it with great force in the direction of the largest clump of battle-suits. Exploding with a bright flash all the tau suits reeled disoriented and confused. Taking advantage of the confusion Ramius leapt into the middle of the tau force and blades flashing and armour roaring began carving a paean of praise to the Emperor in the blood of the xeno. quote:Name: Ramius code:
Ramius looked up from the cermacrete repairs he was making to the dents the tau had put into his armour. Accepting the flask from the Wolf he took an experimental swig choking slightly he turned to the wolf and asked hoarsely "what do you distill this stuff from, Land Raider Fuel?" LordNad posted:5 TB is a Tau Commander's, not a "standard npc". The weapon has Felling 1 which ignores that unnatural toughness. For each point of damage it's a -5% to make a toughness test or take an additional 1d10 that cannot be reduced by armor or toughness. Statistical likelihood of rolling a righteous fury on 5d10 (1d10 weapon damage, 1d10 tearing, 2d10 accuracy, 1d10 toxic) is 41%. The only way I can fail to confirm a crit is if the gun jams (63 BS + 10 single shot, +10 aim, +10 accurate, +20 shooting an enormous target). pity reply

Sargent Crixis, Raven Guard tactical Marine Previously on Achilus Crusade: Crixis was crouched in the foliage next to the battered dirt road that the convoy was using to move the auxiliaries from place to place. Crixis was reluctantly impressed with the efficiency of the team. Granted, he was also extremely lucky. Instead of getting stuck with a bunch of untramarines and Templar, he was blessed with a Wolf Scout, which while containing the regular insanity of the Space Wolves, he at least had the sense to use some discretion. Plus he had a raptor. A Raptor is basically a fellow Raven Guard, but usually even more grim. With a squad like that, the Codicier could basically do anything short of opening a warp rift and still not ruin a sound tactical plan. Crixis just watches as the convoy mostly moves right past him. Makes not a move when the fire from Storm Warden line rakes the convoy. Does not blink when the Codicier moves into the convoy and kills the Etherial. Makes not a sound as Ramius and Icefang engage the battlesuits. While talented, the team was impatient. Crixis knew that their goal was a terror mission. To sow fear was more than just killing the enemy, it is to make their deaths an example. Nothing causes fear more than piles of ash so radioactive they glow. With that thought in mind Crixis finally makes a slight motion as he pulls the trigger of his balefire gun. Protocol states that the balefire should be used on orks and other xenos with natural regeneration, and are renown for irradiating land for decades to come; great on ork spores, not so great otherwise. A Raven Guard does not follow standard protocol. As the traitors burn to cinders, the radiation scanners in his suit begin to register ambient levels. They were deep in enemy territory. If they would betray the Emperor, they would defile their dead and salt the fields. The radiation should be high enough to prevent the immediate burial of the charred remains. Let them stand testament to what betrayal means. In the present: Crixis is glad his helmet was on, that way Ramius would not see the disappointment on his face when the Raptor accepted the swill from the Space Wolf. Their bodies would likely filter out the alcohol anyway, and if not, no real soldier, and especially a child chapter of the Raven Guard, would risk a mission by intoxication. After making sure that his helmet Pict corder captured that for the post mission debrief, Crixis spoke, "Okay, our plan of attack is simple. We land far away and make our way quickly yet silently to the target location. Along the way we plant some cluster mines. After planted the Storm Wardens engage the Tau and try to pull them back into the mines with a series of withdrawls. Make it look desperate so they smell blood and follow." Crixis begins to do mag checks while continuing speaking, "Meanwhile Squad Delta will flank around and move towards the downed scouts. As Ramius and the Librarian are our strongest close quarters combatants they will break out and flank the Tau engaging the Storm Wardens. Meanwhile Icefang and myself will continue on to the scouts. We will use our stalker weapons to clear out any rear guards and secure the scouts. The thunderhawk shall remain available to both provide fire support as well land to pick up the scouts when needed." Apothecary Kadai "Ironheart" of the Salamanders Kadai throttled up his jump pack and roared after the Librarian, shield flaring to life as he intercepted a few shots. The Xenos didn't intend to honor the duel; clever of them, but it wasn't going to help. "Not on my watch." he roared, as he landed on a heavily armed traitor. Hooking him with his axe, he lifted him up and activated it, before hurling his blazing body at the nearest group of enemies. It was too much for them, and they fled from the axe-wielding, blood covered giant. As the ethereal fell, Kadai leapt back into battle, leaving a flaming trail of terror as he flew. Everywhere they tried to rally, he scattered them, until there were no more. After the battle, Kadai accepted the flask. "It burns. Good." he said, taking a deeper pull. "I think the machine spirits will like it too." he said, handing back the flask and spitting a small libation onto his axe. "Yes." he murmured, watching the flames lick hungrily at the axe. "Yes indeed. Thank you, brother." Kadai grunted assent to the Sergeant's commands, knowing his grim duty. pre:Name: Kadai "Ironheart" Chapter: Salamanders Speciality: Apothecary Ability: Make Toxins Personal Demeanour: Scornful Chapter Demeanour: Sons of the Codex Past Experience: The Burning Walk Chapter Trapping: Wyrm-hide Experience: 18,000 [Rank 2] Characteristics: WS: 57 (42)+5+10(Armor) BS: 39 (39) ST: 51 (39)+2(Trapping)+10(Arm) TO: 50 (45)+5(Chapter) AG: 41 (41) IN: 56 (46)+5(Chapter)+5 PE: 41 (41) WP: 43 (43) FE: 40 (40) Wounds: 23 Fate: 2/2 Insanity: 0 Corruption: 0 Skills: Awareness Ciphers (Chapter Runes, Deathwatch, Inquisition, Xenos Markings) Cleanse and Purify Chem-Use Climb Common Lore (Adeptus Astartes, Deathwatch, Imperial Navy, Imperium, War) Concealment Dodge Forbidden Lore (Xenos) Interrogation Intimidate Literacy Medicae+10 Navigation (Surface) Scholastic Lore (Codex Astartes+10) Silent Move Speak Language (High Gothic, Low Gothic) Tactics (Assault) Tech-Use Tracking Talents Ambidextrous Astartes Weapon Training Autosanguine Bulging Biceps Deathwatch Training Hardy Heightened Senses (Hearing, Sight) Hunter of Xenos Killing Strike Nerves of Steel Polyglot Quick Draw Resistance (Fire, Psychic Powers) [Sprint] True Grit Unarmed Master Unarmed Warrior Traits: Unnatural Strength (x2) Unnatural Toughness (x2) Gear: Power Axe *Promethean's Blessing Astartes Combat Knife Astartes Bolter (w/ Fire Selector) Astartes Bolt Pistol 3x Astartes Frag Grenades 3x Astartes Krak Grenades Blind Grenades EMP Grenades Diagnostor Helmet Astartes Jump Pack Reductor Narthecium Repair Cement Masterwork Bionic Arm Masterwork Bionic Heart Astartes Power Armor (Mark IV "Maximus") 9 AP Body, 8 AP Helmet & Legs, 7 AP Arms +20 to Strength, +15 to Awareness Life Sustainer: Yes; Pain Suppressant Doses: 6 Vox Link: Yes; Magnetised Boot Soles: Yes; Nutrient Recycling: 2 weeks Recoil Suppression: Yes; Manual Dexterity: -10 +1 Fear +15 Fellowship with Space Marines +5 Fellowship with Imperials +10 WS History: Cannibalized Legs: Aquila Greaves Head: Corvus Helm Gauntlets of Xirion +10 WS, +5 Fellowship with people loyal to the Imperium of Man Requision 100/100 15 Diagnosticator Helmet 15 Astartes Jump Pack 20 Power Axe 10 Promethean's Blessing 30 EMP Grenades 10 Blind Grenades Advances: 5900/6000 The Price of Victory [0][Deed] 12500 Autosanguine [500][Apothecary I] 13300 Hammer Blow [800][Chapter] 13500 WS Simple [200] 13700 IN Simple [200] 14100 Chem-Use [400][Apothecary I] 14300 Cipers (Deathwatch) [200][Deathwatch I] 14500 Cipers (Inquisition) [200][Deathwatch I] 14700 Cipers (Xenos Markings) [200][Deathwatch I] 15700 Hunter of Xenos [1000][Deathwatch I] 15900 Interrogation [200][Apothecary I] 16300 Cleanse and Purify [400] [Chapter] 16900 Tech-Use[600][Chapter] 17000 Pilot (Personal) [100][General I][Errata] RANK 2 17500 Polyglot [500][General II] 17900 Medicae+10 [400][Apothecary II] pre:WS BS S T Ag Int Per WP Fel 57 39 51 50 41 56 41 43 40 Wounds: 23/23 Fate: 2/2 Fatigue Level: 0 SB: 8 (9, Right Arm) TB: 8 (9 Body) (10 Right Arm) Awareness: 63 Dodge: 41 Parry: 67 Concealment: 31 Medicae: 66 Chem-Use: 56 Tech-Use: 56 Armour: Arms 7, Body 9, Head 8, Legs 8 FEAR 1 Weapons: (Currently selected weapons are in BOLD) Weapon Range RoF Damage Pen Clip(size)* Reload Spares* Qualities Astartes Power Axe N/A N/A 1d10+8E 7 N/A N/A N/A Power Field, Unbalanced, Flame Astartes Combat Shield N/A N/A 1d5+1 I 0 N/A N/A N/A Balanced, Shield(25/10) Astartes Bolt Pistol 30m S/2/- 1d10+9X 4 14(14) Full 1 clip (S) Tearing Astartes Bolter 100m S/2/4 1d10+9X 4 24K/24K/24S(24) Full 0 Tearing, Fire Selector Astartes Combat Knife N/A N/A 1d10+8R 2 N/A N/A N/A Astartes Krak Grenade 24m S/-/- 3d10+4X 6 Single use N/A 2 Astartes Frag Grenade 24m S/-/- 2d10+2X 1 Single use N/A 1 Blast(4) Astartes EMP Grenade 24m S/-/- 0d0 S 0 Single use N/A 1 Haywire(3) Astartes Blind Grenade 24m S/-/- 0d0 S 0 Single use N/A 1 Smoke(10) *Letter in parentheses denotes ammo type. Kjallak Icefang Kjallak laughs at Raimus' comment. "Almost!" As Sergeant Crixis elaborates on the plan, his expression hardens, nodding along as each element is introduced in turn. "And what of the apothecary? He could support the flanking element, or perhaps he could be kept as a rapid reserve, given his jump pack."

Sargent Crixis Crixis remains staring out the side of the vessel at the passing ground below. "The apothecary will accompany you and I to the scouts, there are likely to be injuries or casualties among them. Once the scouts are secured and stabilized he may break to engage the enemy or aid any among the flank team or Tactical squad that is injured."

Apothecary Kadai "A cunning plan." rumbled the Apothecary, as he gently throttled down his jump pack. "It is embarrassing to feign retreat, but there is wisdom in your words." Rockopolis fucked around with this message at 00:13 on Jul 28, 2014 |

Ramius "A good plan Brother, but are you so sure you can persuade the Stormwardens to retreat? Hopefully they will see reason. But we should prepare a contingency plan in case they prove too stubborn to withdraw" Ramius adds checking the teeth of his chainsword to see if they've received any damage from the Tau viscera the blade is coated with. Sargent Crixis Crixis whips his head around to look at Ramius, making sure that his helmet vox is set to the private Deathwatch channel, "If they know how to follow orders they will make tactical withdraws and lead the enemy into the mines. If they do not, then the only change in plan will be there being additional Storm Warden gene seed to recover. I frankly don't care how they want to engage the Tau, all that is important is that they make the proper distraction and draw the bulk of the tau off the scouts. If they wish to be stupid and die in the face of overwhelming odds, it will not trouble my rest." The Raven Guard turns his attention to outside the Thunderhawk.

Codicier Elyas Elyas looks at Ramius for a moment, and suppresses a chuckle when Crixis gets audibly annoyed at the thought of the Storm Wardens not following his plan. He lets the tactical sergeant finish his tirade. "They'll see that the tactics are sound, and if the Storm Wardens agree to a plan, they'll stick by it." By reputation the chapter was extremely unwilling to deviate from a previously agreed upon plan, no matter how the circumstances changed. "I'd be more worried about what to do if the tau do not pursue the feigned retreat. Would you have them continue the feint and us hold back, even if it risked leaving an under-strength kill-team against the entire tau force, or would you rather we engage immediately if it becomes apparent that the tau will not break off from the scouts?"

The Storm Wardens Sergeant, Sergeant MacKinnon, nods when Crixis lays out his plan. A couple of minutes go by as the Thunderhawk flies low and fast, the compartment shaking a bit from time to time as the pilot deftly avoids a tree there, hills there, etc. The Vox explodes in commotion as you are patched into the scouts vox channels. "HQ, Initiate Camerone, Thunderhawk inbound for extraction ETA 15 minutes, can you hold?" "Negative Watch Captain, Negative! We're cut off from our bikes and cannot extract!" Bolter and pulse rifle fire can be clearly heard as well as the missile launcher being fired though you hear more "coming in" then going out. Infact you only hear one missle launcher that sounds like an Astartes weapon. You also hear the comms of the scout marines as they are fighting for their very lives. "MILLY GET THE KRAK MISSLES I'M DOWN TO MY LAST TWO!" "Pinned! Get me some covering fire!" and so and so forth. You all quickly put it aside, stuff like this has been second nature to you all for decades if not centuries. 5 minutes in you hear the call that would make or break a squad. "Check the xenos to the north, check the Xenos to the north!" "2 Squads coming up the hill! Get your photovisors on, photon grenades!" There's more back and forth between the scouts and their sergeant as they do their best to weather the assault. "Get the meltagun on that battlesuit, they got the Sergeant! Focus fire on the lead suit!" The vox cuts out shortly after to the tune of death screams from at least 2 scouts a few seconds apart. The pilot chimes in on the vox. He speaks cold and precisely about the craft's weapon states but considering the hot extraction you had after taking out the ethereal, its unsure how much support the thunderhawk could be. "ETA 10 minutes to last known location of the scouts. Sergeant Crixis, our ammunition stores aboard the Pride of Sacris are depleted significantly. We have at most, enough power to fire the turbolaser twice and our hellstrike missiles are expended. 33% charge availible for the lascannons, heavy bolter reserves are at a similar level. We can provide support on station but your marines will have to move fast, we do not have the ammunition for an extended firefight." Two turbolaser shots, properly used would be a blessing from the Emperor himself and you know the heavy bolters have enough ammunition to suppress an LZ for as long as you'd need to insert and extract. Its doable. Any updates to the tactical plan? Do you try to raise the scouts, etc. Your mission objectives remain unchanged. Oh yeah 10 minutes to drop, you just got enough time to pray to the emperor and take an oath, whats it gonna be guys?

Apothecary Kadai The Apothecary grunted and said "Sounds like they are a great deal more pressed than we had expected." grunted the Apothecary, as he checked the nozzles of his jump pack. "Are we now headed directly for the scouts, Sergeant?"

Sargent Crixis Crixis frowns under the helmet at the latest report, scouts were the future of any chapter, and while a meta-human like an astartes, they lack the experience and equipment of an astartes tactical team. He turns his attention away from the open side of the thunderhawk and addresses everyone, "Yes apothecary, things do seem much more pressed than initially expected. I propose we change the plan to the following: the thunderhawk lands everyone save the Apothecary and the Assault marine a short distance from the combat zone. The Tactical team will move straight to engage the Tau. Meanwhile, the wolf scout, Librarian, and myself, who will be team Delta-Primaris, will move to flanking position. Once we are in position, the Thunderhawk will strafe the Tau with all they have, assuming the tau are not danger-close to the scouts. Once the thunderhawk has either engaged the tau or not, then the assault marine and the apothecary, designation Delta-Secundus, will use their jump packs to descend into both the thick of the combat or aid the scouts. The tacticals will draw away the tau fire, while Delta-primaris hits HVTs and Delta-Secundus ties up the Tau in melee." I say oath of astartes or oath of loyalty. My Cohesion will be 6 without astartes, 8 with it.

Apothecary Kadai "Raven Guard indirectness, still?" he commented. "I respect your skill, but this situation calls for a more direct approach." "Seconds count; we should strafe the Tau at speed and have myself and Ramius jump first; then, offload the rest in support and load the Scouts." he proposed. "Offloading at a distance will take too long, and our Thunderhawk-" he thumped the hull for emphasis, "-will be fired on regardless." "Will we be extracting the Scouts by gunship? The whole force?" he asked, waving his hand to encompass the troop bay. "Who will walk home, and draw the Tau onto our mines?" Don't have my book, will vote on Oath later. Glory is usually good early on, though. Totally need an Ultramarine for 20 Cohesion and broken Squad modes, haha. We're Deathwatch Space Marines. We need to be crazy awesome and aggresive. We should to send the Scouts and Storm Wardens back on the Thunderhawk while we fight our way to the bikes, drop mines, and ride out of a giant explosion! sergeant Crixis An audible chuckle is heard from the Raven Guard, "And i respect your desire to bring the fight to the enemy, but this was not a debate. I know not how your chapter operates, but once in the field, the plans of the sergeant or squad leader are not up to be second guessed, so long as I am leading. If we had more time and Intel I would gladly debate our course of action. But as it stands we have neophytes down there. The enemy may be all over the scout position making an air strike impossible." Crixis places his hand on his belt, "We drop off a short distance away and try to at least draw the heat off them. As for extraction, yes I plan on all of us boarding the thunderhawk. If that is not possible, then we stay behind, shrink away into the background and work out extraction from there. Getting the scouts out is tantamount. As I am sure a salamander would understand."

Apothecary Kadai "Unfortunately, we are neither with our Chapters nor yet on the field." he pointed out, digging in his heels. "I will follow your orders when we are, but I cannot take my ease while more of our brothers fall. To what end do we delay our craft, and send the Storm Wardens marching to and fro? It was a good plan, but the situation is more pressing, and calls for a different plan." Salamanders: Stubborn as hell I like that we've kinda flipped our Chapter stereotypes about stubborn/flexible, though.

Apothecary Kadai There was a long, long pause, tension building, and then the Apothecary waved his hand and said in a tired voice "Nay, nay. Stay thy resignation. I follow your orders." He sagged in his seat, and said, through gritted teeth, "My apologies, brother. You are in command." You know what? For once I'm not going to jump at the chance to be team leader. I'm glad you got that gay poo poo sorted. Now time for an update. With the only contender for leader of the squad stepping down, Sergeant Crixis leads his brothers in prayer. As the thunderhawk screams in low, it pulls up and pops a hover dangerously close the ground, dropping its ramp for mere seconds to allow the Storm Warden tactical squad and Deathwatch team, save for Apothecary Kadai and Ramius who are their assault reserve. The thunderhawk takes off and egresses low to the east as the marines push up. The sound of bolter fire and pulse rifle fire is still being heard as you and the other space marines run up the rocky hill. Once you are about halfway up the hill, you see a battlesuit cresting the hill holding a scout marine by the head, flamer attached to the forearm of the machine. The marines head explodes into a red/pink mist as the battlesuit crushes it within its robotic fingers and then lays down a swath of fire infront of it. First target is a single XV-8 Crisis suit. It may or may not have friends inbound. Its equipped with a plasma rifle and a flamer as its primary weapons. Its also equipped with Vectored Retro-thrusters aka jump jets. Have a map. Orange in the middle the meltagunners in each Storm Warden combat squad. Grey/Purp is the Librarian, Grey/Blue is the wolf scout, Grey/Red is the Raven Guard

sergeant Crixis Before Landing: Crixis smiles under his helmet and places a hand on Kadai's shoulder, "Thank you brother. I am glad you realize I am not the enemy, but the blue tinted xenos down below are. Let us work together to crush them." As they close on their destination, he takes a knee, and bids that each of the others do so, and begins to pray, "We are Astartes, the Sons of the Emperor himself. Each of us can trace our line and ancestry back to the Great Primarchs, who were the Emperor's children, making us his children as well. Regardless of our origin and chapter, we are all his sons. Despite our differences, that one thing unites all of us. Let us show our enemies the true strength of man, the Adeptus Astartes." After Landing: As they crest the hill and see the Battlesuit killing the scout, rage fills Crixis. Such a waste of life and valuable gene seed. This tau would not live. He triggers the mission-wide vox: "Tacticals engage and draw their fire, I shall lead Delta-Pirmarus for the flank."
